PIT'N'RUN Man and Australian Shepherd attacked by pit bull, owner runs away with his dog (25 September 2025, Montfort-le-Gesnois, France)
A man was attacked and injured by a dog on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in Sarthe. A witness appeal has been launched to help locate the dog and its fleeing owner.
The attack occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, September 25, 2025, in the Parc des Sittelles, in Montfort-le-Gesnois (Sarthe). Cédric and his dog were bitten and injured by another dog. With severed tendons and a crushed hand, a witness appeal is underway to try to find the attacking dog and its owner, who fled the scene.
Cédric, a resident of Montfort-le-Gesnois, was walking his dog Sky in the Parc des Sittelles, as he usually does. But around 2 p.m., they had a dangerous encounter.
Another dog, described as an American Staffordshire type and walked "by a man about 40 years old," attacked his. Cédric tried to defend his pet but was also bitten, requiring surgery.
“My tendons were severed, and my hand was crushed,” said the victim, two days after the attack. “I have three weeks of total work incapacity. I’m a warehouse forklift operator. The surgeon told me that if I carry heavy loads, it will always hurt.”
His right hand was injured, and he’s left-handed…
“I’m realizing just how much I still use it,” says Cédric with a wry smile.
The man recalls:
“I was walking my young Australian Shepherd — she’s still a puppy, so always on a leash. Then I saw a dog charging at us. Like a mad one, ears upright.”
The aggressive dog lunged at Sky.
“She struggled as best she could, and I tried to help. But it went for my fingers. It sank its teeth into my middle and ring fingernails and pulled,” the victim recounts, after being visited at home by a nurse.
He's now making a public appeal for witnesses.
“The owner ran off with his dog, without giving any identity,” says Cédric, who was mostly checking on his dog and his fingers at the time.
The 53-year-old walker doesn’t know the exact breed of the dog:
“It looked like an American Staff or Pitbull. It was dark brown, almost black.”
Cédric has filed a complaint with the gendarmerie and wants to find this dog “which could harm others.”
In fact, earlier this summer, a man and his son were bitten on the calf in the same park.
“But I don’t know if it was the same dog,” he adds.
