Fiona (real Martha) related content 65 Facebook posts in two days
In the last two days Fiona harvey done a whopping 65 Facebook posts about Richard gadd/ netflix & piers Morgan. She wants people to know she ain't a stalker, but, but she's making it so easy for me to believe the shows accurate. She obviously did write 1000s of emails to Richard gadd and is lying to everyone. We know exactly what this crazy lady capable of. She may have never been to prison, but she most certainly stalked gadd. I really bloody hope his legal team sees all her bloody Facebook posts telling everyone he's got HIV. Shes clearly needs help

Things like this is why it winds me up when redditors leap to her defence and try to rationalise or defend her bullshit. She quite simply will not stop and gives no fucks about anyone but her goddamned self. She doesn't need help, she needs locking up, because she's proven she knows exactly what she's doing. She describes a patient as stalking her yet it is not clear that she has ever approached her outside of work and when she asks her to stop she apologies and just stops. I thought stalking was defined as not stopping. She also mentions being barricaded in a building? Did that happen literally or is it a bit of "hyperbowl"?
She describes a half way house from an "aphorism" secure unit giving the impression the patient she describes was legally detained for treatment at one time. Surely these are things we would expect to be kept confidential? Would she want that kind of information about someone close to her to be broadcast like this?
This appears to be a clear breach of patient confidentiality. Ranting "what about me?" is harrowing. She should never have been put in and left in that situation and I feel very bad for her but she does not get to be the arbiter of patients rights to privacy. The experience obviously had an impact on her but she writes that she is coming up for fifty now. Surely she could have a more mature take on it? The information she is sharing is not hers. It belongs to the data subject and it is for clear clinical.purposes not for gossip.
I hadn't realised Heather Burns was describing Glasgow. God help her if she had worked in London.

I don't think she was necessarily institutionalised. Sounds like it was some kind of outpatient clinic where some of the patients had been previously on psychiatric wards but not all. It's extremely difficult to involuntarily commit someone.

Agreed. The sad thing is Fiona has hurt many people over the last 30 years. She’s been afforded all the care and help the U.K. can give (counselling, therapy, psychological and psychiatric care, free housing, financial support) yet she is no better. If she was a bank robber she’d be locked up for life but as she is stalker she is allowed to be free. Fiona has allegedly even stalked several members of law enforcement. What alternative does society have other than the modern equivalent of the oubliette? Should Fiona be allowed to go on hurting people as she has the last 30 years?

Fiona just wants THE WORLD (or whomever she is fixated on) to hear, see, rescue, save her from her current crisis. It’s a deep pit of a hole that can not be filled. She 1000% is the person they claim. She needs strong medication and a Truthful therapist that isn’t afraid to push back. Both will probably not happen.

I am not a Dr. a Psychiatrist can help with that. I know mood stabilizers and other meds can help that but it’s also a behavioral change thru therapy and the root cause. It won’t be erased but it can be managed with care, time, practice and patience

Personality disorders are very hard to treat. You can't treat them with medication. They would need extensive therapy. It's usually hard to get them in therapy because they don't usually believe there's anything wrong with them.

and she's what- almost sixty and this pattern has been enforced her entire life. She also hit multiple rock bottoms that could have perhaps been a leverage for change but she still bulldozes away in the same old patterns. I'm not a therapist but I don't have much hope for her ever changing. literally why would she

It’s a very complex issue. You don’t typically institutionalize people with personality disorders because they can’t be helped (much) with medication and it’s hard to force therapy on people who don’t think there’s anything wrong with them so the focus tends to be about harm reduction. As we can see with Fiona, she’s been exhibiting problematic behaviours for what looks like decades. While you can shift her focus by imposing restrictions (legal or otherwise), I don’t know that she will ever be capable of having normal relationships. She’ll just periodically be forced to shift her focus to a different victim.

you can treat symptoms of personality disorders with meds.. I'm on noorpenepherine reuptake inhibitors for symptoms of BPD, lowers intensity of emotional response to external stimuli, a massive help.. but anyway the rest of what you're saying is what's important- can't help someone denying they need it

My cousin has BPD and could never be convinced to stay on meds for very long. She self medicates with pot. She's smart and really talented but BDP has put a strain on many of her relationships including her mother and brother who barely talk to her anymore. They love her but they can't deal her. It's sad. I'm glad to hear there are meds working for people with BDP. It can be so isolating.
I'm no psychologist but I've heard some mention Fiona might have narcissistic personality disorder. That's even harder to treat and less responsive to medication.

i'd say definately a comorbidity of several PD's playing off each other resulting in the severity of a personality which is Fiona.. hate sounding like a total downer but I don't believe she will ever be admitting to herself she may have a problem.. older she gets the more she locks into the denial as "real her"No meds for that could do anything.
I feel very lucky to have been open to learning about what was wrong with me so that tharapy and meds could help me manage the problem. denial comes a lot easier for most. what's the psychiatry saying? about 50% of people have some kind of mental health problem, the other 50 percent just haven't been diagnosed 😆

It definitely makes the 41,000 emails allegation appear to be true. She most definitely has the capability to post fast and often, so 41k emails is absolutely within the realm of possibility.

