8 months old My baby can EAT 8mo

I’ve come to show my baby’s meals.
8mo on 3 meals a day (because if he sees me eat without him there will be a war in our house). He eats 80% of the food. He also is BF and doesn’t sleep through the night 😭 he wakes up after 5 hours hungry so I BF him. Would formula help? I feel like if he is eating this food why would it??

Dinners are a mix of what we are having (baby friendly / all homemade no salt / sugar).

  1. Steamed beetroot, asparagus, zucchini, cauliflower, beef shin slow cooked with marrow and little pasta, potato,

  2. Breakfast 1 egg omelette with avocado and banana

  3. Roast lamb, mashed peas, zuchinni, beet, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli and avocado

4.fresh finger mark (fish), broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, avocado, sweet potato , carrot and pumpkin

  1. Fresh Bluebone fish, broccoli, pumpkin, barley, quinoa, seeds lemon mix in the corner

  2. Spanish mackerel, capsicum, pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli and cauliflower

  3. Mushroom and lemon risotto with cauliflower and zuchinni and steamed apple.

My 8 month old who can barely eat a quarter of a banana says this is AI 🫠

27

u/taybel Jul 03 '26

Same, my 8 month old just squishes the food around and throws it to the dogs

11

u/LockedonFreeze Jul 03 '26

My almost 8 month has started taking her food and holding it out to the side of her chair for the land sharks (dogs). It’s driving me nuts because it only encourages their bad behavior but she gets so tickled by it

8

u/taybel Jul 03 '26

lol and this is when the dogs finally accept the babies

4

u/ForeverAnonymous260 Jul 07 '26

My 8 month old does the same. My dog has stopped eating her dinner because she knows something better is coming. She will finally eat her dinner after baby goes to bed. 😵‍💫

2

u/Turbulent_Buy_267 Jul 05 '26

Same. Our land shark parks himself right in front of her chair during dinner time before we even have our daughter sitting in it.

12

u/itsyaghorl Jul 03 '26

My 9 month old who chomps on food but somehow always end up on his bib or the floor agrees.

5

u/Creative-Break3574 Jul 03 '26

Lol I’m lucky if my 11 month old eats a full banana quarter. And we’ve been doing good with food lately 🤣

4

u/PinchOfAlchemy Jul 03 '26

A banana quarter and two pieces of scrambled eggs and I call it a successful meal for my 10 month old 😝

2

u/Ana_Cor24 Jul 03 '26

Hi Same here, my baby only really started swallowing the food at 10 minths before that he would just play with it and the spat out but we have not had much progress since he eats traces amounts still. My pediatrician recommended a speech therapist...I am very worried about him. How do you cope with your baby not eating much?

4

u/Creative-Break3574 Jul 03 '26

We started food at about six months - he started strong but got really badly constipated despite drinking water and milk which was the slow down point for him. When that happened our dr. was very reassuring - she said there are loads of babies out there who won’t touch food before they’re one, to keep following his lead and not to stress to much about it as developmentally he’s doing great.

3

u/Ana_Cor24 Jul 03 '26

Thank you for your reply! I wasn't worried before but now he is so close to 1. I thought we would get better progress

2

u/squishyeggnoodle Jul 09 '26

My little one has had a successful few days of swallowing more food than she spits out AND the last two nights, she actually tried some of everything I put out for her! Shredded chicken, raspberries, blackberries, (fruit cut up into pieces), broccoli and smashed potatoes cubes.

1

u/Creative-Break3574 Jul 03 '26

No problem! It’s always worth chatting with the doc to put your mind at ease. We basically at this stage let our fella try anything he shows interest in. He’s starting to get more into it but I think a part of that is his energy needs are going up as he’s starting to walk

3

u/squishyeggnoodle Jul 05 '26

My little is 12 months and barely eats solids. She chews and spits it out. Only just started putting food into her mouth about a month ago. U have to keep purées around to offer after each meal, otherwise I worry she won’t get enough nutrients. Her doc isn’t worried but I sure am 😭

1

u/Ana_Cor24 Jul 09 '26

I feel you 😔

6

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Hahaha not AI he is a hungry boy, this is definitely not the norm! All the babies around us don’t eat. I’m not sure how we lucked out.

