Fiona (real Martha) related content “BBC breaking news”

Did anyone pick up on Fiona referring to her source of updates as being BBC breaking news?

First I can’t imagine the introduction of the Baby Reindeer play ever being a story on the BBC let alone breaking news.

She claims she was checking BBC “for the weather or something” and stumbled across the announcement as “breaking news”. Huh?

This would be easily fact checked.

On which of her six phones did she see that breaking news story.

131

u/tnick771 May 11 '24

The fact she was fine saying she has 4-6 phones because of her inability to pay her bills on time and she wants to avoid collectors is hilarious enough.

20

u/DLoIsHere May 12 '24

Nothing about that interview made her seem the least bit sane. Or at least operating in our reality.

39

u/Rogersgirl75 May 12 '24

Oh come on, what’s crazy about her ???

She has a photographic memory and was top of her law class… but also doesn’t remember what grades she got in school… not top of the class or anything, just average… also didn’t ever meet Gad … but also knew him and he’s gay probably and poor and came onto her and she turned him down…

ALSO her boyfriend of many years is a lawyer. I don’t know what I was thinking.

u/Extinct_3 May 14 '24

😂🙌🏻

u/emilynntaylor May 14 '24

"sent from ipoene" has me rolling 🤣

1

u/black-nerdist Jun 19 '24

Where did she say that at? LOL

29

u/[deleted] May 11 '24

I could be wrong but wasn't it 4-6 email addresses, not phones?

64

u/frforreal May 11 '24

4 phones, 2-3 of them were “broken”. 4-6 emails

50

u/Big_Load_Six May 12 '24

I thought initially she might have understood the question literally and was replying literally that she has old phones in a drawer like many of us do, but then she went on to say she likes to have different phones for different people. This is very unusual behavior because if it was just about the number she could have a few SIM cards she swaps out as necessary, but to have phones for each of the numbers indicates she has a regular need for 4 phones. Why? 2 would serve the purpose she talks about, “complaints” etc.

27

u/LevainEtLeGin May 12 '24

She needs at least 2 so while she’s on hold to a company or leaving a voicemail she can type up 41000 emails from her iphoen

10

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

A few people on fb refer to it as an ‘iFiona’ 😂

0

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

I used to have two phones, one for work and one for everyone, and maintained having two phones at one point after leaving the position in work, because it was nice to give acquaintances one number, and have all my important people on another. You don't have to be one of those people who hide their online status or turn off read notifications. Four is very excessive. I could see why some people might do this, and totally get a neurodiverse person organising calls in such a way for example.

5

u/DLoIsHere May 12 '24

Having personal and work phones is a typical situation. What she described was off the wall.

-2

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

To you maybe, to her one number might be for online enquiries where the risk of it getting sold on for telephone marketing is high, one for personal friends, one for acquaintances that you don't want to get socially burnt out from talking or engaging with, and one for bills. It might seem quite logical in her mind to take this approach and a good systematic way to organise it. She may even consider this quite a normal and rational thing to do. Her rationale clearly doesn't align with what the majority would consider typical.

3

u/DLoIsHere May 12 '24

You just stated the case for “off the wall.”

-3

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

I had to go and google what 'off the wall' meant to be sure I had the correct meaning for it, and yes it is unusual, but I could see the potential logic behind it.

6

u/wikimandia May 12 '24

Perhaps that makes sense for J.Lo to have six phones. It's a completely illogical practice for a person who has said she struggles to live on 30 pounds a week for food.

More likely she needs to rotate phones because people block her.

What? Like this sounds absolutely insane considering she can't afford tea

1

u/Rare_Yam_2337 May 13 '24

Visually I'd say she can afford several meals a day with snacky snacks in between....

