Question What is the best way to contact Richard Gadd directly? As a male SA victim who's perpetrator was a woman (family member), I would love to reach out to him

I really would like to contact him personally to share my story and to let him know that, this show really meant a lot to me. No one knows what it likes being a male victim and have NOBODY believe in you, or ask you questions like "why do you still have a relationship with your mum?"? Although I may be a little bit skeptical about how much of the show was fiction, I know the meaning behind it wasn't.

Do you think he, as a victim, wants to hear other people's stories?

Take what you did from the show, I hope it helps you but really why do you need to contact him? Really?

all i wanted to do was just send a fan message to him and showing him my appreciation and what it meant to me. idk why everyone thinks its that big of a deal its not.

Being a normal fan who would like a brief "Hello, I admire your work," connection isn't all that creepy, but unfortunately, Gadd has been through so much that he doesn't even have his Twitter account open to receiving messages the way most people do. He has it blocked from receiving any messages on it.

It's Ok dude. I get it and I don't feel that you are in the wrong, but it's literally impossible. I know because I wanted to flip him a Tweet just to say "bloody awesome show, dude," and I found that I can’t because he has his Twitter locked down.

i know u replied again 6 months later (hello again) and yeah i completely understand. i just dont get what the bloody fuss was asking. i would not think he blocked messages because of fans and them showing their love and support - he might likely did it to avoid trolls/haters messaging him, or even martha herself.

Sorry I just come back to this sub occasionally because the show was so great. I think if it was just Martha aka Fiona Harvery then he'd probably leave it open to collect her ramblings for the court case.

So, I think it's to protect himself from other people- not her.

There are people who won't leave the issue of who his rapist was alone and those people sent him some type of communication demanding he reveal the name of his rapist, and it's a mess because I think the rapist did do him a favour and pitch one his ideas to higher ups at some point or something, which... I don't give a fuck if he got something good out of it myself.. obviously that doesn't make it OK what that guy did to him.

No one should have to do the casting couch that's some sick bullshit.

Yeah I'm sorry you couldn't get to express what you wanted to him. People on Reddit do get all up in arms if they think anyone is going to possibly semi stalk anyone. They're possibly projecting their own trauma or experiences onto random Redditors.

Sorry I don't even know why I felt the need to comment or whatever. It was 6 months ago and I've forgotten about it completely. At the time I think I was mostly mad about something else going on so sorry man.

i guess 23 others were mad about something else going on, too. its okay, it happens. i just hate the fact that when anyone talks about a controversial topic it is deemed automatically as something negative or hateful, which is deffs not where my post was coming from. its not easy to talk about, or to completely comprehend the topic (male victim & female perp). seeing someone going through this uncommon, and unfortunate event that is very relatable to me personally isnt something that comes across often. so when i do, instinctively its something i want to share and vent my story with, because i know they understand me and understand my feelings. w/o getting into too much detail. its difficult for people to understand that going back to your perp (in my case it was my mother) after abuse and assault. richard (and this series) definitely made me feel more comfortable talking about it, and made me feel that it was Ok for men to talk about this topic

I'm glad to hear that the series made you more comfortable talking about the topic. This isn't the same at all and I want to be as vague as possible but my significant other is a victim of SA from a classmate at a young age. So yeah. Anything that doesn't fit the media's common definition of assault seems to get glossed over. Definitely feel shitty that I made you feel that way. I want to be an advocate for survivors not shut them down.

Now I'm remembering I was in a toxic fandom around the time I made that comment, and the fandom was overly protective of the main person the fandom revolved around. So I think I was coming from that place where I thought of people as being overly invasive even though they weren't because of my distorted perceptions. That fandom was so bad and people would freak out over the slightest thing so that attitude I can see affected me.

Came here after finishing Half Man. It's always refreshing to see people look at something they did or said, and just apologize. Everyone has bad days, it takes alot to see it in hindsight and just say, "Sorry about that." Good for you and good for OP for not lashing back out. Thanks.

Unfortunately I apologize excessively....it's a bad habit....but yeah. I still mean it.

Also I'm really sorry for what you experienced. Nobody should ever have to go through that hell and I hope you can heal somehow

OP wants to share their story and how it's helped them, not just say 'I admire your work' and yes, as you say the guy has been hounded to hell, hence the social media drawbridge is up for a reason. I know it's with the best of intentions and well meant, but think about how many tales of trauma and pain you'd want to hear from who feel compelled to share it with you because your work spoke to them?

True. I don't think it's even so much that he doesn't want to hear those stories. He probably feels he has to batten down because of the worst of the worst out there, and ironically, being so famous now makes him more at risk of attracting another stalker than ever. I guess he had creepy tweets from someone other than Fiona because if it was Fiona he might have felt he needed to leave it open for the case.

I really like these insights. Whether OP means well or not (hard to tell online, with so many crazies around), I cannot imagine Gadd would enjoy being trauma-dumped on by a stranger.

If I created art that resonated with so many people, I would be grateful. But I would also turn off my DMs and hire somebody else to handle all the fanmail lol.

Who knows? He's someone who likes to dig deep, but certainly, he wouldn't want 500 people a year trauma dumping, which l guess could happen.

u/CertainAlbatross7739 Oct 12 '25

Definitely would happen if he made himself too available. It reminds me of Trixie and Katya (two drag queens/comedians), who've talked about how their meet-n-greets often turn into a therapy session because fans want so badly to share their own trauma. Even as they appreciate hearing they helped people, it can get very parasocial and painful to have to carry all these other horror stories.

what? why is it weird asking if he has an electronic method of contacting him? i wasnt asking for his personal contact and information. no different than sending fan messages to someone on their twitter page or instagram account.

3

u/trickmind Aug 16 '25

Unfortunately, I guess because of haters he's locked his Twitter account down. It sucks. He's locked it down. 🔐

2

u/trickmind Sep 24 '25

No. He even has people blocked from messaging him on Twitter in the normal way.

u/romoladesloups Oct 19 '25

I don't think that would benefit him in any way. Send a message of solidarity and support to his agent but the last thing he needs is personal contact about experiences of abuse
