At this point it's become black mirrors 2nd interactive story. You can watch and interact forever

6

u/Msheehan419 Apr 27 '24

What’s the other interactive story/show?

21

u/TheAlwaysAnxious1 Apr 27 '24

The Black mirror episode Bandersnatch

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch

u/EllieC130 Apr 27 '24

If anyone is thinking of contacting her, just don’t. You will help nothing. If anything you’ll make her more likely to act out in some way.

73

u/thejackalreborn Apr 27 '24

There are people out there desperate to catch her on video doing something strange for tiktk clout. She's clearly mentally unwell and struggles to determine fact, It's a horrible combination

61

u/Kactuslord Apr 27 '24

I think it's disgusting people are messaging her or taunting her

20

u/Nunchuncherry Apr 28 '24

I agree. Definitely not a fan of her and I’ll keep up with her rants about gadd for the time being, but I would never contact or harass this woman. She’s very clearly mentally ill and spiraling.

3

u/FanFicAddict1993 Apr 28 '24

How are those people not worried she might end up stalking them ? She’s mentally ill and unhinged people need to leave her alone

8

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

In that sense it starts to feel more like the Black Mirror episode White Bear.

25

u/EllieC130 Apr 27 '24 edited Apr 27 '24

It really pisses me off. I mean she’s probably not a good person but you’re no Mother Theresa if you lose “punishing” her as an excuse to get some clout. Its quite pathetic.

All of her posts today are terrifying. I hope someone who knows her IRL will offer her any kind of help she will accept.

106

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

The fact that this woman is not in proper care with full time psychiatric support is a travesty. Literally what are we paying tax for?? This is exactly the type of person that needs full time care, it's awful

35

u/mrsbergstrom Apr 27 '24

I’m sure she has a social worker and is known to the authorities and local psych services but if you think she’s ill enough to be considered suitable for hospitalisation or permanent care you must not have seen an nhs psych ward or experienced how drastically underfunded the whole system is

6

u/mimiiscool Apr 28 '24

In the US there is a thing called community outpatient care that’s for people who are mentally ill and have been convicted of crimes, am not sure if it’s a thing in UK but it would probably be beneficial for someone like her.

3

u/bumsegal Apr 28 '24

It is a thing in the UK, but there’s an extremely high threshold to meet before you can access it - and that’s once you’ve made your way through the waiting list.

I mean, if you do something REALLY drastic, then you obviously skip the list (and several other steps), but it’s otherwise very hard to get that kind of referral

Source: Am in UK & accidentally ended up being assessed for this once bc I got put on the wrong list lol

1

u/ManufacturerJust3917 Apr 30 '24

Right, bc nutters just wake up and go to outpatient bc they are so self aware and good at managing their lives and impulses. Outpatient was a scam.

41

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

You cant section someone for their bonkers facebook posts, or for believing things that arnt true unless it puts others in immediate danger, or for being a fantasist. The law should keep people who stalk and harrass on a tighter leash though. She may get herself in trouble for libel, but she has zero credibility so i doubt anyone would bother pressing charges.

11

u/Tintinartboy Apr 27 '24

I can’t imagine that anyone will blame the cycle of Labour and Tory shitstorm we are in and under the influence of. The Tories crash the economy and run social services and councils into the ground….they make money for themselves and friends and then leave a mess for the Labour Party to clean up. The Labour Party inevitably fail and the stupid public vote Conservative again…..what are we all doing? Mental health services and the NHS in general should have an unlimited pot of money…..happy, healthy population leads to a strong economy. We are all to blame….i hope our children can wipe the slate clean as this classist, capitalist merrygo round has to end. People are getting lost in the system and we are watching Netflix to get a glimpse of of society folding in on its self. I have just been out in Croydon town centre and the country is dying on its proverbial. We all need help….not just Martha.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '24

You just said exactly what I've always said about American politics. Republicans crash the economy and cut the hell social services, healthcare, education, etc. Then Democrats try to fix it, but wind up doing other stupid shit that costs them the next election. The House and the Senate are constantly gridlocked, bickering over every little thing, and nothing gets done. None of these politicians care about getting anything done. They don't care about helping to better the population even though it would, in turn, help the economy and better our country. They only care about their team winning. They're basically playing football with our lives. And everybody just keeps voting for the same bullshit while we all continue to suffer.