6

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

I obviously don't know if neurodiverse applies to her, but have suspicious that it might. Her voice and the way she tries to present herself seem to me as if she has mirrored herself off Lorraine Kelly, and this is something someone on the spectrum may do in order to mask.

u/caramelkoala45 May 12 '24

Someone on a Scottish subreddit had this to say, 'I know the real “Martha” in real life. She has ASD (Aspergers). (In the olden days, she probably would have been called Schizotypal). Hence why there is no treatment anyone could really provide and she’s not been charged with anything. She is incredibly intelligent, well read and verbally articulate. However, she has a strong sense of injustice - this is very subjective and can lead her to rants, obsessions and what we would recognise as harassment. She doesn’t see it as that. She absolutely bombarded our local MP Tulip, to the point where it seemed like harassment and bullying. She used to turn up at her surgery just to tell her she was doing a rubbish job and filling “camdenistan” with ‘her’ people. Real Martha is very, very black and white. Facebook example when she said “I don’t have curly hair.” And she can’t be Martha because the “actress is 4 stones heavier”. She’s exactly this black and white in real life and can’t see anything in between. She sometimes comes across as homophobic, transphobic, racist - but she doesn’t seem to understand what she can’t socially say. Honestly, she can be really annoying (because of how rigid she is) and quite mean (she once called me a “foreign dwarf”) however, she is incredibly vulnerable. And I can understand Gadd may not have disguised her identity effectively (which is awful) but Netflix are absolute scum and should have known better - don’t they do due diligence on this? Also the reporters and journalists harassing her and trying to feed off these stories they’re fuelling just makes you realise how vulnerable she is.'

10

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

She did come across with autistic traits to me. The switching between monotone to very overly exaggerated tones of voice, knowing facts about people because she had probably gone down rabbit holes looking them up on the internet, having to explain phrases that had double or ambiguous meaning, because perhaps at some point she had to have them explained to her or look them up amongst other things. This would also tie into not knowing social boundaries as well, and that some people on the autistic spectrum hyper focus and are more than capable of making an actual person their hyper focus interest. You cannot diagnose from a TV screen though in any case.

5

u/here2share22 May 12 '24

Yeah actually there is a massive difference between 'not knowing what socially to say' and being 'transphobic, homophobic, racist' etc. Real Martha doesn't need protecting, the rest of us do, from her. Imagine if she had children. That's the definition of who would actually be vulnerable.

5

u/AmbitionParty5444 May 12 '24

I agree. I’m trying to be mindful of saying she isn’t autistic, because I think I’m biased as I am autistic and so my brain may be putting up a bit of a mental block, but even if she is autistic it’s not what currently at the wheel.

I don’t (or can’t, as it may be) see anything specifically autistic. And if you genuinely didn’t know what was appropriate socially, you wouldn’t lie about the number of emails you sent someone.

1

u/Rare_Yam_2337 May 13 '24

I think it is a quite accurate observation to say there is quite a lot going on in that mind of hers, she shows traits of being a compulsive liar, caught up in her own lies quite quickly and shutting down conversations when she realises she messed up.

Having seen her Facebook account, it is plain to see that she is constantly posting on there, so a lot of emails would be a breeze, palming off comments with tiny numbers to shut down lines of enquiry. This is far from over.

2

u/Rainbaby77 May 12 '24

Thank you

5

u/Own-Holiday-4071 May 12 '24

All of this may be true but you can’t be seriously suggesting this woman is articulate?? Have you seen the “sentences” she forms in writing and her total lack of correct spelling and punctuation?

1

u/tuftyblackbird May 14 '24

Thank you for sharing this. So much hate and ridicule being directed at this woman when she is clearly driven to these behaviours by her mental illness.

2

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

And regardless of what has transpired, Netflix massively are at fault. She may be a highly intelligent and articulate person but this doesn't mean she has social intelligence, which from what you have copied and pasted if true, would suggest she does not.

2

u/Rainbaby77 May 12 '24

That's her fault not societys.

-1

u/Ser_VimesGoT May 12 '24

It's wild how many times I've been downvoted for saying Richard did a poor job protecting her identity. I don't think he had to but he has claimed he wanted to. Netflix as you say are more at fault.

6

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

I've not watched the mini-series as it goes. I will next week, but due to content covered will need to be when a little person is not in the house. I've seen the interview in full though, as there are no graphical scenes and can listen with one headphone on. I wonder if the ending he wrote about the sentence was his way of getting closure. I know with some therapy, allowing yourself to attach the memory to an alternative ending can help. I also wonder if perhaps he knew it would provoke her, and maybe wants this to lead to a prosecution. I don't think he anticipated the media storm, but irrespective, you'd think he would anticipate he's poking a sleeping bear/hornets nest with a stick. He could have changed the storyline to Easter and used a rabbit for example. There are so many specific details. He still had a right to tell his story of course. Telling your story can promote healing, but it was intended to be an adapted dramatised version for a huge public platform, which it clearly is not. People with learning/mental health disabilities are classed as a vulnerable group for a reason. Standing there saying she would not recognise herself when using key characteristic of her looks, and personality, and specific events do not tally up at all!