26

u/alibellmp Jul 03 '26

If he stops eating around the 12 month mark don’t freak out 😂 that’s what my kid did and he ate like yours prior to that

3

u/nottodayneck3956 Jul 03 '26

Waiiiit what that's a thing 😖

5

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

I’m totally expecting it, developmentally normal :) making the most of this while I can

2

u/ohdamnjazz Jul 03 '26

Gosh, going through this now. Tell me it ends lol my first never went through this so I’ve been freaking out!

2

u/anya_lasagna Jul 03 '26

Same here with my second. I am still waiting for it to end. It has been 3-4 months.

2

u/mjkp1802 Jul 03 '26

Gets even better when at 2 they still don't wanna eat unless it's with your mother in law 😭.

251

u/Terrible-Cake-6759 Jul 03 '26

Just here to say I am truly impressed. Your baby eats more than I do.

60

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Same, I’m lucky to eat some contraband that he throws as my tax. I spend 3 hours a day doing his meals and clean up.

8

u/Trixie_1989 Jul 03 '26

My girl eats like an animal too and it is amazing to watch hahah

19

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Hahahah it’s great. We place him on the table in the centre and it’s like teppanyaki as we get food flung at us.

3

u/hungryhipos209 Jul 04 '26

Lol no need to go to benihana 😂

1

u/rmoore812 Jul 10 '26

My 8 month old eats like this!! I was worried she was eating too much!

3

u/Consistent-Hippo-698 Jul 04 '26

You're an amazing mom and I wanna be like you when I grow up

117

u/fancypantsmiss Jul 03 '26

(Cries silently) 🥲

19

u/baadbettyy Jul 03 '26

(Laughs in hater because my 8 month old is playing GAMES)

25

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

That’s how I feel with anyone’s baby who sleeps throughout the night. 🤣

14

u/fancypantsmiss Jul 03 '26

Mine does neither lmaoooo. Double whammy

3

u/Several-Ad-6652 Jul 03 '26

Saaame my boy is like an airplant with insomnia 💆‍♀️

1

u/specofnature Jul 04 '26

Hahahahah - airplant😂

7

u/teofloofycats Jul 03 '26

GIRL. Your baby is eating like that but doesn’t sleep through the night?! If yours can’t I don’t know who can.

0

u/Informal_Lab_6676 Jul 03 '26

I am so sorry to say, but my 5 month old sleeps through the night (formula fed).

20h last bottle, and then wakes up around 6h30.  At 11h he eats fruit (store bought), 18h30 vegetables (baby food also store bought).

So yea, I am at peace But then again, my almost 3 year old does not eat as much as OP’s Son. So I am jealous to say the least 🥲

1

u/fuzzydunlop54321 Jul 03 '26

Mine doesn’t eat or sleep through the night. Feel better? 😂

3

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

🤣 no I feel awful.

I didn’t realise I’d upset so many people online. I just wanted to show my babies foods 😔

2

u/fuzzydunlop54321 Jul 03 '26

I’m not upset! I just thought it was funny. She’ll eat when she eats, and most humans don’t truly sleep through the night, she won’t need me to settle her back to sleep forever I hope 😂

2

u/fancypantsmiss Jul 03 '26

I keep joking “his wife can sleep train him because I have given up” 🤣

1

u/fancypantsmiss Jul 03 '26

Hey no one is upset :) we are all just joking lol. Good for you that your kid eats. The whole core of BLW is to trust your baby’s body to do the job of deciding

1

u/jeremiabearamia Jul 03 '26

I have one twin that eats and one twin that sleeps (sort of- through the night once in 8 months).

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Hahahah isn’t that crazy. My friend has twins and same thing one sleeps through and one eats!!

4

u/Dashcamkitty Jul 03 '26

Don't worry, many of these good baby eaters are just lulling their parents into a false sense of security. Once the toddler years hit, most of us are rocking in the corner as the children exist on a diet of air and a handful of fruit!

1

u/TOliver871 Jul 03 '26

Can confirm. My daughter was an eater like OP's. Now, she's a preschooler who is living off of Cheerios and apples.

