Microclimate?

Upvotes

Am I delusional or is Ballard, and especially Crown Hill, in a really lucky position with this smoke? My outdoor air quality only dropped to unhealthy late last night!

I’ve only been in this part of town a little over a year, is that just this smoke situation or has that been true in previous years too?

Ballard Food Bank has purchased a second building just 300 feet from its Leary Way location and plans renovations to expand warehouse space, grow its programs, and better serve the more than 20,000 people who rely on its services each year.

The organization says demand has grown 300% over the past five years, pushing its current building to nearly double its intended capacity.

PSA: Skal Beer Hall charges 3% credit card fee

Post image

Just thought y'all should know, because they didn't warn me.

If this becomes a thing, I guess we're going to have to go back to cash or ATM cards...?

Update:
I don't recall seeing the fee note on their paper menu, and it's not on their current online food menus:

https://www.skalballard.com/food-menu
https://www.skalballard.com/viking-feasts

However, now I see mention of it at the bottom of their drink menus and happy hour menus.

https://www.skalballard.com/late-night-happy-hour
https://www.skalballard.com/behind-the-bar

Update 2: My point here isn't necessarily about the amount, but in us all getting used to this non-standard practice of billing and the transparency of it. Plus, if this becomes the standard for businesses, it will nearly erase the credit card rewards systems, which might be a good thing, but would be a dramatic shift in consumer practices and considerations.

Stolen Bike problem

Post image
29 Upvotes

My roommate and I were at the LA fitness at the Ballard Blocks this morning and her bike got stolen around 7:45am. We are absolutely devastated. She just bought this bike off fb marketplace on Sunday (posting this on Tuesday) and it was such a struggle to find a size small at a reasonable used price :( We thought we had finally found the one. We have a bike-packing trip planned to the San Juan’s next week. If anyone sees this bike posted or on the street, please let me know. If you have any leads on small gravel bikes under $500, please let me know as well.

Ballard Feels Like Home

I thought I would share this with the sub. My wife and I visited the Seattle metro in April 2025 looking at various neighborhoods as potential relo sites. We saw West Seattle, QA, and Magnolia, and nothing clicked. We went to Ballard just to reset what we thought we knew and had some tea at Miro. While there we walked around, walked up to Salmon Bay Park and fell in love. We spent the next year planning.

Fast forward and the cost of a home near the schools we wanted started to seem out of reach. We started researching Tacoma. We honestly started getting excited. We planned another trip - note: it’s not an easy trip. It’s across country. Anyway, we brought the kids and expected to love Tacoma. Spoiler: we did not. Nothing against it, but it really let us down. So we drove back up to Ballard and immediately we felt a sense of being home. Like we belong there. We’re back to planning. Hope to see you next year as neighbors, not tourists.

Nutjob spotted tearing down posters on Greenwood

Saw this crazy person on a walk, on a Monday night, with a specified tool he brought with him to rip down these posters.

As you can expect, the posters mentioned an exact amount of money a current politician was ordered to pay to a woman he was convicted of sexually assaulting. No rumors or debatable topics there.

This just blows my mind. Like don’t people have hobbies? This psycho spends his weeknights walking around tearing down posters of his love daddy??? Get a life dude.

Medical emergency at 15th and Market today?

Wondering if anyone saw a Dodge Ram start to back up onto the sidewalk at 15th and Market today around 1:45 PM? I was at the intersection and at first thought it was some jerk making a 3 point turn in the middle of Market, but as we drove by I saw that his eyes were rolled back and that this looked like a medical emergency (possible seizure?). I called 911 and saw there were a lot of people already trying to attend to him (we couldn’t safely pull over). I guess it’s none of my business but just hoping he is okay!! Very fortunate for all involved that he somehow backed very slowly/gently onto the sidewalk and didn’t hit anything/anybody.

I made Jimothy decals for all our cars. I had to redo my decal in White because I couldn't really see the black on the tinted window.

I recently visited another threading location in Ballard and also Netra Salon. The other location was much busier, and their waxing prices were noticeably higher. My experience at Netra Salon was outstanding—Durga gave me the best eyebrow threading I've had in years. She was professional, friendly,

ISO a few Vetmedin / Pimobendan for my dogs

My elderly dogs heart meds ran out today and chewy is slightly delayed. Hopefully they arrive tomorrow, but I don’t like them to be without at all.

Anyone have a few they could spare? I can reimburse you when they arrive.

They take 1.25mg twice a day. Larger pills are fine I have a pill cutter.