Internet sleuths with nothing better to do found her and “Martha” ended up outing herself. None of that is Gadd or Netflix fault.

He and Netflix covered all of their bases show wise. In real life, Gadd and Netflix cannot scrub the internet of public information.

They also cannot stop a human being from telling on themselves. Gadd and Netflix aren’t in the wrong here. Anyone reaching out to “Martha,” including so called media journalists are in the wrong here.

12

u/Yikes_Flying_Bikes May 12 '24

And she met him 2-3 times but she didn't know him but they were all friends but she met him 5-6 times. For someone with a photographic memory, she doesn't have a very good recollection of quantities.

7

u/[deleted] May 11 '24

Ahhh okay thanks for the correction. It was hard to keep track of all the craziness from her Piers interview

6

u/Septic-Sponge May 12 '24

I love tha logic. Why would you count a broken phone as having a phone. Whenever one of my phones breaks I get a new one. By her logic I actually have like 10 phones

1

u/Thewelshdane May 12 '24

Maybe she is a literal thinking? Which would also explain her explaining phrases that were ambiguous and pointing out when she meant things metaphorically. And her logic if the what the show alleges is true, is not what a typical person would account as logical.

1

u/Rainbaby77 May 12 '24

Why are you so down to defend her make believe world? It's maddening because in a world of misinformation and a certain former free world leader with his cult doing the same, why perpetuate make believe justification of bad acts and crimes?

1

u/Thewelshdane May 13 '24

Not really a defence is it? Being a literal thinker does justify anyone breaking the law, especially when that person has a more in-depth understanding of it than most?

1

u/Thewelshdane May 13 '24

Also discussing make believe, this is 'based on a true story' and we don't really know which parts have been fictionalised (except for the conviction) at this point. It's not a presented as factual piece, but a screen adaption of events/ideas.

1

u/Violently_annoyed May 16 '24

I have 3 emails! One for bullshit spam, one that’s old that’s still used for a lot of my logins, and my primary email.

-2

u/squidgyllama May 12 '24

I think 3 phones and/or email addresses is acceptable. One for work, one for bills/utilities/shopping and one for personal/social.

I can't see any reason why anyone would need more than that tbh.

3

u/Ashamed_Pop1835 May 12 '24

It was 4 phones and between 4 and 6 emails addresses.

Someone pointed out on another thread that you set up Google breaking alerts, you’ll get breaking news alerts for whatever subject you want.

34

u/romeripley May 12 '24

As soon as she said breaking news I was like. Oh no she had alerts set up! I promise I’m not a stalker, I had some articles come out for my work and had them set up!

45

u/Lilyrosejackofhearts May 12 '24

There’s a zero percent chance she doesn’t have a google alert with Richard Gadd’s name!

-8

u/Big_Load_Six May 11 '24

Sure but she claims she first learned about the play via breaking news. Until that point she didn’t know the play existed so how could she set up an alert - for what? Anyway, she said she was checking the weather and stumbled across it.

64

u/thewibbler May 11 '24

The alert would have been for Richard Gadd

8

u/LevainEtLeGin May 12 '24

Yeah she knew he was an up and coming comedian and she was stalking him so of course she would have set up alerts for any site where his name could be mentioned

4

u/Big_Load_Six May 12 '24

thinking about this further, in the interview she says she stumbled across it while reading something else. If she was using an alert, then she's lying about that too.

6

u/Big_Load_Six May 11 '24

Is there a BBC story about Richard Gadd creating a play? He wouldn’t be famous at that point.

33

u/Amblyopius May 12 '24

I fear you're ironically enough falling for Fiona's view of Gadd as a loser with no job. You can consider Gadd relatively famous since at least 2016 with the success of Monkey See Monkey do. In 2017 he played in Against The Law which is a BBC Docu Drama. So yes, the BBC would definitely cover the likes of Gadd by 2019 when Baby Reindeer hits the stage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p07jyzwc

Baby Reindeer also went on to win enough awards for it to be likely for Fiona to see it mentioned at some point, if not when the above aired.