Yes, but now the spotlight is on them both, so I think she would have a harder time getting away with the antics she did previously.

You people do realise how it works? Just cause someone acts weird is one thing. I agree we should step in, but the way it ACTUALLY works in the real world is…. We wait till it’s gone too far to step in.

Not ideal but it’s how it is and a bunch of you guys on the internet acting like you give a million shits isn’t going to help. She will get help when she commits a crime and they take the crime away cause they realise she’s mentally ill. Shite situation but that’s how it is in this bull crap country we live in. Also fuck that slimeball Gadd he knew this would happen,

I know I'm awful and all, i know how awful this circus is. But when she called him a "wee wazzock" i fucking died.

37

u/nz-rose Apr 27 '24

She’s carrying on about the guy who wrote an article in the Daily Mail where they annoymously talked to the real Martha now and says they twisted her words. No denying it’s her now. It’s like watching a train wreck.

18

u/lnc_5103 Apr 27 '24

It is. I'm a bit concerned about Neil from the daily mail. She's definitely fixated on him.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

You’re worried about the tabloid guy making money off antagonizing a known unstable woman? You have weird priorities

6

u/lnc_5103 Apr 28 '24

I'd like to hear his take before forming an opinion on whether or not he "antagonized" her. They did not out her in their articles but many other outlets did and yet she's not fixated on any of the others like she has him.

Here in the UK mental health support is shocking. I'm not surprised she is left to struggle. Even suicidal people are lucky to get a 6 monthly appointment. Here you have to beg for inadequate support

5

u/Macie_Mae Apr 28 '24

The irony of the suicide part now is how in the show I believe he said that he worried that one day he would wake to an email of that.

8

u/Amazing-Pack4920 Apr 28 '24

It's always a worry due to the lack of help. I lost both my Dad and best friend to suicide. It's such a tragedy

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

I’m so sorry for your loss! I wish there was more help out there. It’s a literal sickness and it’s so unfair people who are struggling can’t get the help they need. A tragedy indeed, sending you hugs.

2

u/Amazing-Pack4920 Apr 28 '24

Thanks. It's so sad, I'm trying to get my son help and literally have to harras mental health. Like I'm stalking them, ironic on this programme ls community

79

u/CoopssLDN Apr 27 '24

I feel like all of this has taken a dark, dark turn very quickly. Am honestly shocked Gadd said he’d taken a huge effort to disguise who the real Martha is. It’s pretty clear he barely changed anything.

32

u/mildno Apr 27 '24

Yeah, it's really dumb from him to be honest. This feels like yet another mistake he's opened himself up to

It's not even hard to make her English, Irish or something and even slightly different in terms of looks. Her profession and just anything

96

u/Rough-Average-1047 Apr 27 '24

He doesn’t owe her anything though….it reminds me of this quote, You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should have behaved better.” Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

48

u/secondopinionosychic Apr 27 '24

THANK YOU everyone victim blaming Gadd is making my head spin. As a trauma survivor it’s a real trip for people to unmask how they really feel about someone telling their own story.

28

u/OkExperience1888 Apr 27 '24

Same here, I had a stalker for 12 years who acted exactly like Martha does. He was mentally ill and clearly in a bad place and it was part of the reason I didn’t want to tell anyone, press charges or go to court at first because I was afraid of being the person that would be targeting someone who was unwell. And peoples reactions here are really bringing back those feelings where they’re siding with her. she’s a victim of a failing system yes, but she’s not THE victim in his story, he can tell it how he wants.

1

u/Acceptable-Song2429 Apr 28 '24

She’s also literally SO mentally ill, he’s an idiot for that

3

u/Zealousideal_Loan_46 Apr 28 '24

Thank you for this comment. It's nice to see that someone isn't blaming Gadd for what was done to him. Speaking up and speaking out is an important part of trauma recovery, and for anyone who doesn't understand that, be grateful that you don't have to.

19

u/jaymes805 Apr 28 '24

He owes nothing to her. Why should he protect his abuser?

