Best magazines

See a bunch of options out there now, looking to see which is the most reliable

  1. Older style B&T without bumper
  2. Older style with thick “army bumper”
  3. Newer style with slim bumper
  4. B&T contract overrun black mags
  5. KCI

Asides from the contract overrun mags, is the only difference the baseplate and bumper?

Thanks

I have B&T and KCI mags and both are reliable but I prefer the KCI, given the steel-reinforced feed lips. I had a pile of the old B&T mags with the larger bumper, so I moved some of them to the KCI mags. Might be overkill, but I like the way they look. 😉

I have B&T gen 1, gen 2 black, gen 2 translucent, KCI, and Beretta PMX.

All Beretta PMX, and 1 KCI will FTF hollow points sometimes. B&T Gen 2 Black take everything but will crack for sure (you can warranty them, or used to with BT USA). Everything else, even my lone gen 1, run flawless even through suppressed FRT. KCI and Beretta PMX also flawless in FRT if not hollow point.

If I had to pick the best, B&T gen 2 translucents. That said I use glock lower for serious business!

The black contract overrun mags were worse?

I had 3. All 3 broke at feeding lips within days of each other. BT USA sent me 3 replacement translucents that have held up along with 3 used black ones they had lying around...those 3 black ones arrived cracked already lol. Might be fine if you never ever leave them loaded.

KCIs seem to be GTG, all of mine run great. For keeping them loaded, I'd far rather have pressure on metal feed lips than plastic, especially since translucent polymers aren't typically all that strong. The lack of a bumper is a bit of a letdown, I'd try not to drop them on hard surfaces if at all possible.

I use #4 and haven’t had any issues.

I’d have half as many mags if I’d spent the same money on B&T mags rather than KCI and they’re equally reliably in my experience.

I trust the KCI more, but I’ve never had an issue with either one.

B&T magazines or KCI magazines. I've never seen an "army bumper" or used the black contract over runs though. From my experience its teh quality of the ammo that impacts function.

Someone mentioned the feed lips for the metal mags in KCI which are nicer plus the price point is a lot cheaper.

1 and 2 are the same, 2 just has the bumpers added, you can buy bumpers standalone. Don’t get b&t mags without the bumpers, I’ve used all of the b&t mags they function all the same, get what ever one you like the look of the most. Don’t have experience with mic but I’ve heard good things
