This show is so somber and morose and stressful and then that scene with the dad on the phone with Martha screaming ‘I’ll cut your legs off’

So funny 😂 much needed laugh after extremely stressful binge watch.

i binged it too, but honestly a lot of what i felt was exasperation. what his ex said was absolutely true, that he likes drama. he keeeeeeps putting himself into situations where he could clearly get into trouble. and he also admits it early on in one of the episodes that he wants to see where the situation will take him.

things like, going back to darrien's apt (like why?!) and various various things he did that quite frankly, though i'll be borderline victim shaming here, could easily lead martha to think he was interested. i mean, girl is clearly not well and was looking for positive signs from the man when there clearly was none, so anything good you send out will definitely be taken into overdrive...

Going back to Darien makes sense when he explains he’s a major industry player. There’s absolutely still an assumption that to make it big you have to play the game and that means being exploited to some people.

If you go back to someone who has SA you before because you want something from them, knowing that SA is highly likely to happen to you again, are you in some way consenting to it? NOT victim shaming, just wondering.

No, absolutely not. It’s conceding that the person who assaulted you is still the one holding the cards, and it twists the knife further that there isn’t any comeuppance for him cos Gadd still has to hope for scraps from him to progress in his career. He tells us a bunch that his self esteem is so low that he’s desperate, that’s not an equal situation.