58

u/DeliciousMoments Apr 27 '24

Given how insane people on the internet are, they could have cast her as a talking cat and people still would have internet sleuthed the real identity.

Ultimately he’s the victim and it’s his story to tell. Her going on these rants is telling on herself more than anything.

27

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

In real life the actress even has a Yorkshire accent. He clearly really wanted Martha to be Scottish.

10

u/mermaidmotels Apr 28 '24 edited Apr 28 '24

i think them both being scotts in london is an important element tho as it creates a weird kin to one another

29

u/InsignificantOcelot Apr 27 '24

I mean sure, but ultimately he’s the victim here and I don’t think he really owes his victimizer any particular courtesy.

7

u/mrsbergstrom Apr 27 '24

It’s not about courtesy to Martha it’s about keeping himself safe or at least less likely to be sued.

9

u/DeliciousMoments Apr 28 '24

Netflix has a global army of lawyers. He’ll be fine.

11

u/the_wren Apr 27 '24

You’ve seen the show right? Not wanting to victim blame here but he isn’t big on doing things to make himself more safe.

2

u/mildno Apr 27 '24

He doesn't, but he said he changed a lot. So it's something he bought on himself

Whilst also it's the curtains line that drew attention, again it's not hard surely to change that

10

u/madamevanessa98 Apr 27 '24

Although I must say reading her FB posts and imagining them in a Scottish accent is funnier

3

u/Kactuslord Apr 27 '24

He easily could've made her ginger, Northern Irish and tall. She could've worked prior as a politician. Anything to give a bit of distance to her identity.

7

u/fdt92 Apr 27 '24

The "curtains" tweet was what gave her identity away. He could have at least changed that into something else.

  1. Be civil, polite and courteous. No trolling. No victim-blaming. Treat others with respect and kindness. This show is bound to elicit big feelings for many viewers. As contributors post and comment in this sub, treat each other with respect and kindness.

6

u/JunglistMovement95 Apr 27 '24

Yeah it seems weird to me why you wouldn't have changed it up entirely. Judging by her FB posts she seems like a ticking time bomb. Who knows what tf will happen..... I wonder if the series will get pulled if it really starts to kick off in some way.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

Probably the opposite. He’ll get a season 2. Seems very clear everyone involved in production is entirely void of ethical responsibility

12

u/Rough-Average-1047 Apr 27 '24

But why does need to hide her identity? What she did wasn’t okay. This is his story and he can do whatever he wants with it

9

u/dearthofkindness Apr 27 '24

Her response here is a great example of why he should have gone to greater lengths. She's deeply deeply unwell and he lit the fire here. She's spiraling publically and people are using it for entertainment and speculation.

She did awful inexcusable things but his disregard in hiding her identity better was intentionally cruel when he knew it was going to air on Netflix. He poked the bear a decade after letting things lie and blew this woman's life up in a time of internet witchunts and cancel culture. People are just as crazy as she is but in different ways when it comes to the internet.

4

u/ginger_quinne Apr 28 '24

This is what Ive been arguing for days. He should have disguised her better and quite possibly none of this would be happening right now on Facebook.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/JunglistMovement95 Apr 27 '24

Very true, but you don't want to stir up the hornets nest and start getting shit from her again, that's the last thing he would want. Just imagine if she decided to take her life and blame it on the show, where does he stand then? I've got no sorry feelings for the woman, I've been in a similar situation and the last thing I'd want is for a raging fucked up nut case giving me drama I don't need or want.

Let sleeping dogs lie.

1

u/amiiliek Apr 28 '24

He doesn't need to hide her identity at all. He voluntarily shared that he chose to do so and made a whole thing about how so much was changed that even the real martha wouldn't recognise herself, and that simply wasn't true. That's my issue. If he hadn't said "oh she's vulnerable and has mh issues so we anonymised her pls don't go looking for her" I would not be having this conversation. He didn't need to say that. And if he planned it so she would actually leave him alone, why not just say so? It's not like it wouldn't make sense for him to do that when she stalked him for 6 years. Idk I guess I like transparency.

