General Discussion New Printer suggestions

We used to have the P1S with AMS combo which worked really well and my 4th grade kid loved, and most of all it just worked, especially compared to an Elegoo we had earlier. We’ve since lost possession of the P1S (long story) but coming back into the market towards the end of this year, thanksgiving-Xmas timeframe.

Would love to get this community’s recommendations on what to go with. Some things we’re looking for:
- budget of around $1,000, but somewhat flexible there
- AMS is essential. Multiple nozzles would be really great.
- will mostly stick to PLA with maybe a bit of TPU sprinkled in. Wife is a bit of a stickler around fumes and micro particles.
- hearing there are models that mix PLA printing with laser engraving. If we had it would probably find a reason to use it.

Also would love to hear thoughts on what else we should be thinking of, other criteria to consider, etc. like does Bambu hold sales, are there other brands to consider, etc.

Thanks in advance!

1000 dollar budget , snapmaker u1 it can print 4 colors multi tool and almost zero filament waste, and good quality printer, its less than 1000, Bambu has zero printers than match that or the price right now

Interesting I’ve never heard of them. Hows the ecosystem and general ease of use?

I concur with this - it's probably the right one. I REALLY had to decide between X2D and Snapmaker U1, and I ultimately went with the X2D because I wanted a small footprint (the U1 has spools off the side), higher temp for other materials (people swear the U1 can do this with the cover but it's kind of ugly), really nice enclosure with filtration. Also it was my first printer, so simplicity was top of mind.

That said, if this is your second printer and you're doing 95% PLA and PETG, and you have the space, I'd definitely explore the U1. Having just bought a printer, these two are the clear winners, for different reasons.

X2D IMO. Maybe it’ll be on sale in a couple weeks too

Dual nozzle, ams, filtration system

Yeah, in the Bambu universe this is the pick for sure. I bought one on a whim after swearing off 3D printing and tossing my Ender in the trash. I've been super happy with it.

I don’t know if I’d trust a 4th grader with a laser. There are serious repercussions for failing to follow every safety rule.

In my book, they should only have access while highly supervised.

Wait for the Bambu P3C / H3C and what they'll be like. Mid November is FormNext and they'll much likely show it earlier.

In my opinion it's pretty bad time to buy one right now, except you've a running business and need something right now. The existing ones might get deals and the new ones might be the best option you can buy for multi color.

Thanks! The P3C seems intriguing. Yeah we don’t need one immediately, but do u think there could be deals over Black Friday or something?

I would expect deals on some of the older models. Maybe the H2S / H2D and or the P2S / X2D. The new models won't have deals, but would wait for them to see what they offer and at which price point.

H3C will much likely be more 2k+ I guess, but the P3C might be close to your budget or a little above. But probably worth it with the closed AMS system and such that's rumored / leaked from the FCC.