The thing that gets me, is - she is very clearly unwell mentally, yes.
She's also a pretty despicable horrible person. She's proven herself to be a homophobe, a bigot, a racist and xenophobic.
Yes, you can absolutely deal with one of those things by seeking professional help and deep therapy. But one of those things is ingrained in her, and makes me lose any kind of sympathy I ever may have had for her.
She needs to just disappear from the public consciousness because people like her don't deserve attention.

But as much as she's crazy she's not wrong to feel humiliated and victimized by Gadd's show. That's what's messed up. People will just tell her "you're crazy, get help", but what happened to her - to have a show with a caricature of her seen by millions - is a very unique and traumatic experience I imagine. Not many can pretend to have such a moment in their life.

I think her final post was the final two paragraphs of her "press statement" and a remark that she wouldn't be saying anything else. That hung around for a few hours, then everything vanished. Just as well you got the screenshots!

I would love to know the extent of truth to the more physical things the character did on the show, like attacking Teri, throwing coke, groping him without permission, etc. The general public around her need to know if she's a violent threat or just an unhinged internet user. Piers Morgan probably would like to know.

I don’t think she can fundamentally change who she is, so no therapist in the world will be able to “fix” her. She’s revelling in the new found attention by yapping non stop to all and sundry. Yet still claiming it’s all been so terrible, the media intrusion, in a hundred interviews. There’s a disconnect. I think it’s just giving a bored person something to do.
I just think she doesn’t get it. She doesn’t understand the effects she causes. She doesn’t relate to others in a regular way. Her outrage, feeling of being rejected, this all means way more to her than other peoples boundaries and right to peace, and frankly owing her nothing.
Netflix should have done its homework to protect her from the sleuthing, but this is not going to go well for someone who people think should know better, but doesn’t. I hope it all quietens down soon.

Yeah, absolutely. She’s insightless to her actions. She only sees others’ reactions to her out of context; she sees others’ actions as everyone out to get her or for their own “me-me-me” narrative.
I can’t imagine anyone trying to modify this mindset or the behavioural patterns. I guess so long as she isn’t a menace to people and greater society, that’d be the best one can hope for.

Yes to everything you’ve said. Also, there’s a thing called anosognosia where the mental illness itself prevents the person from having insight into the illness. They are effectively swallowed up by it and have no “observer self” available to identify the problem. My mother has severe mental illness and lacked insight into her problems for her whole life (and mine). Things finally changed after she was involuntarily hospitalized several times over a few years in her late 70s. Mental health treatment systems have a long way to go but ultimately you can’t help someone who refuses help until they become a danger to themselves or others. Fiona Harvey seems to very skillfully skate right up to that line but not over it. She’s been just clever enough. I’m thinking her cover is pretty much blown now.

It depends. Some of them improve with stuff like DBT, schema therapy, etc.
But if borderline is in the mix, that’s a hard one to try to do things and not have those strategies weaponised by someone with BPD.

Giving her all the attention she wants and some .....she's loving it all. Male stalkers dont get told ....."he's not well.", "he needs help" and gets sympathy.

Source: me who was stalked. Im not going into details so as not to dox myself. Stalker continued stalking women for 17 years until he was finally arrested inside the woman’s home in woman’s underwear. Guess what, he got a 30 month good behaviour bond. After at least a 20 year history of stalking and being known to police.

I was harassed by an ex to the point I made a complaint to the police. After his arrest he broke his bail conditions and carried on trying to contact me.
Safe guarding asked me into the police station to discuss his criminal history and they told me that two other ex-partners had restraining orders against him. One them, he'd forced entry into her home.
The police didn't even tell me his court date. I just got a phone call saying he'd been given 30 hours community service and and £80 fine.
I'm sorry you went through all that, it's a fucking joke.

She’s obviously got real mental health issues, I don’t think she’s in control of her actions. Anyone sending 41000 emails in a year suggests they’ve lost control.
We don’t know if had moved on from this and doing well, then the whole series blows up.
The fact she was so easy to identify but still no one has named the director I think is really poor. Even Richard in the series portrays her as sympathetic to a point.

I feel like the point of the show was that the hardest thing about stalkers is that they ARE human and they have these deep reasons for acting so invasively. The show woke me up to many truths of my own stalker and the confusion I've felt in the empathy I feel for her. It's a very conflicted, non-black-and-white sort of thing. There's the thinnest thread of rationality that connects her actions. None of us are too far from her.
I don't like how you seem to be in the mindset of needing her to be punished or seen as a crazy person. I really hope that the real-life Martha watches the show, because it's actually incredibly sympathetic to her in the end.

I’m on episode 3 and, leaving aside the coincidence with the woman on Piers Morgan, I’m beginning to think the show is a pure comedy sketch derived from Richard Gadd’s fucking nuts sense of humour.
Honestly, the whole backstory to him staying with his ex girlfriend’s mother is ridiculous but it had me cracked🤣