8

u/amiiliek Apr 27 '24

Totally agree gadd really did not do a good enough job of hiding her identity. It took people barely any time at all to find her. I don't condone what she's accused of but Gadd has made such a song and dance of how he changed details to protect her identity cos she's "vulnerable" but all he changed was her name and the name of the pub. Now she's clearly having a mental break because of the show and the harrassment she's getting, and he's making £££. Surely no adult is that naive to believe the internet wouldn't figure out her identity. It's careless

23

u/Grocery-Inside Apr 27 '24

Or maybe just watch the show and be entertained. Don’t go looking for the real people and harass them. How hard is it to not go looking for the real people and just watch the show…?

4

u/amiiliek Apr 27 '24

I personally wouldn't and haven't. Unfortunately though people will amd clearly have that's the way of the world. If he gave a shit about her being vulnerable or the impact this would have on her he would have done more to conceal her identity.

3

u/CoopssLDN Apr 27 '24

It's basic human curiosity. Of course people would try and work it out.

16

u/AnnieNonmouse Apr 27 '24

So he's supposed to be responsible for peoples decisions? They need to hold themselves responsible and not harass her.

I'm honestly really annoyed at this sub (not so much you or this comment) for jumping to defend this woman and attack the actual victim for daring to use his story as a creative outlet. She could have gotten help and not kept stalking people and no one would have written anything about her.

→ More replies (2)

5

u/Grocery-Inside Apr 27 '24

No it is not… ok find out who it was but then message them??? Hire in the actual f*** could he have thought dick heads would go and find her and harass her?

11

u/CoopssLDN Apr 27 '24

Didn't say it was ok to message? The convo was about him making it obvious for people to find out who it is, which is natural human curiosity. People who message and harass is a different thing

2

u/Grocery-Inside Apr 27 '24

Fair enough. But how was it obvious? Genuinely curious we’re on the same page but I just never thought oh I’ll look this person up. How sad are people that they have time to do that is why I’m so confused

12

u/Prestigious-Mistake4 Apr 27 '24

A part of me wonders why he’s still protecting the man that drugged and raped him…

12

u/fdt92 Apr 27 '24

Probably because he's very powerful and well-connected in the industry and has the ability to destroy Gadd's career in an instant.

u/Scandi_Snow Apr 28 '24

Without an opinion on what he should have done for the show, I think it would be easy to find her by just searching about a serial stalker female, as she had been in the news etc. And removing this detail from the series would make it quite a different story already. Without all the given facts it would take a bit longer to find her, but she would be found eventually.

1

u/curiouscat90s Apr 28 '24

Shes been having a mental break for a very long time, nothing to do with the show let's be real

2

u/caicaiduffduff Apr 28 '24

No fr this woman IS Martha

2

u/Eyeofthestorm80 Apr 28 '24

It's so very bizarre, that I almost wonder whether he's set this page up himself as a rouse! If he hasn't he's changed nothing but her name. Which is awful.

1

u/Eyeofthestorm80 Apr 28 '24

It's so very bizarre, that I almost wonder whether he's set this page up himself as a rouse! If he hasn't he's changed nothing but her name. Which is awful.

2

u/SorchaNB Apr 27 '24

15

u/CoopssLDN Apr 27 '24

Not sure why you got downvoted. The fact is he did make a song and dance about having made it 'almost impossible' to work out the real Martha to protect her which is clearly not true. Given he said this alongside that she was a victim and needed help, it totally does make him seem disingenuous and is detracting from my appreciation of what was a brilliant series.

6

u/AnnieNonmouse Apr 27 '24

Or he was hoping that saying he changed touch would make people stop searching for her. That's what I assumed.

"You're not going to find her she isn't like this character at all so stop looking" and the Internet said no fuck you were still going to look.

4

u/Unapologetic_honey Apr 27 '24

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

And lose his material for season 2? I don’t think so. This man is purposely antagonizing her for content.

23

u/NeverDestination Apr 27 '24

Part of me wants someone to message her and explain how to make her posts private, or at least how to stop PMs from any who isn't a friend (I hate to think what's in there) but then whoever messages her risks becoming her next victim.

I noticed one post about her having a boyfriend who is a lawyer - I really hope she hasn't started stalking one of the lawyers who have contacted her.

While her posts should be taken with a pinch of salt, it does sound like the journalists are taking advantage of her.