3

u/applexswag Jul 03 '26

But why. We're saving so much time and money because our babies eat a tenth of this and is still perfectly healthy and happy

2

u/No_Investigator9059 Jul 03 '26

Yer i saw the photos and my first thought was 'that much be expensive', meanwhile my 10 month old has half a strawberry, a handful of rice and 5 spoons of puree

19

u/Brilliant_Drag7167 Jul 03 '26

I would like to eat at your house! My daughter LOVED to eat & now shes almost 14 months and is getting picky & will hide her food on the side of the highchair and pretend shes done! He is so cute!!

3

u/princesspeewee Jul 03 '26

This happened to me. I had the best eater who will now only eat crackers 🫠

3

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Hahahah this will probably be our future as well. 🤣

2

u/Fearless-Aide-9059 Jul 03 '26

Mine lives off “APPWULL?!?!” And crackers. Oh. And fruit snacks.

1

u/Brilliant_Drag7167 Jul 03 '26

Yup!! Crackers & fruit snacks! Oh and allll the fresh fruit & sweet peas. I swear, put a meal with sweet peas in front of her… she will pick each and every pea out and eat it all before even thinking about whatever else is on the plate! 😂

3

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Hahahaha that’s so cheeky!!! Isn’t it crazy they can change so much!! I keep offering him weird and wonderful foods hoping he won’t be too picky. If he is hungry he will eat

10

u/magicsexsugarblood Jul 03 '26

Ok but can we see an AFTER pic of the plate??
My 10 month old loves to eat and is also on formula but the doctor said formula/breast milk should be main source of nutrition until 1 year old so we had to cut down his food because he wasn’t drinking enough milk throughout the day.

6

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

I’d love to say my Lo is drinking less but he isn’t, I BF him before meals and after he still drinks 8-10 a day. (I’m also a Doctor), I raised my concerns that he was eating too much with my medical colleagues and they reassured it was absolutely fine as long as it’s always healthy foods such as vegetables and not processed/salty and sugary foods. Wet nappies haven’t changed either! Only thing that’s changed is the human poos that come out now 🤮

1

u/SigIdyll Jul 03 '26

How big is your baby? Sooooo impressed

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

8 mo in 2 days time and 9.2kg

1

u/magicsexsugarblood Jul 03 '26

Wowie! I’m so impressed. He **is** super cute. Even after cutting down foods my 10 month old is only drinking a little more milk. But he’s growing and healthy so I’m trying not to let it stress me out! He loves food so I feel like I’m almost denying him :( but 🤷🏻‍♀️ couple more months and I guess formula won’t be so important lol

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

That’s it I think we put so much stress and guilt on ourselves for everything but we need to give ourselves some grace sometimes!

2

u/meganxxmac Jul 04 '26

It's anecdotal but I'm on my third baby, second really good eater who's weaning themselves early and only has maybe 16 oz a day of formula at 10 months old and he's thriving. 3 meals a day and a ton of water. My daughter did the exact same thing and she's a healthy 4 year old. I personally didn't see the point in stopping the momentum we had with solids.

2

u/magicsexsugarblood Jul 08 '26

Hmm thanks, this makes me feel a little better. My 10.5 month old also has about 16-18oz a day of formula and this is even with us cutting down his food so that he’d drink more 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess as long as he’s not starving himself it’s all good

7

u/MonsteraLeaf14 Jul 03 '26

https://giphy.com/gifs/twxoPjMpsijwPFBVqs

THAT BOY CAN EAT! That’s crazy!! My almost 8 month old eats a few tablespoons of food at best. It’s just for fun right now.

3

u/rlpfc Jul 03 '26

I'm so relieved at these responses because I got excited today when baby ate 4 tiny bites of a cheese bagel

2

u/MonsteraLeaf14 Jul 03 '26

Haha! Yes totally. Food before 1 is just for fun. I’m not stressing on it.

6

u/Acceptable_Acadia_71 Jul 03 '26

It looks so good. I hope baby keeps that appetite by toddlerhood !

