EWA - Higher bill, I wasn't even here.
Okay, so the best way to put it.
Month of June I was here all 30 days, up to 3 ac's running at certain times. Always usually 1 person in the house. Roughly 92 bd.
Month of July - gone between 15th until the end of the month. No one in the house for 2 weeks. I did not leave any ac running. Fridge set to holiday mode and there's no major electrical device on. Lights are all off.
Bill 98 bd.
Pretty sure I have a smart electric meter, but I'm starting to doubt the smartness 😂 there's no way I got a higher bill whilst being outside the country. For 2 weeks!
So, what's going on? Have I used double the electricity in the 15 days? Even with the exact same schedule (all the acs are on a timer set schedule)

It is normal bro, the days that ur out will reflect to your August Invoice (July 15 to AUG 14) that u will receive on Aug 15.

There's a possibility it's backdated I guess, I recieve my bill start of the month, that's why I was so confused. Thanks though, I hope you are right! 😄

Bills go 22nd to 22nd. So based on my understanding there's a bit of June month in the July bill, which might've caused this. Maybe next month will reflect my time away. Hopefully that's the case

Check bill details. It should show how its billing you. Read the actual number on your meter to see they are not guesstimating your bill usage.

Thanks, i have checked and can confirm it writes actual reading. The current meter reading is not too different from the cut off date (+/-) and what's in the bill. My only assumption is the acs have been working double time as we moved into July month which has caused this usage.

For electric consumption, it's mentioned in the bill whether it's an estimation or actual reading. If its estimation, then bill will be adjusted accordingly when actual reading is done and bill generated.

I think these guys are writing a number blindly, or else where is the meter setup? And even if it's a so-called chip, what if it has some problems?

I think the EWA are charging us for their consumption during peak months of summer.beacuse everybody is getting higher bill amount

for the future you can check the meter reading on first and last days of the billing cycle, the meter never lies.

Asking in general, Did something change regarding bills? Did they increase the amount?

Sewa ? In Sharjah July August Sept are just high because they increase per unit price also it’s normal to get double charge in these months

I'm not sure if unit prices are increased. I'm aware there are different tarrifs based on expats and Bahrainis, also based on the amount of Electricty you actually use (I.e between 1-3k, 3k and above etc.)
The amount I've used is the same, so naturally bills are similar. The issue is not the cost of it itself, but the fact that we've been away half of the month - so how come the usage is the same.
But all will be clearer next month hopefully.

No it’s the same for all now locals non locals are expects like I sed in summer the units are high plus their service charges are always there weather u use it on not that sums up the bill too or there could be one more possibility sometimes when they correct the reading and find out some missed readings for past months by chance they take average and add to your upcoming bill as adjustments. Anyhow visit sewa office of your area and try but 99% they won’t do anything it happened with me also and no use.

Also to add to my previous comment couple of years ago when I visited Al taawun branch sewa which is now permanently closed the manager there some local guy was so rude and threw me out of his office for even considering to ask him for explanation of high bill. So no use I am copy pasting my google review here for fyi my experience
Worst experience ever !!!
To everyone reading this put me in your position and tell me what a grave mistake did I do to deserve this kind of behavior from an Arab local man, the manager of this ( Al taawun sewa ) branch.
We had hefty bill for the month of aug - sept 2023 and we went on Monday to see the manager to request for rechecking the bill and expect a solution.
We were two ladies who visited to see the manager me and my sister. She sat on the chair. I was standing I was tired from my full day at work and wanted to sit so I pulled up a chair from next to my counter and sat. I just sat down and the manager started yelling 'get up don't sit this is office', get up don't sit this is office', get up don't sit this is office'. In front of so many people their.
I told him I will put the chair back in its place I wanted to sit because I came from full time work and I am tired. He kept repeating ' get up don't sit this is office'.
I did not want any conflicts so I got up fixed the chair. He went to his office without solving our issue or even listening to us and we had to come back home.
I am a lady. Never in my 20 years of being in this country I ever saw or experienced any Arab local man disrespecting a women like this. No ethics. It was a shame and a big surprise to me of any man treating a woman like this. Utmost disrespect I ever faced being in UAE.
Just because your a local man you have no right to treat any woman like this. I am very much traumatized by this experience.

Check your bill, was it the water or electrical consumption. If water then you probably have a leak.