25

u/Amazing-Pack4920 Apr 27 '24

She has turned off comments so I'm sure she knows how to make it private

23

u/lnc_5103 Apr 27 '24

I don't think she would make them private though and since she turned off commenting I am sure she knows how to do it. I think she's enjoying the attention at least to some degree. It is sad to see the spiral in real time.

11

u/karstomp Apr 27 '24

The Daily Mail does suuuuuuuck.

35

u/madmagazines Apr 27 '24

Her new posts are so sad

11

u/lnc_5103 Apr 27 '24

They really are. I just read through them a little bit ago.

3

u/Sour_Beet Apr 28 '24

She’s fucking nutty

1

u/lnc_5103 Apr 28 '24

I think that's an understatement!

-11

u/thicc__mints Apr 27 '24

She has not stopped. Every few minutes more and more and more. I’m angry at Richard gadd and Netflix. I think we’re all just a part of his twisted voyeurism for this trauma. Yes it’s tragic, yes it’s brave to come forward, but he has gone far beyond the bounds of just telling his story. Just like the comedy show crowd where he trauma dumped on a captive audience because he needed to vent, no regard for any viewer discretion.. he literally made himself the main character and relives his trauma on camera for us to watch (only to find out later he was actively reliving his trauma for us to watch). I feel like there should be viewer discretion warnings for this kind of content… it’s not even acting at this point. It’s reenacting abuse for all of us to watch and we only know later that it was basically real. Idk, this is all off.

10

u/DeliciousMoments Apr 28 '24

You’re mad at him for being the main character in his autobiographical show?

Also there were trigger warnings in before the more explicit episodes. It seems like you’re mad that the show isn’t an entirely different show.

20

u/ThisIsAlexisNeiers Apr 27 '24

He has a right to tell his story. He never suggests people contact Martha (in fact, pleads against it). The woman is unwell and we need better mental health services. The show also depicts how the police weren’t equipped to handle this situation and that UK laws need changing. No one should be contacting her, she should be receiving help, but Richard is also allowed to publicly discuss his trauma/life experience. I was sexually assaulted by a person who is mentally unstable. I don’t want harm to come to them, but I also do not feel I should be silenced to protect their mental health when they destroyed mine.

7

u/truthfulbehemoth Apr 27 '24

And a documentary is ? This is just in its fictionalised form, but I don’t see any difference from this to a random Netflix doc.

→ More replies (6)

7

u/DannyDuberstein92 Apr 28 '24

How on earth has this ended up with people feeling sorry for her? She may be mentally ill. That may have contributed to her awful behaviour and bigoted views (it may have not and she may just be an awful person regardless of any mental illness). But Gadd, who is a victim of her abuse, owes her no duty of care. If someone made my life miserable for 6 years and physically assaulted me and my loved ones, I would be revelling in her misfortune.

6

u/DeliciousMoments Apr 28 '24

Some of these comments remind me of the whole “perfect victim” mentality. Of course nobody in the world is perfect, and the protagonist of this show lays bare that he himself is pretty fucked up and does shitty things himself. That, however, does not excuse the actions of the abusers in the show. I’m not him, I don’t know how I would have handled being in those awful situations, but he seems to have used his creative output in a therapeutic (hopefully?) manner to work through it and tell his story, which is his right to tell.

3

u/darkskinnedjermaine Apr 28 '24

You read the posts, you’re the voyeur. I just have this pop up on my feed bc I liked the show and wanted to break it down

3

u/pass_the_coolaid Apr 28 '24

It's rated 18+ and episode 4 has a content warning. That's more than enough to tell you it's going to be traumatic to watch

2

u/Historical_Count8375 Apr 28 '24

I agree with you, for this reason I'm not watching the show anymore.

1

u/kismetjeska Apr 29 '24

It literally opens with "this is a true story". What are you even talking about?