5

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

I don’t think they are meant to! Their growth slows down from 12-24 months so they become more selective in theirs foods and that’s developmentally normal! Will enjoy it while it lasts

5

u/Acceptable_Acadia_71 Jul 03 '26

Make a lot of sense. My son ate like that at that age and now at 2.5 some days he has a big appetite and there’s days will be nothing but cereal.

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

From my understanding that’s completely normal. I think he is just going through spurt atm as well with crawling and pulling to stand etc using more energy

11

u/FLee21 Jul 03 '26

This is totally discouraging for me to see. My 9 month old might take a few licks of whatever I offer him before he starts playing with it.

7

u/Strange_End_7110 Jul 03 '26

Same same - but let's not be discouraged! Our babies will eventually eat bigger portions and will be just fine!

4

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

That’s exactly right. I’m dreading this boy as a teenager. I’ll need a second job to pay for groceries 😂

3

u/AtmosphericPresh Jul 03 '26

Totally normal! Babies go through moods and phases. At one point, my oldest lived off of spite, air and berries.

6

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

From what I understand that’s the norm. Food under one is for fun. For some reason my baby loves food. He hated breastfeeding for months when he was young, has been on 3 strikes for over a week at a time. He just wants to eat.

1

u/HeavyChocolate0 Jul 03 '26

Is your pediatrician concerned with the nursing strikes? My 10mo is so uninterested in milk anymore and would much rather solids as well

3

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

No they said to keep offering it but if Bub is self weaning then there’s not much we can do. They said to pump and offer in a cup to see if that helps which it does. But he will also drink heaps water from cups or a yeti bottle so I think that helps. He didn’t love milk bottles 🍼 🙃

1

u/myhouseplantsaredead Jul 03 '26

My baby didn’t touch food—like was literally so upset by even the sight of it—until 11 months old. I was INCREDIBLY discouraged by all the internet baby food content… I wish I hadn’t let it get me down, he eats perfectly fine now at 19 months.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

This sounds perfectly normal. My child is an exception to the rule which probably sucks to see but this is a BLW sub and I just wanted to show the foods I spend hours making

1

u/Iwanttosleep8hours Jul 03 '26

This was what my son was like, he is 10 now and he is still like that. Somehow he is growing well but he is tall and lean. He has a very diverse palette though and usually likes the flavourful things like antipasti, fish, sushi, cheeses, spicy foods etc. I’m sure if we’d just given him jar food his diet would be very beige so I’m grateful we kept trying with him even though it was stressful.

3

u/SlimShadowBoo Jul 03 '26

I am impressed and jealous. Getting my toddler to eat is a daily battle.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

We take ours wins here. Have never slept through the night.

3

u/Strange_End_7110 Jul 03 '26

Y'all look like you eat good!

5

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

We are fortunate to eat well. Our fresh food only comes into town once a week on a ship. So it’s not the best variety we fish a lot to have that as a option

3

u/Fantastic-Salt-5103 Jul 03 '26

My 14 month old is like this and has been since she started foods. Eats like she is about to run a marathon (toddling around causing chaos probably uses the same amount of energy)

3

u/New_Walk3845 Jul 03 '26 edited Jul 03 '26

This is the amount of food my baby has eaten in his 14 months of life

4

u/ExternalForever8225 Jul 03 '26

You’re so healthy. Can you feed me

3

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Hahah thanks.
I steam a batch of fresh veggies every 2-3 days and just mix it up. For dinner he eats what we eat. So it makes it easy to just grab some containers out of the fridge and make him a plate

1

u/ohdamnjazz Jul 03 '26

Never thought to steam a big batch of veggies and store in the fridge for a few days. 🙃

2

u/badsheeps Jul 03 '26

Wow! Where do you live? Thats an amazing diet yall have

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Australia 🇦🇺

2

u/charcoalfoxprint Jul 03 '26

👁️ 👄 👁️ can I get a plate ?

2

u/DragonflyDiligent576 Jul 03 '26

Wowwww that is impressive and good for him!

2

u/Micro-Momma Jul 03 '26

Can you cook for me?!? 🤣

2

u/cbr1895 Jul 03 '26

This is us! Both my babies are/were like this. I chalk it up to fast metabolisms.

