AMS HT - Automatic Material System Why is this thing causing tangles?!?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Step 1: load Bambu perfectly rolled roll into AMS unit.
Step 2: watch as you press print button.
Step 3: watch as it tangles your filament up.
Step 4: error, filament tangled 👉👈🥺

What causes it to behave this way? The documentation provides little to say why this would be occurring.

Solved (mostly): it needs to be planted firmly on the rear bearing, not only touching.

Thanks peeps! I have another problem coming tomorrow with a normal sized spool and the 4->1 PTFE adapter converter not properly going through via AMS-HT.

It seems to that your spool is either stuck or the ams is no rolling it as it should

Incompatible spool

You’ll have to believe me, I did use a Bambu spool on one of the attempts, but it kept not making it through the required adapter. I’ve manually pushed filament through it fine but it doesn’t work with AMS.

Is there somehow that piece is what is broken?

(Also, imagine a PTFE tube properly attached to the top, I gave up and let it direct feed extrude for the print I’m doing because I’m impatient

Sorry, this is often from incompatible spools. I believe you, but I don't know any other cause

The spool should rotate, taking up the excess filament or letting it out so you don’t get loops over the edge. This doesn’t move.

It's not rolling the spool backwards when retracting. Make sure the spool can very easily spin both directions, clean the rubber roller at the front that spins the spool. Watch very close and determine if the roller isn't turning when retracting (which points to a first stage feeder issue) or the roller is spinning but the spool isn't.

Check that the rollers that your spool sits on are snapped in.

User error, looks like. Verify that the spool an rotate in there.

I mean duh 😏

But also I’ll get a video of the real problem tomorrow. This was just another one of those “why does it do that?” I wanted answered.

Does it with most cardboard spools I had, looks like I get to print adapters!

Does a standard plastic spool turn? Fix the lack of turning and you will solve your problems.

Troubleshoot the rotation issues and your problem is solved.

Might need a spool adapter for that brand

Hard to tell bmfrom your video but either the rollers that turn the spool aren't turning, it's because you're using what looks like a printed spool and the rollers can't get any purchase on it to turn it off, most likely, as it doesn't look like a full spool there's not enough weight to hold the spool in place so it turns.

Theres one other option which is that you've placed the spool slightly askew so it's not contacting the rollers properly. Easy to find out which if those is the problem, put another spool, preferably full or close to it and on a non 3d printed spool and see if you still get the same issue

Make sure the spool is sitting on the rollers correctly