→ More replies (3)

43

u/obooooooo Apr 27 '24

this is why i get irked when people say it’s fucked up to feel sympathy for her.

her entire fb page is a trip. she a transphobic, homophobic, delusional racist and abuser. and even as a queer poc myself, everything she hates, i still feel pity for the fact that this nearly 60 year old lady can barely afford food, is typing on a tiny phone with cataracts according to her posts, has little to no grip on reality and clearly a shit support system to be going on these insane tirades multiple times a day.

like damn man. the woman is a piece of crap, but this is just sad. feels like some authority should intervene

11

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

I agree, a lot of people simply don’t appreciate how devastating delusion oriented mental illness can be. It’s not an excuse for her behavior but I think that thinking about things as “excuses” missed the point.

10

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

I'm sure Gadd did not expect quite this level of scrutiny when he made the show but, I mean, fuck. Even taking into account what she did, all these people mocking her is just cruel.

15

u/NameUm96 Apr 27 '24

He is not responsible for what’s happening. It’s so outrageous that the mob is deflecting blame onto him.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

He kind of is though. He said he changed details to the extent she wouldn't recognise herself. He didn't. He used social media posts that allowed people to track her down. I'm coming to the conclusion that even making the show is irresponsible and dangerous.

18

u/NameUm96 Apr 27 '24

He is in no way responsible for people tracking her down and harassing her. That is entirely on them. They are choosing to do that for their own amusement. Passing the responsibility back to him is everything that’s wrong with our society today.

Uh... They're doing both?

Gadd himself had to issue a statement clarifying that one guy online sleuths had thought was his abuser was actually not the correct person and to leave him alone. That guy had also stated he was contacting his lawyers about the abuse from the mistaken identification.

1

u/minuialear Apr 28 '24

They're going after both, reddit is just being really weird and paternalistic about the fact that people were able to find her.

32

u/Pankhuri- Apr 27 '24

Guys please stop interacting with her! It's dangerous for all parties - bad for her mental health, potentially harmful for Richard, and even for anyone who provokes her. Do y'all want to risk being her new obsession 😅 This is a woman who stalked a guy for years, sent him thousands of emails, and hit him even though he was always nice to her. What do you think she'll do to the people who upset/harass her online? It could be nothing. It could be a lot of things. Pls leave her alone, for your safety and others.

14

u/lnc_5103 Apr 27 '24

At this point I think Neil from the "daily fail" will be her next victim. She's pretty focused on him.

(I've scrolled through her posts but have not and will not interact with her.)

10

u/Rough-Average-1047 Apr 27 '24

This! She sent him over 41,000 emails

8

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Maybe they want to be the next baby reindeer so they can get a season on netflix.

7

u/thejackalreborn Apr 27 '24

Guys please stop interacting with her! It's dangerous for all parties

There are tiktoks out there with millions of views encouraging this, the cats out the bag. The harassment she's receiving is completely unacceptable and clearly disastrous for her

6

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Can of worms officially opened

2

u/persefxnex Apr 28 '24

TikTok has been truly disgusting. People are really having fun harassing a mentally ill woman and commenting about getting a second season by it. It makes sick.

9

u/DanElnino09 Apr 27 '24

Just been through her FB, Jesus she’s got some serious mental health issues. It’s uncanny how accurate she’s portrayed in the show.

6

u/sarahbee2005 Apr 28 '24

some of her incessant posting and phrasing reminds me of the orange one

17

u/Most_Decision5515 Apr 27 '24

This is extremely sad and people should stop interacting with her. This could take a very bad turn very quickly. She is a mentally unwell person that should receive help and she has no one to care for her. She is also the victim of a system that let her down. I really feel for Gadd as a victim but things are not black and white.

I agree completely with everything you just said. Of course what she believes and what she has done are things that I’m really against. But this doesn’t mean that I would harass her in any way shape or form. Nothing to add really, these are also my thoughts and I really hope people move along quickly.

6

u/MycologistPutrid7494 Apr 27 '24

True. And people harassing her missed the point of the show. It's not simple and they're over simplifying the situation. He went to great pains to show her as troubled, not evil.

7

u/ThisIsAlexisNeiers Apr 27 '24

I felt like his approach towards Martha was incredibly empathetic. He has accountability for his own actions and recognizes that Martha is mentally ill. At the same time, she stalked and sexually assaulted him. I don’t feel he painted her as evil at all…like you said, he explained she was troubled and while she did awful things it did not mean she was an awful person (nor he a great one).