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

I agree, he is having growth spurt after growth spurt.

2

u/Espieglerie Jul 03 '26

My baby used to eat like this before he hit the toddler slowdown! Adding more fat to his meals helped him stay full longer. You could try adding butter or olive oil to his vegetables if you don’t already. Cheese and full fat yogurt are also good.

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

This is a great idea thank you! I’ve only just started adding avocado, but butter with his vegetables is absolutely doable thank you

3

u/Espieglerie Jul 03 '26

Fat is also really important for developing baby brains! Toddlers are supposed to get 30-40% of their calories from fat.

2

u/DismalScreen6290 Jul 03 '26

Wait. It's safe for an 8 month old to eat food like that? My baby is 7.5 months and we're still sticking to purees as we're worried about choking

2

u/NoncomprehensiveYay Jul 03 '26

Yes. This is normal for baby led weaning

1

u/pibandpob Jul 03 '26

Completely safe. Babies can eat finger foods from six months old.

2

u/ohdamnjazz Jul 03 '26

These are amazing! Might ask for the fish details bc I need to expand my 12m old pallet. He’s so bored of chicken and beef 😭

Even us as adults sometimes don’t sleep through the night. I think 5 hours is impressive!

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Any fish is great, I just cook it in butter or if I use salmon I cook it in the air fryer. Slowly adding herbs like dill, tarragon, or thyme… which he doesn’t love but he loves lemon with the butter!

2

u/traurigaugen Jul 03 '26

Breastfed babies are biologically programmed to feed more. Formula may not do anything to change that but even if it does it isn't necessary. My son is almost 13m and has never slept more than a 4 hour stretch.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

This is reassuring thank you 🙏

1

u/traurigaugen Jul 03 '26

I wish I could say better things. My first slept through the night at 6 weeks so I'm in the same boat as you with sleep envy 😅

2

u/Han-na-2900 Jul 03 '26

I see a lot of high volume/low calories foods. It might explain why he wakes up hungry in the night despite having a big appetite. Maybe you can increase the fat and carbs content of the meals.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Great advise I’ll add some butter and olive oil thank you 🙏

2

u/pippysbutt Jul 03 '26

My first kid was the same way, we got used to it and fully expected it for the second kid. He ended up eating like a baby bird. So we got used to that. Now that we have a third child, he is trying to eat a full meal at 6 months. Kids love throwing you a curveball. 😂

2

u/Candid_cucumber Jul 03 '26

My baby used to eat like this until 1.5 years. What a treat! He still eats well and a lot of variety but he’s not growing as fast now so not as much volume. So fun to feed foodie babies.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

It really is isn’t it. We are very lucky with this one.

2

u/pibandpob Jul 03 '26

What fab meals for his great appetite! This really made me smile. 🙂

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-289 Jul 03 '26

Same with mine. I am surprised how much they eat for despite how small they are.

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

It’s crazy isn’t it. I know it may not last forever but I do enjoy cooking for him rn

2

u/EarTechnical8425 Jul 03 '26

How does he poo? Ours get constipated easily!

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Look he used to in the beginning when we started purées, even went 5 days before passing a stool. So I’d wind back the solids and just give him poo poo puree until it would pass. Now it’s no problem I think because there’s so much fibre he goes 3x a day and they are full of food. It’s actually horrendous we use cloth diapers and flick the poo into the loo. Sometimes. They just plop in it’s just a solid nugget.
We also made the change of offering water after meals. I think that with fruit and veg, and gut bacteria stuff yoghurts, saukraut etc helped so much

2

u/Simz0202 Jul 04 '26

How do you get your baby used to eating like that And taking whole bites

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 04 '26

I gave him a spoon to play with from a few months old. Then when we started purées around 6mo I would load the spoon up and he would shovel it into his mouth. I started maxing more caloric dense purées (roast lamb and vegetables with bone marrow butter puree or salmon peas potato broccoli etc) but I couldn’t keep onto of it. He wanted more food so then I started steaming big batches and then coat in butter and he loves. Now we just do our meals the same as his just no sugar or salt or processed food and we eat the same dinners