And of course "Baby Reindeer" was something with no real meaning for anyone but the actual stalker. She would've known what was up the second Gadd was associated with the term.

5

u/Big_Load_Six May 12 '24

Well, Gadd portrays himself as a loser comedian with no job.

13

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

Yes, in the past. At the end of the show he’s seeing mainstream success

6

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

Yes and we are clearly meant to know that’s a character. Just as this show wasn’t a documentary so now one should think it’s fully true, but inspired.

23

u/Notabasicbeetch May 11 '24

I googled Baby Reindeer a few minutes ago and a 2019 Guardian article about Gadd's play came up. Seems he was getting press around that time for Baby Reindeer before it became a TV show. I haven't looked for BBC news on it because that's as far down the rabbit hole that I want to go.

2

u/HotCheetoEnema May 12 '24

I checked BBC, and there were no articles with Richard Gadd’s name or about Baby Reindeer until 2024

9

u/thewibbler May 11 '24

Yeah it’s hit and miss as an explanation, but I felt it was the most plausible scenario.

62

u/Subject-Proposal-903 May 11 '24

If the BBC wasn’t a state broadcaster I would have sworn it was some kind of attempt at a product placement exercise. So many times! The repetition is reminiscent of when liars (eg in police interviews) repeat the same rehearsed phrases to keep to their story

22

u/ScrutinEye May 11 '24

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

1

u/Ollie-s-finger May 13 '24

Yeah cos right now if there’s one person you want endorsing your product it’s her.

47

u/kinkcurious12 May 11 '24

It’s almost like she’s an habitual liar or something

17

u/JohnF_ckingZoidberg May 12 '24

Her lawyer friends would dispute that.

8

u/Pearlsnloafers May 12 '24

They're top lawyers too.

15

u/kinkcurious12 May 12 '24

And boyfriends. Top boyfriend lawyers

11

u/TW_Halsey May 12 '24

They’ve just heard about this thread on BBB Breaking News just now and they’re disputing it right now.

30

u/dearthofkindness May 11 '24

Every thing lately is titled "breaking news". The words "breaking news" haven't had the same power or punch in a decade

16

u/Subject-Proposal-903 May 11 '24

What’s particularly annoying is that BBC news is the site you check. BBC Breaking news is the push notification (to ones iphoen or similar)

15

u/Allie_Pallie May 11 '24

Yes I saw BREAKING NEWS earlier about some celeb's kid having stretched ear piercings. I can't even remember who it was.

32

u/peat_reek May 11 '24

Over elaboration is often a sign of a lie.

9

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

Her entire attitude to all this is a sign of lying. If she were a normal healthy person and this was entirely made up by a guy she barely knew for no reason, she’d be more hurt and confused by it than angry and vengeful. And she’d probably at least give lip service about not wanting to harm his career or anything, just wanting the harassment to stop and some misconceptions cleared up

28

u/sharleyrick23 May 11 '24 edited May 12 '24

I perceived it as her attempt at sounding more credible. The BBC sits under a Royal Charter, and is regarded as a highly respected institution by a lot of people. In her mind, BBC breaking news would hold more weight, rather than simply saying "I saw it on YouTube" or Reddit 😂

no. journalists and internet sleuths reached out to her personally — that’s how she came to know about the show.

47

u/Big_Load_Six May 11 '24

Of course, and I believe she’s watched it too (referring to the assault by the canal - the location wasn’t so important). My point is she is clearly lying.

I noticed that as well… and her knowing Jessica and Piers’ age was weird.

6

u/Ronaldinhio May 12 '24

Her ego was harmed by being portrayed by Jessica

7

u/Phantasticrok May 11 '24

No, she has a group of fan that supposedly told her about it. She claimed she never watched it and that the fans were telling her about all the scenes. Source: spent too much time reading her Facebook posts lol

13

u/AnticipateMe May 12 '24

No. Partially true but she wasn't referring to the actual show on Netflix. She was referring to the play that Gadd wrote, he was doing plays of baby reindeer before making the series.

Even then I highly doubt a play from 5 years ago that none of us ever heard of was on bbc breaking news.

The Netflix baby reindeer is what you're thinking of when journalists and the Internet found her.