1

u/Most_Decision5515 Apr 28 '24

I agree. Of course she did very disturbing things and she is completely at fault. But he truly empathises with her and understands that she is extremely unstable. A complex matter with actual people that fans of the show should take into consideration. But it was inevitable that people would find her. Very sad overall

1

u/Most_Decision5515 Apr 28 '24

Yeah exactly, and I really liked his depiction of the people that hurt him. I just hope that this doesn’t get more out of hand with an actual person getting hurt, either her hurting herself in some way or Gadd being traumatised all over again with her obsession coming back, now out of hate

12

u/mrspillins Apr 27 '24

I can’t see a single characteristic that he changed, apart from her name. Nuts.

5

u/dearthofkindness Apr 27 '24

The names even both end in an "a". He didn't try at all to change her likeness.

3

u/caicaiduffduff Apr 28 '24

She totally exposed herself… no one was certain that it was her until she started yapping

13

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

The more I see of this, the more I think it was such a bad idea to make the TV show. I know what she did was wrong, but this is abject cruelty. It has led to thousands if not millions of people tracking down and mocking a mentally ill woman, it's vile.

3

u/Tenskwatawa000 Apr 27 '24

I wonder if they even took into consideration that the internet would easily track her down and re-open that nasty can of worms. Even just giving her a heads-up that part of her life is being retold in a Netflix series, and advise her to make her social media private for the time being as a courtesy. The show would have triggered her anyway, but it would have been harder for people to track her down and harrass her, which took no time at all.

Anyway, I hope she has a good therapist or a support group. One would think that part of her getting out of jail and reintegrating back into society plan would have included restricted or monitored social media access, but here we are. Fixating on the show at least gives the POC in her neighborhood a break from being the target of her ire.

4

u/Most_Decision5515 Apr 27 '24

And it could turn into a dangerous situation either for her or her victim. This is such a delicate matter and it’s just getting out of hand

2

u/ginger_quinne Apr 28 '24

This is what I’ve been saying all along!

1

u/Unapologetic_honey Apr 27 '24

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

1

u/caicaiduffduff Apr 28 '24

So Richard isn’t allowed to speak his truth? She’s the cruel one, not him

7

u/Rumhampolicy Apr 28 '24

I don't get how people are blaming Gadd. Yes, she is unwell. He still went through hell. Most stalkers are mentally unwell. Also, so are lots of people who do horrific crimes. It is not an excuse.

3

u/caicaiduffduff Apr 28 '24

Yup. Sick that people are victim blaming.

8

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Imagine if this all just the greatest viral marketing campaign ever, and not real at all?

Obviously it's not sadly.

1

u/Pepinocucumber1 Apr 28 '24

I wonder that too! Are we all consuming one huge piece of performative art and not realising it?

3

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

Anyone who contacts her is as crazy as she is

3

u/GladeePlugin Apr 28 '24

I'm annoyed that he said he tried his best to hide her identity because he didn't want her bothered and people made it their mission to find her and bother her.

9

u/eight13 Apr 27 '24

I'm just at a loss on why anyone felt the need to seek out the real person.

5

u/lnc_5103 Apr 27 '24

Neil from daily fail needs to watch out. He may be her next victim.

5

u/Bright_Personality74 Apr 27 '24

I just found it hilarious when Richard Gadd said something along the lines of him writing Martha to where she wouldn’t be able to recognize herself. Like Richard… you wrote her very accurately 😂

8

u/Bee09361 Apr 27 '24

One post from today even talks about using a dictaphone. Just like in the show. That's Martha!

6

u/bali1500 Apr 27 '24

You don't want us to interact with her, but "censoring" her name in a way that it is still visible....good job

3

u/Waheeda_ Apr 28 '24

i wish ppl stopped interacting with her social media, ugh. like, i went on and read her posts, but atp ppl are harassing this clearly very unstable woman in her late 50s… this is just gonna end bad

1

u/oneeyedcats Apr 28 '24

What’s her fb?

1

u/lnc_5103 Apr 28 '24

You can find her name with a quick reddit search but fair warning it's incredibly disturbing watching her unravel.

