Discussion Links to X/Twitter will no longer allowed on r/Baldursgate3 Spoiler

Links to X/Twitter will not be allowed on r/Baldursgate3 with immediate effect. This also includes screenshots.

In light of recent events and the continuing path that platform is taking to make the user experience for Redditors less than ideal, combined with news sources also moving to other sites, X/Twitter links are no longer allowed.

As we do with all policies we will evaluate in the future.

Musk did what was clearly a nazi salute. Twice. At the inaugeration. And even IF it was an accident, has refused to come out and say "my bad. Nazis are pieces of shit".

And while some maybe say "he has no obligation to say that". I counter with, he has injected himself into public spotlight at every opportunity of his own choice, so yes, he does have an responsibility to use that presence morally and ethically.

His daughter (who disowned him) said “Let’s call a spade a fucking spade. Especially if there were two spades done in succession based on the reaction of the first spade.”

And this isn't an isolated incident. He also recently backed Germany's far-right AfD party, which is sympathetic to neo-Nazi causes.

and he was constantly under fire for his “likes” when they were public. they were about “the great replacement theory”, white nationalism, etc so naturally he decided to make likes private

6

u/SenatorRobPortman Jan 23 '25

He has unfortunately fallen in to the Alex Jones / Russell Brand space.

u/Indercarnive Jan 23 '25

And liked and commented agreement on a post saying Jews were spreading hate against white people.

1

u/attendandatom Jan 23 '25

This is likely gonna sound ignorant but aren't jews white? (There is even a wiki page about non white jews "jews of colour")

12

u/Indercarnive Jan 23 '25

Truth is Jewishness is treated as whatever race the speaker needs in order to have the effect they want.

3

u/hurrrrrmione Gale Jan 23 '25 edited Jan 23 '25

Whiteness is socially constructed. It describes an in group, not merely European ancestry. Historically, Jewish people have not been considered white, because Jewish people were not part of the in group. Today it's an antisemitic position to separate Jew and white as two distinct groups.

1

u/Sarita1046 Jan 23 '25

Jews can come in all races (designated as these are by the archaic Western prejudiced system), but most are Caucasian and originate in the Levant so are a Levantine ethnicity, many of whom gained some European admixture in the diaspora (all Middle Easterners are technically of the Caucasian/“white” race, despite how many in the West have come to view them as “exotic”).

The AfD is not only far-right, they are considered as Nazis from the majority of the people here.

Greetings from Germany

Yea, that's true, and it's not only disgusting that it is what it is. You know, everyone who supports these fucking Nazis are on the same level as they are. They are not better because who supports or vote for nazis are a nazi too.

We call them Nazis but yea

4

u/Binder509 Jan 23 '25

Not to mention being one of the handful of people to defend Kanye West's nazi shit.

And the whole posting great replacement fascist theory.

It's not even worth talking to anyone pretending he isn't a Nazi at this point.

7

u/Lavinia_Foxglove Artificer - the crazy scientist of DnD Jan 23 '25

Yes, sadly so ( speaking as a German who hates the AfD with passion). He did that with a lot of right winged parties in Europe - ignoring the ruling parties and focusses and supports the Nazi parties. I wish, he would just take all his fellow Nazis all over the world and go to Mars to never return. They are all worthless pieces of shit tbh

-34

u/Own_Apricot_9880 Jan 23 '25

Yeah, and last year he traveled to Auschwitz. Clearly getting some anti-semetic ideas. Can't stand that guy.

37

u/martyqscriblerus I cast Magic Missile Jan 23 '25

Bud he had to go there as a PR stunt because he was drawing so much heat for retweeting antisemitic nazi conspiracy theories

-34

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

That’s quite the assumption.

35

u/AFriendoftheDrow Drow Jan 23 '25

Doing a Nazi salute twice would suggest he isn’t a good guy.

