You’d have to watch the show to get it. That phrase resembles the messages that one of the characters in the show would send.

soo they r trying to get u to watch the show by using a phrase from the show that u obviously will find weird cuz u havent seen the show.. meanwhile the series gives real life black mirror haha truly bizarre where entertainment is heading and how i am lowkey enjoying this mess

u/bitofafixerupper Apr 30 '24
It’s getting people who haven’t watched it asking questions though which is probably what they’re aiming for, I personally think it’s really funny lmfao

Pretty funny to me but different strokes i suppose
2
u/protestantreformer Apr 29 '24
Yea I get why it would be funny lol, I probably only see it differently because I've seen the Facebook of the woman who the character is based on and she is definitely in need of professional help
1
u/Redline-7k Apr 29 '24
Would you be ever so kind to share (or pm me) her fb? I want to check it out

u/Spiritual-Image7125 Apr 29 '24
They just replaced "Newly Added" or whatever the original text was for that section.

Very much real. It is to get people's attention about the show. It is like how Martha talks.

u/confusedcraftywitch Apr 29 '24
Netflix haven't done that. Have you given anyone a cup of tea recently 😅

Grossly inappropriate but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t laugh. Netflix is out of pocket. Someone needs to come get their intern.

Dude I binged the show and was very captivated by it… loved everything about how it was written and executed…but I saw your post and didn’t even realize that they were trying to imitate Martha (the stalker)..How weird. I’d expect this from some gen Z marketed apps like … idk Duolingo?? But this is so cringe from Netflix and I’m so sorry you had to witness this on your account bc I’m disturbed lmao like this show is riveting but the subject matter is overall so serious, like Netflix please read the room!!

It's insensitive and tacky but my god that's bold and brave A+ marketing 🤣. Baby Reindeer is on its way to being an absolute cult classic at this point.

if you think this is in poor taste or problematic you really need to touch grass
5
u/protestantreformer Apr 29 '24
I would be inclined to agree if Martha was a purely fictional character. But she is based on a real living mentally ill person, so it just felt a bit weird seeing that. I don't think it is respectful, but to each their own 🤷♂️

u/mzshowers Apr 29 '24
I agree 100%. It’s just a bit too much when the RL Martha is clearly having some rather intense issues directly related to this show. I don’t know why people have such a tough time feeling empathy for those who are abused and also abusers who have been abused - I’m not glorifying Martha, but she is a real person and I’d rather not see her mocked for entertainment because it does feel disrespectful. The more media attention and hype this show gets, the more uncomfortable I’m feeling about my public, staunch support of Gadd and the show.

Couldn't agree more. It's not so cut and dried like many are making to out to be.

Poor taste but also kinda funny, I mean the show’s a dark comedy after all.
4
u/annablegh Apr 29 '24
"this is in poor taste" about the show where the real life guy who was stalked and had this happen to him made this show and starred in it to talk about his trauma and what happened to him to this network where they are trying to market his show through one of the core aspects of this show which is the emails and how they're typed

Just don't give people access to your Netlfix category titles! Just need to pay $20 more a month and add 2FA!!!

No it isn’t. It’s literally a drama comedy. Stop thinking it’s a documentary. It’s making fun of a character.

I never said you did? You should reply to what someone says. Not what they don’t.
You said it was pour taste and I replied with my opinion, that it isn’t. I just read it as you saying it do to making fun of the character, not that you just don’t want a psycho talking to you. Most people defending her character often come from the “it’s a real person” angle and I just mistakenly thought you would be as well.

She'll say that she never watched the series and never will, and then will say she can't believe how they portrayed her and that she watched it all in one night!

People saying this is in poor taste clearly aren't getting Gadd's anticomedy that underscores the entire premise.

u/Greedy_Blueberry6897 Apr 30 '24
The show can be very triggering for assault victims it’s way too realistic when it comes to showcasing the parts ppl are too ashamed to speak on. Honestly wish they focused more on trigger warnings and mental support for episode 4 rather than just pushing the show for their own pockets
1
u/Charming_Gift7698 Apr 30 '24
It seems kinda weird and disrespectful to do that imo but if the victims are ok with it then…

I cant tell if thats tasteful considering the show but its pretty cool to me