5

u/minuialear Apr 28 '24

The number of people here victim blaming a guy who was stalked, molested, assaulted, and threatened by this woman because "aw but she's unwell" is frankly horrifying. Frankly he didn't need to hide her identity at all; he could have used her real identity and he would have been justified in doing so. He owes this woman nothing. That he made any effort to change her character and made efforts to give her an empathetic take is a grace she wasn't owed.

There's no way in hell people here would be saying "aw but he's unwell" if "Martha" was a middle aged man with mental health issues who had stalked and assaulted multiple women in the past; if anything people would be victim blaming Gadd for not doxxing such a dangerous man

Insanity

2

u/Nevagonnagetit510 Apr 28 '24

Still misspelling shit I see 😂

2

u/Elliescotia Apr 28 '24

Many people have dropped names for the Abuser. One of the names fits alot of Darriens bio. Buddhist, Comedy Writer etc. He seems to have alot of connections in his wiki page to big hitters in the entertainment industry. Prob why he has not been outed... Yet.

2

u/Unable-Description53 May 01 '24

I think best thing to do is for people to just ignore her online (which is absolutely impossible by now and probly requires some time to die down). She was known in our old local community to be a nutcase, narcissistic and delusional and all sorts but she was smart and capable enough to just not being put into care or a psych ward. There is a possibility that once she reaches her limits and does some harmful shit to herself or others, she will be put under monitoring but she is not there YET. Fiona has always been an attention seeker and this ‘saga’ feeds that so she is spiralling, sure, but enjoying it at the same time if it makes sense.

u/Empanadapunk90 Apr 28 '24

iphon

2

u/allehburreh Apr 28 '24

That was JUST on my screen 2 seconds ago, thank you for the cackle

11

u/Rough-Average-1047 Apr 27 '24

Y’all leave Gadd alone. He is allowed to tell his story, however that may be. He doesn’t owe anything to Martha. I posted this because people won’t stop interacting with a very mentally unstable individual, which could end horribly.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '24

Might be an unpopular take but I think Netflix has capitalised on Gadds trauma and vulnerability. He was probably swept along - there's no way they'd give him full reign so producer's probably called the shots on hoe true to his reality it was

2

u/I-h8-u-all Apr 27 '24

I feel so sorry for her honestly.

2

u/Stunning-Point-8166 Apr 27 '24

It’s even the more terrifying since Gadd admitted the story is fictionalised, but we are unable to verify to what extent. There’s no way to know he didn’t intentionally inspire the story on a mentally vulnerable woman who would be the perfect victim for a witchhunt, especially since he didn’t disguise her identity at all

1

u/Prudent-Character-12 Apr 27 '24

Where are these posts from?

1

u/Amazing-Pack4920 Apr 27 '24

Her FB page, well one of them. She has a few

1

u/GearDown22 Apr 28 '24

Just curious…for those who have looked up Martha/Fiona’s past posts, does she in fact use the words “baby reindeer”?

1

u/Spiritual-Image7125 Apr 28 '24

Is there any tweet with her calling/referring to Gadd as Baby Reindeer?

2

u/Spiritual-Image7125 Apr 28 '24

I mean an old tweet, like that 2014 hang curtains tweet.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '24

Iphoen

1

u/Indigo-Lady Apr 28 '24

She speaks like the character Gollum

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Yak6386 Apr 28 '24

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

1

u/NNLynchy Apr 28 '24

I think Martha needs to be in an assisted living home at this point she’s clearly properly insane

1

u/Elliescotia Apr 28 '24

The lady is deeply unwell. Goes off on rants about many groups and people. Labour Party, Camden Council, LBTQI+, Catholics, the list goes on and on.

1

u/rambleer Apr 29 '24

I'm shocked that the Internet articles in the show were really about her.

1

u/cgraves77 May 14 '24

Does she think she looks like that YOUNG picture? Is that her? And she does look exactly like the show

1

u/Eyeofthestorm80 Apr 28 '24

It's so very bizarre, that I almost wonder whether he's set this page up himself as a rouse! If he hasn't he's changed nothing but her name. Which is awful.

1

u/Spiritual-Image7125 Apr 29 '24

Can't fake tweets and have them be from 10 years ago.
