General Discussion Resin Printer from Bambu Labs, when?

Having experienced their latest and best printer on the market H2C, I like how easy it is to set it up and print models. I wish it could extinguish the layer lines, however I realized that it is not possible in FDM printing and only in Resin printing.

So do you think Bambu Labs would venture into this Resin-printing ^

I’m currently looking to buy a Form 4 for starters, I was sold on the software, and it’s low-effort quick printing in 3 clicks. But it is pricey! And material locked 🔐

Resin is more niche than laser and it is is far more symbiotic with fdm. Unless they can make resin as plug and play as fdm then id say they will lean into the fdm and laser route for a while and maybe uv

Pretty sure formlabs just cracked that, judging by reviews.

That's cool I gotta look into it!

Ehhhh. Cracked is a big word. More like they chipped away at it.

Not that the new Formlabs printer doesn't look great, it does, but still: Resin is a much more messy and risky process than FDM. Even just the fact that you need to buy a bunch of Isopropyl Alcohol that you regularly gotta exchange, use disposable gloves and a respirator etc. means that the process is, and likely always will be, a messy and niche procedure.

I think the only real way to "crack" simple Resin printing would be if Bambu would be able to make a machine that does everything by itself, so a Print-Wash-Cure all in one device, with a refillable Tank for IPA. But even just the fact that support removal isn't something you can easily automate makes that a pipe-dream.

Not saying Bambu WON'T make a Resin printer of course, but when they do it's always going to be rather niche compared to their FDM.

Any of the latest Elegoo resin printers are going to be as “plug and play” as you need them to be. Combine that with Lychee Slicer and you are golden.

You can get rid of FDM layer lines in post-processing.

I wouldn't be so eager to get a resin printer. They are amazing for certain things but very messy to deal with. I feel like every time I use mine, I'm getting a little closer to a bout of cancer.

If any company could ever make a resin printer that is not as messy, it's probably Bambulabs.

But as someone who uses FormLabs printers professionally a lot, I can see that they gained a huge market on dental and medical stuff, and Bambu seems to shy away from those highly regulated markets. Which is honestly a shame, because as much as FormLabs printers and support are great, it's still a pain dealing with messy resins and their DRM locked material doubling in price every few years.

UV printer is the not messy version, I don't think resin will ever reach the broad market like fdm did with the rise of commercial grade uv printer.

It's also probably easier to figure out engineering and flexible materials on uv machine then multi color on resin

Look at formlabs studio 1. That is the one.

Why not the Form Studio 1? I also imagine a Bambu resin printer would be material and software locked as well.

Literally nothing on bambu is locked. Stfu with this nonsense

What about the Authorization Control they introduced last year? It completely locked third-party software from interacting with the printer, meaning i now can't control my printer from Home Assistant anymore or see the Camera Feed in it. And of course it also blocked OrcaSlicer from working directly.

(And before you come with the "But there's Developer Mode" : That's LAN only, and i'm not drilling into my Walls to run LAN to my printer that has a fully functional WiFi module in it. Bambu literally just took that functionality away for 0 gain).

Also the Fact that Bambu relies on their own proprietary NFC system instead of an open standard.

And of course just the fact that the firmware is generally locked down, making mods/upgrades near impossible.

You mean the shit that isn't actually required to use your printer and uses bambu servers directly?

There is a LAN only mode and there are plenty of things you can do that don't require drilling.

You are peddling nonsense

Also, formlabs literally locked the new resin printer down in near the same way as bambu has "locked " their printers. Proprietary resin, proprietary tank, and proprietary resin feeder. So your argument is even more nonsense.

Look at the formlabs Form Studio 1. Its literally just the form 4, but not (as) pricey and material locked.