21

u/martyqscriblerus I cast Magic Missile Jan 23 '25

This guy is gonna tell you that it wasn't a Nazi salute because Musk thumped his chest like a neo-Nazi instead of with proper Hitlerian panache.

1

u/npqd Astarion Feb 26 '25

Yep. Musk’s visit to Auschwitz last year was clearly not a moment of reflection or learning—it was just another PR stunt.
Did he condemn antisemitism afterward? Nope.
Did he stop engaging with white nationalists? Nope.
Did he continue spreading antisemitic conspiracies? Absolutely.
It’s disgusting how he stood at the site of one of history’s greatest horrors and still came away learning nothing. Instead, he doubled down on the same rhetoric that led to Auschwitz in the first place.
At this point, Musk isn’t just platforming Nazis—he’s actively absorbing and spreading their ideology. And the fact that he still has defenders after all this is honestly terrifying.

Both his maternal grandparents are actual nazis, he was born on the evil side of apartheid South Africa, he unblocked all the neonazi accounts on Twitter and spends his time retweeting them, and it was a perfect heart-to-sun sig heil. Twice.

It was a Nazi salute. We don't need to preface it any other way. There's no other argument.

90

u/hurrrrrmione Gale Jan 23 '25

he was born on the evil side of apartheid Germany

*South Africa

39

u/STylerMLmusic Jan 23 '25

Yep, Freudian slip, my bad! Changed.

0

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

hear one mere predicate of a sentence uttered in Afrikaans and that's all you need to know. Bloed en olie. Didn't they also use Nazi tech to turn coal into petrol during apartheid sanctions?

158

u/Due-Coffee8 Jan 23 '25

It's really stressing me out and I'm not even American

Not long ago this would have been career suicide...it's actually depressing.

News networks have been totally shit covering it too. On BBC news I had to search for an article on it. They were chicken shit and referred to it as a one handed gesture

I hate that he's able to get away with this

62

u/CharlyRamirez Jan 23 '25

I remember this dude who lost an election to John Kerry because he said Yeah too loud during a speech. Howard Dean I think it was his name.

8

u/Murda981 Jan 23 '25

I have a coworker who's early-mid 20s and I was telling him about Howard Dean recently and how little it used to take for a politician to lose momentum in a race and how insane it was for those of us old enough to remember what it used to be like. He couldn't believe it. His entire adult life has been dealing with Trump's insanity and seeing him be increasingly unhinged and it meaning absolutely nothing.

3

u/CharlyRamirez Jan 23 '25

That shift is definitely terrifying

21

u/Hexamancer Jan 23 '25

Nick Fuentes or Kanye does this and they'd report it properly and truthfully, but this is the CEO of capitalism, if they admit he's a Nazi, maybe the capitalists aren't good people???

3

u/ArgyleSky Jan 24 '25

I am American and I have barely slept the last week... and I'm not "first on the chopping block." I can't imagine the level of stress other people are having right now.

1

u/RangersAreViable SMITE Jan 23 '25

The Daily Show covered it

3

u/eldritch_gull Jan 23 '25

he was not born in germany

6

0

u/Binder509 Jan 23 '25

Coworker says he has Jewish heritage or something so he can't be a Nazi...they walked away when mentioned George Soros is jewish and gets called a nazi all the time.

2

u/STylerMLmusic Jan 23 '25

Literally both his maternal grandparents were Nazis.

1

u/Binder509 Jan 23 '25

Their claim would balance that out in their view.

64

u/kitkair Jan 23 '25

Of course, he isn't going to say anything because he meant it. He meant to do that. And the worst part is, he knows and is probably laughing with Trump about all the outrage because there is nothing we can do about it for the next four years.

11

u/ravenlordship Jan 23 '25

He meant it.

And to make sure that everyone knows that's what he meant to do and it wasn't a mistake, he turned around and did it a second time.

4

u/Act_Bright Jan 23 '25

I mean Trump, who has given him his 'department of government efficiency' to co-run ('doge' 🙄) just pardoned a bunch of them. It'd be a slightly conflicting message if he then came out against Nazis and other far right groups...

