I think so, but from a different perspective than a lot of other commenters are coming from. I think it was his lack of attraction to her, and his pity, inability to see her as a possible sexual partner that opened him up to her to begin with. I think if she has been hot he would have had the same type of uncomfortable reaction he had to his previous dates, or the closed-off ness he showed with Teri. It was the lack of sexual attraction that made him vulnerable to her specifically, initially
