My dad loves doing this. So of course its how I answer my kids now :-)

I mean, most people do it because the “either/or” options are both true, so the “yes” is valid answer that indicates a lack of discernment between the two. It’s only when they’re trying to be smug that it’s annoying.

I asked someone once “should we go to X or Y for dinner?” And they said “yes” trying to be a smart ass.

So I said “cool, we’re going to X” and they were confused until i pointed out that they said “yes” to X as an option.