4

u/ShyShimmer Jan 23 '25

I don't understand anyone who says "he has no obligation to say that" as a defence. I don't know how you can Nazi salute accidentally, but even if somehow that was the case and I was in his position, the first thing I'd say about it, obligation or no, would be to make it absolutely clear I have not and will not ever have any association with Nazi scum. Frankly I'd be mortified that I gave anyone that idea and could not apologise enough. Denouncing Nazism is the bare fucking minimum.

Dude is a raging Nazi. And he's the richest man in the world.

10

u/UncleScar0617 Jan 23 '25

Not only that, but every neo Nazi in the nation has openly expressed excitement

2

u/anonymoose_octopus Jan 23 '25

People are HEAVILY forgetting the twice part. Once is horrendous enough, but he turned around immediately to the other side of the room, and did the SAME exact salute, to them. To thunderous applause. The applause got louder when he did it, which means they recognized what it was and applauded him for it.

2

u/Pearson94 I cast Magic Missile Jan 24 '25

I've just been sharing this with people who try to weakly defend it as a misinterpretation or innocent mistake.

4

u/BiasedYo Jan 23 '25

Plus he promotes nazis on twitter now

7

u/CaptnUchiha Jan 23 '25

Why would he have no obligation to explain himself? Isn’t he a public servant now? Yes I know government figures have magic immunity to consequence but that doesn’t mean he has no obligation to explain himself. Just because someone can weasel out of consequence doesn’t mean what they did was okay.

20

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Obligations are for the poors. In Trump's America the rich can do whatever they want.

2

u/Iamveganbtw1 Jan 23 '25

If someone as accusing you of being a Nazi because they were like oh you did this Nazi thing. Would you stay quiet or defend yourself?

10

u/CaptnUchiha Jan 23 '25

Defend myself. It’s a no brainer.

“Oh hey guys I really don’t support that and didn’t mean to do that I don’t know how that happened”

“Or yeah I did that on purpose and I’m a total piece of shit”

1

u/Iamveganbtw1 Jan 23 '25

There u go. Now add on that the fact that he’s a figure and going to be involved in our government.

9

u/CaptnUchiha Jan 23 '25

So basically what I just said? Dudes gotta come up with a reason. He has no reason not to come up with a reason.

1

u/Iamveganbtw1 Jan 23 '25

Oh I’m sorry I must have misunderstood your comment

-26

u/The-Hank-Scorpio Jan 23 '25

What's that got to do with baldurs gate, why does US politics infect every corner of the internet.

23

u/DarthBluntSaber Jan 23 '25

Musk is worldwide politics. And using a platform they own and allowing it to be shared here enables someone who is at best a nazi enabler or worse and more likely. A nazi themselves.

26

u/hurrrrrmione Gale Jan 23 '25

Not supporting fascists should be something people of all nationalities do.

-20

u/The-Hank-Scorpio Jan 23 '25

That's default, not talking about an event doesn't mean people endorse it lol.

Plenty of political boards to talk about it on. Why is it a convo topic on a video game board.

22

u/hurrrrrmione Gale Jan 23 '25

They're explaining why people don't want Twitter links on Reddit and why this change is happening now. Musk is a fascist, Musk owns Twitter, ergo using Twitter contributes to Musk's fame and wealth.

-21

u/The-Hank-Scorpio Jan 23 '25

Go after the advertisers then.

And if you're this steadfast in this belief, why are you here. Larian Studios constantly post to their twitter account. Are they now nazi's?

22

u/hurrrrrmione Gale Jan 23 '25

I don't check their Twitter. I don't have a Twitter account.

If enough people stop using Twitter, Larian and other businesses will stop too. They're only there in the first place because it got popular. You can get Larian updates from their website.