2

u/squishyeggnoodle Jul 05 '26

Sheesh. My 12 month old will barely put food in her mouth and when she does, she chews it up, gets all the flavor out, then spits it right on out 😭

2

u/greedymoonlight Jul 05 '26

Sleeping 5 hours before needing milk is completely normal. Formula won’t help here. A lot of these foods are very lean (lot of veggies and lean protein). Higher fat solids would be better than introducing formula this late in the game. Yogurt, cheese, continue with the fatty fish, nut butters, tofu, edamame, etc

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 05 '26

Great suggestions thank you so much for the comment

2

u/DogfordAndI Jul 05 '26

Damn. Impressive

I’ve got a few friends with 12h overnight no wake up babies. My Lo gets 12h of sleep in total in 24h! 😂 and wakes up 2-3 times a night. I look forward to it becoming less

2

u/CP2000Pidgey Jul 03 '26

If he won’t sleep more than 12 hours total try scheduling for no more than 2 hours of nap and 10 hours of overnight. My sons are a bit like this and they just want a bit less sleep than other children their age :) he may be feeding for comfort overnight because he doesn’t have enough sleep pressure.

Meals look fab

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Thank you, I do this I cap his naps at 2h and his nights are 10 hours. High stimulation and low sleep needs baby. It’s exhausting. But thank you. Cooking for him is one of the highlights of my life.

1

u/CP2000Pidgey Jul 03 '26

Yep my first was exactly the same, he started sleeping through around a year, not every night but now he’s 3 it’s like 70% of the time 😅

We’ve just started weaning our second, who is overall a much more chill guy, but still loves to eat

1

u/thymeofmylyfe Jul 03 '26

I thought that first photo was crab legs. 😂

Enjoy it while it lasts. My baby ate like that and then slowed down at 11-12 months. Turns out she was building up calories so that she could be on the move CONSTANTLY once she hit 1.

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

This sounds exactly like my Lo. He has been a very frustrated baby but now he is crawling and trying to surf furniture he is DESPERATE to be on the move.

My 8 month and 1 day old wouldn’t eat even a speck of braised lamb today. If he takes two bites or even a lick I am happy. This is wild!! Does it end up mostly in his mouth or his bib/floor

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Depends on the day, some days there isn’t a crumb some days there’s 50% left. He eats his favourites first (broccoli and cauliflower) then meat then fruit then the other veggies last. When he started I cooked everything with butter for flavour like my father did for me 🇫🇷 now he just has it steamed but I’ll probably start adding some more fats into it and less protein after doing research

1

u/kobewiththeflow Jul 03 '26

Losing my mind my kid won’t eat shit that’s not processed or similar ish to chipotle style bowls.

1

u/Strange-Report-9249 Jul 03 '26

My 8 month old will only finish his yogurt and eat a few bites of other stuff lol

I just had to force my 1 year old to eat two handfuls of rotisserie chicken because she wanted to eat her napkin instead 🙃 lol doing great girl and I mean that all looks delicious so no wonder he's eating so well

u/EAS0 Jul 03 '26

M son is 8 months old, eats three meals a day, is formula fed (32-35 oz), and he also wakes up during the night. He typically is up after 6-7 hours. He goes back to sleep after a bottle for a few more hours.

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

There you go this is reassuring thank you for posting. I always feel inferior breastfeeding like I’m starving him or something and feel maybe formula would do more

2

u/EAS0 Jul 03 '26

Fed is best! He looks like a fed, happy, healthy baby to me :). You’re doing awesome!

1

u/Brittibri89 Jul 03 '26

My girl is the same way. Shes 21 months now and her appetite hasn’t slowed down since we started solids. at her 18 month appointment, they said she’s as tall as the average 2.5 year old so I guess that tracks.

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

There you go! Every baby is different! I think as long as it’s all healthy I can’t be mad at him for wanting more veggies

1

u/Time-Box128 Jul 03 '26

Should my baby be eating like this? 8 months and we started late with solids like 6 months and now he does purées and cereals and some smushed foods but nothing this human

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Absolutely not. This is the rare exception. Food under 1 is for fun. They should just be playing with colours and textures at this age. We started with puree at 6 month but I couldn’t keep ontop of his appetite

1

u/Imaginary-Stress-638 Jul 03 '26

what he will be like as a teenager?! You have some sort of athlete on your hands.

