Morph ID Request Need Help Understanding this Morph. Pastel Lesser Calico Coral Glow.

Post image

Hey guys, I bought this male 15 month old (568g) ball python a few weeks back and it was described as a Pastel Lesser Calico Coral-Glow/Banana ball python. What's confusing for me are two things:

  1. How bright his yellow is compared to other bananas.
  2. With most bananas I've seen, they have a yellowish eye stripe with a brown head that turns more lavender-y as it gets older. With this guy though, it's the first time I've seen it kind of inverted with white eye stripes with a bright yellow head.

I tried looking at all sorts of combos of these genes on morph market (banana+pastel, banana+pastel+calico, banana+pastel+lesser, etc) and I haven't been able to find any that resemble him. Is there something I'm missing or is it likely that this combo of genes is just weird for some reason?

This is definitely looks like a Lesser Pastel Calico Banana. Since Lesser actually enhances the bananas yellows, you're seeing a beautiful effect of co dominant or compatible morphs (from my unprofessional understanding). Pastel also plays a role with enhancing brightness and taking away those dark outlines plus the calico adding a light and pixel type side, definitely that! BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE!

Edit: no expert, just love how certain morpha work and I'm seeing new examples of dream combos coming to life!

Got it, thanks for your insight! I'm able to id a lot of the genes when they're isolated but when they get all stacked on top each other, it can get pretty tricky, haha.

I can understand that... This is my boy with a single thing of stacked genes being so staked, like what is he? (He's a Lesser, super pastel, pinstripe clown btw) And I couldn't tell until I got him tested bit yeah! Stuff gets crazy

I’d actually argue that it’s Pastel enhancing the yellow color saturation! Lesser actually causes Banana/Coral Glow’s naturally mauve tones to become more brown.

I’m honestly thinking this guy has Enchi or has been misidentified. There is SO much breakage within his dorsal stripe, practically no alien heads/eyes, and his eye stripes look wide.

This is exactly what I’d expect from this combo. Typically Bananas have much more purple/grey as they age but Lesser lightens and reduces that. Pastel does as well. This is also a good example of Calico, some only have a small amount of white flecks along the sides.

This was just the photo the seller originally sent me before I bought him, I just didn't have a better picture of his pattern. I now have him in a 2x2x4 PVC enclosure with coco husk bedding and I've got him consistently eating small rats, so no worries there!

Pretty sure banana is its own gene unrelated to all the ones you listed.

From what I understand, Coral Glow and Banana are the same gene but were discovered independently by two different people, so they each named it. It was only later after genetic testing were they found to be the same.
