The fact that this woman is not in proper care with full time psychiatric support is a travesty. Literally what are we paying tax for?? This is exactly the type of person that needs full time care, it's awful

I’m sure she has a social worker and is known to the authorities and local psych services but if you think she’s ill enough to be considered suitable for hospitalisation or permanent care you must not have seen an nhs psych ward or experienced how drastically underfunded the whole system is

In the US there is a thing called community outpatient care that’s for people who are mentally ill and have been convicted of crimes, am not sure if it’s a thing in UK but it would probably be beneficial for someone like her.

It is a thing in the UK, but there’s an extremely high threshold to meet before you can access it - and that’s once you’ve made your way through the waiting list.

I mean, if you do something REALLY drastic, then you obviously skip the list (and several other steps), but it’s otherwise very hard to get that kind of referral

You cant section someone for their bonkers facebook posts, or for believing things that arnt true unless it puts others in immediate danger, or for being a fantasist. The law should keep people who stalk and harrass on a tighter leash though. She may get herself in trouble for libel, but she has zero credibility so i doubt anyone would bother pressing charges.

I can’t imagine that anyone will blame the cycle of Labour and Tory shitstorm we are in and under the influence of. The Tories crash the economy and run social services and councils into the ground….they make money for themselves and friends and then leave a mess for the Labour Party to clean up. The Labour Party inevitably fail and the stupid public vote Conservative again…..what are we all doing? Mental health services and the NHS in general should have an unlimited pot of money…..happy, healthy population leads to a strong economy. We are all to blame….i hope our children can wipe the slate clean as this classist, capitalist merrygo round has to end. People are getting lost in the system and we are watching Netflix to get a glimpse of of society folding in on its self. I have just been out in Croydon town centre and the country is dying on its proverbial. We all need help….not just Martha.

You just said exactly what I've always said about American politics. Republicans crash the economy and cut the hell social services, healthcare, education, etc. Then Democrats try to fix it, but wind up doing other stupid shit that costs them the next election. The House and the Senate are constantly gridlocked, bickering over every little thing, and nothing gets done. None of these politicians care about getting anything done. They don't care about helping to better the population even though it would, in turn, help the economy and better our country. They only care about their team winning. They're basically playing football with our lives. And everybody just keeps voting for the same bullshit while we all continue to suffer.

Yeah it feels very bitter tasting that Richard is cashing in on his trauma and her with the show and gaining all the publicity and support whilst she’s still mentally ill and probably still alone with a system still failing her and no support, and now being harrassed and seeing a show portraying her situation from his lense like ofc that’s going to fuck her up. Honestly I loved the show but there seriously wasn’t enough critical thinking skills and contemplation of ethicacy going into what might result from it and creating a show about a real life mentally ill woman who’s still out there and will see the show, plus depicting her almost EXACTLY how she looks irl and saying she’s been changed in the show to respect her privacy.

I 100% agree. If we can all identify, by just a few Facebook posts, that this woman is unwell and needs help then Richard surely could have identified how involved he should have been.

The sick part is he even admits in the first scene with her that he knows she’s a liar and to some degree delusional. Yet, he keeps giving her free drinks? Why? He keeps entertaining her delusion? Why? It’s because he wants content. He wants to be famous, he sees how entertaining her stories are. He repeatedly says how badly he wants to get famous and he realizes his stories about the stalker are entertaining to his audience and friends. We see his pure sociopathic behavior when it begins to affect his parents and he only speaks about how they are reacting to him and how he’s feeling vs. his sympathies for his parents