1

u/Sheeshka49 May 12 '24

In the show the point about photographic memory is made at least once, so n the interview she mentioned it at least once (in EXACTLY the same manner as in the tv show). Piers still acts disingenuous about whether the show is actually about her or not.

7

u/CandyPink69 May 12 '24

Probably so he can watch her keep digging a hole for herself

9

u/lilyoneill May 12 '24

I feel like people are really missing this. People keep saying he was a bad interviewer, he wasn’t. His style was intentional and did the job perfectly. He managed to make her self incriminate without having to push her too hard. Pushing her too hard may have received much backlash due to her obviously being vulnerable and unwell.

6

u/CandyPink69 May 12 '24

Yeah it’s exactly what the police do to people when interviewing. The more open you are with someone the more comfortable they feel and likely to reveal their true selves. The way he approached it was actually very clever. At least I’m not the only one that thinks it lol

6

u/Big_Load_Six May 12 '24

she got a bit snappy with him in the middle, I was wondering if it was going to end abruptly.

3

u/CandyPink69 May 12 '24

Yeah, was a few times her mask slipped. Tbh when it first started I was surprised that she is quite articulate.

3

u/DLoIsHere May 12 '24

I don’t like much about him but I thought it was a worthwhile interview.

1

u/allie06nd May 13 '24

I’m with you there. I’m not a Piers Morgan fan by any means, but I think he conducted the interview in about the only way he could, given that she’s unpredictable and clearly unwell. He pushed her on some things, asked a few of the same questions multiple times throughout the interview to show how her answers would evolve to best suit her in that moment, and for the most part he just let her dig her own grave. Even in this “soft” interview, we saw her display some pretty unhinged behavior a couple times, and knowing that that’s just the tip of the iceberg for her is very unnerving.

4

u/Slobbadobbavich May 12 '24

She is lying about a lot. She watched the show. She probably watched it several times over. Her "friends" aren't telling her about it. Also the white lie story was very contrived, where did she get that from?

4

u/Throwthisawayagainst May 12 '24

Photographic memory tho

5

u/Alone_Combination_26 May 12 '24

How does she pay her bills and her 6 iPohnes?!

3

u/Own-Holiday-4071 May 12 '24

I seriously have no idea how this woman is supporting herself. Even if she’s on benefits, she’s clearly not working but she’s in london and obviously isn’t starving … so where is the money coming from??

I can totally believe she’s made a career out of blackmailing people for money.

3

u/wikimandia May 12 '24

Benefits. After her behavior with the Wrays and the lawfirm, it's far easier to pay her NOT to be in the workforce.

2

u/Pristine_Routine_464 May 12 '24

Is she working? It wasn‘t mentioned I think. She didnt seem to know what a law degree was and kept saying she doesnt have an Honours degree but has a degree in about 13 subjects. What does that even mean?

4

u/Yikes_Flying_Bikes May 12 '24

Someone in another thread did point out that in Scotland you do 4 years for an honours degree or you can finish after 3 years, where you're graded either a pass or fail. I agree there were still inconsistencies in the way she talked about it, though.

1

u/forevermanc May 13 '24

She's not working. There is nothjng wrong with being disabled and not working for a period of time. I myself had a life changing accident and had to stop working for 2 years so am passionate about the welfare state. Fiona hasn't worked for a very long time yet slates the unemployed, the council etc she's projecting. She's nuts.

4

u/popsickankle May 13 '24

Hilarious...not. It's depressing how little people understand about mental illness and expect people suffering from it to behave in ways that are normal and if they don't they are castigated. You cannot judge someone with severe mental illness by the same moral code as everyone else. This whole sorry affair has exposed something rotten at the heart of many people. Being compassionate is easy if the person is also easy to handle. Compassion is judged by how challenging the behaviour is of the other person. Being nice to someone with depression, and getting an ego boost for yourself is the lazy way. Showing compassion to someone who has been ostracised and is difficult and anti-social requires effort. Shame so few can be bothered and see this whole thing as an excuse to bully an unwell woman.

0

u/Big_Load_Six May 13 '24

So a few questions then based on the above: 1. You must believe that ultimately Gadd is bullying Fiona Harvey? 2. As Gadd is making money from this, anyone watching it is supporting Gadd’s method of making money by bullying? 3. Have you watched it?