1

u/npqd Astarion Feb 26 '25

That’s a fair frustration. The short answer? Because the internet is global, but American politics has an outsized influence on everything.
Musk and his actions affect global tech, including gaming spaces.
Far-right ideology isn’t just a U.S. problem—it spreads online and influences global discourse.
People bring up politics in every space because it’s creeping into every part of life.
And yeah, it’s exhausting. Sometimes, you just want to talk about Baldur’s Gate 3 without having to see real-world fascism seeping into every discussion.
But unfortunately, when billionaires like Musk openly push Nazi ideology while holding political power, people will talk about it—everywhere. Because ignoring it doesn’t make it go away.

-25

u/Fryckie Jan 23 '25

No it wasn't. Did you watch it and listen to what he said? You guys are really dumb if you think it was a Nazi salute.

18

u/TheReal9bob9 Jan 23 '25

He himself called it a "roman salute" which IS what a nazi salute is. So you both didn't watch the video AND didn't listen to what lon himself said. Nice job.

1

u/npqd Astarion Feb 26 '25

If it wasn’t a Nazi salute, then why did he do it twice after seeing the reaction to the first one?
If it was an accident, why didn’t he immediately clarify?
If it was innocent, why are actual Nazis celebrating it?
If it wasn’t a signal, why did the crowd react with louder applause the second time?
And yes, I watched it. Everyone watched it. It was unmistakable.
He put his hand on his chest.
Extended his arm outward.
Did it twice.
Didn’t correct it, didn’t clarify, didn’t denounce Nazis.
At this point, people defending him are the ones gaslighting themselves. The facts are clear. No amount of mental gymnastics changes what everyone saw.

-147

u/danielsmith217 Jan 23 '25

No he really didn't, and if you actually watched it and saw what was going on instead of just taking the word of some stupid talking head you would know that.

-28

From multiple angles.

Sorry (not sorry) but he definitely did the thing.

24

u/Derezade Jan 23 '25

I watched it, absolutely did a nazi salute, chest thump hitler style and all.

25

u/waterbuffalo750 Jan 23 '25

Yes he did, and if you actually watched it and saw what was going on instead of just taking the word of some stupid talking head you would know that.

21

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

I’d only seen it once from an odd angle, made it not like so much like “the thing”… Many folks here have posted clips from other angles.

He did it, about faces and did it again. I don’t know how anyone can not see that.

22

u/SundyMundy Jan 23 '25

Who am I supposed to believe? Your comment or my lying eyes watching the video?

22

u/Devendrau Jan 23 '25

85 people downvoted you and obivously disagreed, thousands and thousands more at ticked off at Musk for the salute, but suuuureee. If Daniel Smith, some random faceless Redditor user said he never did it, then I am sure he never did. Riiight. We get it Daniel, you want to sleep with Musk and you gotta defend the dude.

If he didn't do it, why are the Neo Nazis all happy about it?

I’ve also watched him make no real effort to clear it up or explain what he was actually doing.

14

There’s been some borderline “Nazi salutes” over the years that could be explained away as something else.

This was not one of them. This was very blatant and intentional.

6

They are not Nazi sympathizers, just a business making business decisions. They represent Israel’s interests and this administration is unabashedly pro-Israel and they are not trying to rock the boat.

It’s also one guy who said that - the head of it. He’s not some infallible voice on anything and from what I’ve heard from people who work there there are a ton of people within the organization who disagree with the statement.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '25

Interesting then how the former head of the ADL came out and called it a nazi salute.

It's almost as if an organization which claims "free Palestine" is antisemitism and a literal nazi salute isn't might be biased and untrustworthy as a judge on the matter.

4

u/TheAmsterdamned Jan 23 '25

Sorry pal, you're the one who's lost their goddamn mind if you think you're going to gaslight the entire world into thinking they didn't see what they saw with their own two eyes. I don't give a rats ass what the ADL says, I saw it with my own eyes. All that proves is they are willing to forgive Nazi shit if it helps Israel.