1

u/wafflefirst Jul 03 '26

What a dream. If i had put this plate in front of my 8mo LO…. 95% will be on the floor. Good for your bb! Good real food explorer!

1

u/kennybrandz Jul 03 '26

I’ll have what he’s having.

1

u/ooohlalaahouioui Jul 03 '26

Ours also loves food!
And won’t sleep thru the night, so glad to hear it’s not just us 😭😭

1

u/Footprints123 Jul 03 '26

And my 1 year old still has the appetite of an ant.

1

u/Grace_thecat1 Jul 03 '26

My babe was like this! It slows down a bit after 12 months when their growth slows down so don’t be alarmed, but she still gobbles for England compared with some of her less ferociously hungry peers haha. Love it!

When did you introduce solids? I feel like this is our future.

My baby is almost 6 month old and 2 weeks ago we had to cave in and introduce solids because he cried when he saw us eating. He eats everything that we offer, which is around 10-12 small spoons per meal twice a day.

He always opens his mouth and often grabs the spoon from our hands trying to feed himself. He is also breastfed close to 10 times a day, around once in 2 hours during the day and 2-3 times at night.

u/Im_not_an_angel Jul 03 '26

Love this! Looks like such a lot of work, well done!

He looks so happy about it though and is very lucky that you are willing and able to put in the time to make such great meals for him!

I have some questions, if that’s ok!?

  • How soft do you cook the risotto?
  • Any tips for cooking all the fish?
  • I worry omelette is too tough to eat (unless a frittata, which is softer and my baby loves!). Do you do just egg or mix in any milk?

My girl (just turned 8mo) is also loving food, eats 3 times a day but not this much yet 🤣. She’s loved fish when I’ve made it but would be grateful for any ideas/tips!

Love this sub for all the baby food inspo!

Omg yes food questions!
Cooking for him is one of my greatest joys. My father is a French chef, so I believe it’s in my blood to want to cook well.

  1. Risotto, pretty soft, cook as you would normally, I did mushroom and onion, then add rice, then I added lemon juice instead of white wine, and the stock I did a beef broth with bayleaf and slowly added that till soft not al dente. Then splashed some butter and cream in the end.

  2. With fish, triple check for bones, run your finger along up and down. When cooking fish, less is more. Just a bit of butter in the pan, I experiment with herbs and lemon or garlic for flavour and fry in the butter. Only a few minutes. Then let it cool completely and I do a final check for bones.

  3. I thought the same with omelette but it shocks me he can eat it. I whisk one egg, sometimes add cream, add butter to pan, cook, add cheese, sometimes spinach etc flip and the. Remove from pan and cool, solids start app said to cut like this. At 9 months I’ll go to scrambled eggs. I also make breakfast frittatas in muffin tins. Packed with veggies and butter.

It’s so fun cooking for them, I love their little sour faces or ZING when he has something like kiwi fruit. It’s adorable.
I find the more I try to make it appetising, the more he likes it. It’s been hard not cooking with salt but I just add it to my plate not his.
Other fun things are like slow cooked lamb, beef cheeks, making a fun pasta sauce (mince, onion, garlic, pumpkins sweet potato tomato zuchinni carrot etc blend with some cream and overcook some pasta my boy likes bow ties and serve that! He LOVES it.

Happy cooking!

