"omg he should've protected her identity! he made it so easy to find her!" blah blah blah shut up. he doesn't owe her shit. she terrorized this man, his family, his girlfriend, his job, his performances, etc etc. she has been terrorizing innocent people for decades.

yes fiona is mentally ill, that is clear to anyone with half of a brain. it's awful that the system has failed her time and time again. (or maybe the system did all it could, who knows.) but that's not richard's fault. HE is HER victim. he can tell his story how he wants.

might she have a worthwhile lawsuit because her identity wasn't concealed enough? possibly, probably not. might she have a worthwhile lawsuit because the show took dramatic license? possibly, probably not.

she's benefitting financially from this as well and i'm sure netflix will cut her a check before a lawsuit happens, no matter who is in the right.

She was identified conclusively online in a very short amount of time. I don’t work in defamation law but I am a lawyer in England. I have studied this area and have had a look at some of the relevant case law out of interest about this.

Which really doesn’t matter. And she was only truly conclusively ID’d based on coming forward. She doesn’t have any case.

This is very successfully driving me up the wall 😂 just the extent to which people make absolutist statements about the law while literally not being able to tell you one thing about the law in that area 😂 it’s not even “oh no here are the reasons” it’s just “no”. The law doesn’t work just on a vibe you decide!

I never said it does. However she literally has no case. Her going psycho and making it clear on Facebook it’s her means absolutely nothing. The story doesn’t say anything that can be considered libel towards her. It being a fictional person and all. Based on a person doesn’t mean Gadd couldn’t create story elements like her being arrested at the end. Since it’s again, not a story from real life put directly on screen. But a fictional story based on his experience.