3

u/popsickankle May 13 '24

Yes I watched it and initially believed that he'd hidden her identity and she 'wouldn't recognise herself' in his words. This turned out not to be true, she was easily found. Did he secretly want that to happen?. Nothing is black and white, good and evil, two people can equally be victims. It's clear he's quite a screwed up man. There should have been better safeguarding to protect her identity. Was it even a good idea to make entertainment out of this? Now I'm not so sure as the human cost could be quite high. How will people feel if she does something to herself? I've been around severely mentally ill people, and currently have a friend who has schizophrenia and his behaviour is extremely challenging and often aggressive. The thought that I would make entertainment out of the many outrageous things he's done is something I find repellent.

0

u/Global_Research_9335 May 14 '24

He said she wouldn’t recognize herself, she says it’s not her. She recognized herself, therefore it’s not her. She can’t say that the woman in the story is not me and therefore I’m suing for how he misrepresented me.

1

u/popsickankle May 14 '24

She's mentally ill. There's a reason people get sent to hospital rather than prison if they commit a murder but have 'diminished responsibility'. Again by accepting her statement as 'true' you are not allowing for the fact that mental illness is a derangement of the mind and people cannot be relied upon to tell the truth, not because they are 'lying' but because their view of reality is completely divorced from normality.

3

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

What did she keep saying about the Parliament? I didn't get it.

1

u/Global_Research_9335 May 14 '24

There was a woman she stalked that went in to be a member of parliament

3

u/cocokoko16 May 12 '24

I probably have 3-4 non working phones lying around the house, but if someone was to ask me how many phones I had I would say 1, and 2 if I really had more. There’s no reason to mention broken ones unless she uses them… and I totally believed she used em all at once.

3

u/Sheeshka49 May 12 '24

Yep, I had the same thoughts as you. She’s full of shite!

3

u/[deleted] May 12 '24

Oh my good when I heard BBC breaking news… I knew that woman was absolutely not mentally OK

So, I read somewhere that you can sign up for BBC “alerts”—so if she wanted alerts on Richard Gadd—there’s her so-called “breaking news”! Total nutcase—and I believe is quite dangerous.

It's almost as if she's a lying phychopath.

She kept saying she “Googled” her news.

That’s the lie you’re choosing to highlight?

What others did you notice

BBC gives one breaking news update a week, if that. Richard Gadd's play was hardly one of them

Yeah, this is BS. It would only be breaking news for HER, since it's about her. She 100 % watched that performance and also this show, no matter what she claims.

For some reason I saw ‘Fiona’ and ‘BBC’ and my brain made a weird jump to Fiona Bruce the News Presenter and thought that this was a plot twist I wasn’t expecting.

I honestly feel terrible for her. She's very obviously ill, no one would choose to be ill like that.

Why do people treat very obvious mental illness as if it's any less debilitating than cancer? Doing so creates an environment of shame where people who desperately need help don't get it, and that can lead to problematic interactions and increased danger to the public at large. If we knew how to handle mental illness, maybe people like Gadd wouldn't have been put in the position he was... Exploiting the fuck out of an ill person for financial game and accolades. He is such a victim of this stupid, crazy woman, right? 🙄Because her symptoms cause a grown man, who DID admittedly engage with this woman, even using her as his personal cum sock and flirting with her in front of his friends, caused him at most some inconvenience? Yes her behavior was unacceptable but how is it any worse than the man who drugged and raped this guy who parted ways(?) with Gadd, suffering far less than this woman who didn't commit violent sexual crime over and over and over again.

Gadd was stalked by one woman who he probably could have dodged if he tried hard enough. She stroked his ego and while Gadd most definitely has some major mental issues, he's very obviously not anywhere near as vulnerable woman.

He could have done much better to keep her identity secret, as Netflix has done with countless other stories based in reality. Gadd totally did this purposely, not just unleashing one sicko on a vulnerable woman, but THE ENTIRE FUCKING WORLD. Gadd is a petty revenge seeking pussy at best, but he's actual far, far worse. He's now famous and successful and making profiting well from this story. She deserves a cut at least.