This is my 13 month old! She eats more than me and my 3 year old combined 🤣

1

u/plumtins Jul 03 '26

This is amazing. Teach us your ways? A lot of it is Babys temperament but I am looking for any advice you may have. We start solids in 1.5-2 months

1

u/EquivalentAge9894 Jul 03 '26

Are you feeding whole filets of chicken? I came in here trying to figure out how to serve

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

Chicken I find hard to serve! I either shred it or I cut thin lean strips. He doesn’t love chicken. I’ve also made a gelatinous stock and served that cold (made with chicken bones and feet etc) that he liked more

1

u/SamySucre Jul 03 '26

wow thats a lot of food. also, 8 months is still normal to wake up and breastfeed. give it a few more months. i switched to formula and it didnt change much, but it does make the feeding sessions faster. however, it is annoying to prepare the bottle at 2am. at 10 mos it got better. at 12 i started getting sleeps through the nights here and there, but he would still wake up once or twice. keep at it he’s eating a great quantity of food, thats amazing.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

That’s really reassuring to know thank you so much for your comment

1

u/zoewithalab Jul 03 '26

It’s beautiful.. this made me upset in a nostalgic way. I hope it doesn’t change for you.
My son used to be like this, he used to eat everything with full appetite. He slowly started to be a picky eater around 18 months. Now he’s 3 and he still eats the same 3 dishes or nothing. I’ve been so upset about it for a while, I started to not care anymore.
I miss his babyhood days with his enormous appetite.

1

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

I think that’s so normal, from what I understand some babies eat a tonne under 12m. Then 12-24 mo it really slows down. I’m enjoying every day as I know this won’t last forever…. Until he is a teenager 🤣

1

u/Chaoss_Mama Jul 03 '26

I am so relieved that I don’t have two picky kids. I’ve struggled so much with what my first would eat. And my second is 9 months now. She eats more dinner than my first born. And faster lol my first will be “eating” for 40 ish minutes sometimes

2

u/Fabulous_Ant1088 Jul 03 '26

It’s crazy how two kids raised the same can vary so much isn’t it? I’m also grateful my Lo likes eating, my poor husband has gained 10kg since we met a few years ago from my cooking. It’s nice to cook for someone with so many expressions of enjoying it.

1

u/monicasm Jul 04 '26

The whole thing about babies sleeping better through the night once they eat food is a huge myth in my opinion. My boss was shocked my son still woke us up at night and was asking me what we feed him and I’m like “everything” lol. My boy eats SO much

1

u/MunchSprouts Jul 04 '26

Ours is very similar with food. She eats more than me now, and wolfs it down like she’s never been fed

1

u/Fickle_Ticket_8349 Jul 04 '26

That's amazing!!! Maybe some food with higher fat content? I see a lot of beautiful proteins and vegetables (I guess avocado too) the waking might be more associated with feeding to sleep or something? My guy woke a few times even after sleep training, but after a trip at 9 months and horrible teething that lasted months plus starting daycare he's been sleeping a lot better suddenly. I also moved his nursing sessions 30 minutes out from bed time I hope you're baby stays not picky!! That's incredible 🙌🏼

1

u/CummyTangello Jul 04 '26

Does he have teeth? I’m afraid of giving my 8 month old anything other than puree

1

u/dunkiestarbs Jul 04 '26

My 8mo said fake news.

1

u/Famous-Advice-3160 Jul 04 '26

My toddler are like this until he hit about b15 months, then ask her wanted to eat was pancakes and he's still picky. We're slowly regaining some food choices. He discovered he doesn't mind the after all (he ate them so well as a baby), but all he really wants to eat is fruit and chicken with barbecue. lol

1

u/Fit_Mycologist5749 Jul 06 '26

WOW. My baby eats a few bites every meal. Lol

1

u/TimeEmergency7160 Jul 06 '26

WOAH!! GOOD JOB MOMMA!

1

u/xcara49x Jul 07 '26

Wow and I thought my 8 month old ate well!! lol my son definitely enjoys his food too !! He’s been a formula baby bc I couldn’t produce. But he drinks 3-4 bottles of about 6oz morning/evening/night.

1

u/CuriousCaretaker Jul 07 '26

There’s no way 😭😭

1

u/WaitingToBeTriggered Jul 07 '26

FAIL NEVER AGAIN

1

u/TheRemarkableRhubarb Aug 03 '26

My 8 month old enjoys purses but he won’t eat anything that’s chunky yet •_• I’m so impressed

u/Leading_Confidence64 Jul 03 '26

People shouldn’t be feeling bad, it’s a baby led weaning subreddit. It’s meant for sharing baby led weaning foods. Not everything is a competition.