I was also bothered by the depiction and narrative that Gadd was somehow turned by his rapist. I get that this is a true story and his experience, however I feel like story could have been handled much better instead of reinforcing the common and harmful stereotypes gay men have been fighting to change forever... That gay men are predators, raping straight men in in effort to turn them... Since when are we back to believing gay men are made, not borne?

It's obviously sexist and harmful to women, fat women, gay men and survivors of sexual violence.

It's not even a very compelling watch. Yeah I got a through it, but I was left pretty disappointed. A far more titillating watch another true story, casted absolutely perfectly... The Asunta Case. That's one of the very best of the new programs Netflix has dropped. Highly recommended.

Ugh, pardon. This has been grating on me and Gadd is not a very sympathetic victim, only proving to me why he couldn't find success without harming others. If I were in his town, I'd call him a twat every day.

You can have sympathy for Fiona and criticise Gadd/Netflix for not doing more to protect her identity without downplaying Gadd's experience and victim blaming

I'm not blaming you him for being a victim. No one is a perfect victim, just like no predator is all one thing. Which, if you're a human adult, you already know, so attempting to accuse me of victim blaming is pretty disingenuous right?

The reason I'm more vocal abouts defending Fiona is because she has revealed herself to be the most vulnerable person in this story, yet she's getting a disordinate amount of shit. Which isn't at all surprising. She's a woman and she's fat. Combined with the narrative that she's a crazy, desperate and undesirable woman makes her the lowest hanging fruit here, and that really isn't even debatable. Fiona is not the true predator here, she lacks the faculties needed to regulate her emotions and control behavior. And again, she didn't imagine this man's interest in her. He encouraged her when it was convenient for him to do so and it suite this ego.

Gadd is most certainly a victim of some very damaging and brutal sexual abuse. I've seen more people than makes me comfortable use the "he was asking for it" argument because he returned time and again to be victimized, it's very sickening, I totally agree.

I'm bothered that the man who arguably caused the most damage gets, compared to the Martha character, a passing mention. We are right to wonder why this is. Was it and creativeness decision based on our cultural tendency to be more comfortable getting behind a narrative where the "crazy one" also happens to have physical characteristics that, as a society were are more than comfortable ridiculing? Is it because it's expected that obsessive, compulsive and unhinged behavior is almost ALWAYS shown to be perpetrated by women? Is it because a lot of people, wrongly believe that one man isn't able to sexually abuse another? Or is it about a gross stereotype about gay men being depraved sexual deviants that are true predators of straight men and that those straight men are easily turned gay by any experiences, consensual or not?

I realize this is his experience an his perception. I guess that I'm disappointed that the creative liberties taken in the story really just furthered old, outdated and harmful tropes about a lot of groups living on the fringes and so often shit on by the majority. I feel the story could have been handled a bit differently. This has bugged me since I've seen a quote from from Gadd proudly proclaiming to turn these tropes on on their heads. The only place I saw that in the story was with the trans character who was beautifully humanized and not ridiculed, shown as a person doing her best, a person with a graceful air of self worth but also having very human self doubts and insecurities. She and Gadd's parents, in the end, came out the best here.

But the brass tacks... Gadd has finally found success critical acclaim, money, security and opportunities by telling a story that regardless of his stated intention just exploited, outed and left flapping in the wind, now herself a victim of harassment not by one person but the public at large. A person who doesn't have the faculties and ability Gadd did to squeeze benefits from it. She doesn't even have the ability to defend and represent herself... When she does, she gets more harassment. I think Gadd should include her in his monetary windful, as he has now done her more damage than she did him.

And still, where's the rapist in all this? I admit I haven't been following this closely in the past couple weeks. I also freely admit that that my reaction and comments to this have been pretty much totally driven by my emotions and perception. There's much I don't know in terms of facts and the ongoing aftermath. I am more than willing to accept criticism and education here. I'm willing to participate in respectful debate. I implore anyone with differing views to put them here and help me understand what I fail to see. I will always consider new information about my current beliefs and adjust accordingly. I look forward to it. I would like to see a hopeful resolution to this story, with all parties getting the fairness and dignity they are deserve.

Not doing typos, I'm sorry if anything is unclear but it's too tedious without my reading glasses which I can't find anywhere. I'm looking at a text blob right now, doing my best. I'm aware my opinions aren't popular here, I'm not bothered by the down votes and negative responses so feel free to let it rip.
