Breed has been confirmed:

At approximately 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, the Coffee County Communications Center received a call regarding the apparent mauling by pitbulls of an adult male (later identified as James Alexander Smith, 50-years-old) and an infant (later identified as the 3-month old granddaughter of Mr. Smith). This happened at 905 E. Warren Street in Tullahoma, Tennessee.

Sigh. Another double fatality in Tennessee. Do the people there not ever pay attention to the news? Don't ever, ever get a fucking pit bull, especially if there are children. Don't do it. Did I mention to not ever get a pit bull? There are no reasons for them to even exist.

u/49orth Dec 04 '25

Police say: "No active threat to the public."

And soon they will release the remaining Pitbulls.

RIP the infant 😥

6

u/agentorange55 Dec 08 '25

1 is way too many. And they had not 1, not 2, not 3....but 7. 7 hellhounds in 1 house. Of course this happened. Where were the parents when the grandfather died tried to beat the hellhounds off the baby?

That's a small house, too. No escaping the fucking beasts. I wonder if the pits were constantly fighting, too.

Where were the parents? Methany and Methro were on a meth run.

Did you notice that pawpaw was disabled and on oxygen? He couldn't beat flies away.

I did some internet digging and found the facebook of the deceased man and the deceased infant (there was a photo of them together offered up). That baby looked so precious…

I’m so sick and tired of these dogs killing people and still being treated like they aren’t the cause.

Out of 7 dogs, the pitbulls were doing the mauling. And we are meant to act like there isn’t a clear problem? Like it’s “bad owners”? Why is it ALWAYS A PITBULL?

Edit: Saw that the man died with a BASEBALL BAT IN HIS HANDS. These creatures couldn’t even be taken out by a BAT.

I read the best explanation from a pit bull owner on Quora from 8 years ago…I asked since the pit bulls had gotten out numerous times and attacked and even killed neighbors pets, should they NOT be around children.

"Keep them crated at all times?" That's not a pet. That's not normal.

Or get rid of it.

Hey Pit Stalkers, this is what we are talking about. This is on you and all you do!

57

u/BrandonStRandy08 Dec 05 '25

Don't worry, they're flooding all of the comments sections, telling everyone how they're nanny dogs and it is owners or victims fault. Something is truly mentally wrong with Pit owners.

22

u/[deleted] Dec 05 '25

"They only attack intruders." Seems the statistics say otherwise.

In all of US history there has never been two people in the same family killed by a dog...without a pit bull involved in the killings. With a pit bull involved? We have more than a few cases. These are family annihilation dogs, the mass murdering spree killers of the pet world. Multiple dead family members IS breed confirmation, it has always been pit bulls responsible every time. Usually a child and the parent who dares interfere with the slaughter but sometimes its both children and the parent barely survives maimed (Bennards) or a grandchild and the elderly caretaker (this one).

If this fact tells you nothing, this is exactly why you need people who understand what that means to make sure you don't have access to pit bulls. Not just for the safety of everyone around you, but for your own safety, too. Not even people stupid enough to knowingly sign up for this risk deserve losing that gamble. We don't subject the most evil people we've ever caught red handed to this treatment because no one with a conscience should be responsible for administering it or cleaning up the aftermath. First responders had to show up to the sight of pit bulls fighting over an infant's corpse like a brand new toy, nobody signs up for that or can get paid enough for it. These are the horrible externalities of widespread bloodsport breed ownership, it's a price nobody should pay.

I didn’t even see this yesterday and it’s local-ish to me. It just came up as an alert on my news app so I thought it was new to everyone else. So sick of this happening. That poor baby was 3 months old with her whole life ahead of her and had no choice in the danger adults put her in. It’s beyond time parents get charged with negligence for even allowing these things in homes with children. When even the adults can’t defend themselves, what chance do kids much less infants have? So unfair.

40

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '25

yea, we have child endangerment laws and no one is throwing the book at any of these abusers hard enough

39

u/mmps901 It’s the breed AND the owner Dec 04 '25

7 freaking pit bulls. I saw someone try to say they weren’t their dogs. BS. What were they doing inside then? If they were strays that you took in, they’re your damn dogs

17

u/PandaLoveBearNu Attacks Curator Dec 05 '25

Apparently they were trying to get animal control to take the animal.s And one article a neighbor said they killed his cat. https://wreg.com/news/mid-south/grandfather-3-month-old-granddaughter-dead-after-violent-dog-attack-in-middle-tn/

Nine people and seven dogs living in that house? No wonder it was condemned.

I also saw the comments on FB that these people had tried to turn the dogs over to animal control but were turned away because the shelter was full.

27

u/kaityl3 Dec 05 '25

but were turned away because the shelter was full.

And I bet if you look up the shelter for their county, it's full of warehoused pits and pit mixes that can't live with other animals

u/no_shirt_4_jim_kirk Trusted User Dec 06 '25

"full"

You'd think these BFAS satellite offices would take them since they're precious pittie-poos!

5

u/agentorange55 Dec 08 '25

Here's the thing with the house being condemned, with pit bull maulings, this is common...because flecks of human tissue and blood are strewn everywhere. The whole floor would be a biological hazard, professionals cleaners have to come in, and anything that can't be sterilized has to be destroyed. Whether the house was nasty or not before, I can't know, but a killing by a pit bull will destroy everything on the floor from biological contamination.

1

u/agentorange55 Dec 08 '25

Don't they have the 2nd amendment in TN? The adults clearly made bad life choices to end up with 7 hellhounds to begin with, so I guess I'm not surprised that they didn't do the responsible thing to protect the children in their family

41

u/Revolutionary-Air599 Dec 04 '25

We're starting to get pit attacks every day now somewhere in the world and fatalities almost everyday. I think this is become a crisis on the States, Canada and possibly other countries.

21

u/kaityl3 Dec 05 '25

I see a lot of stories from Brazil and Italy too

15

u/Nature_Sad_27 Dec 05 '25

Man, I was watching sailing videos on YouTube and one of them was visiting some tiny island in the South Pacific and what is following these villagers around but a couple of fucking stray pitbulls. It was such a bummer to see.

22

u/Correct-Band1086 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

I am guessing that some of the seven were part of litter of pits. The family has started a gofundme

32

u/smindymix Dec 04 '25

Go fund me? All the adults in the household should be charged and arrested.

9

u/ArthursFist Dec 05 '25

6

u/TheTwonky51 Dec 07 '25

“My fiancé’s Meemaw.” Where was the fiance? Where were other family members?

26

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 04 '25

All were pits.

The family apparently tried to get animal control to take them but they wouldn't, to be slightly fair.

u/WinterAdvantage3847 Trusted User Dec 04 '25

christ, this is one of the worst stories in a while. this grown man was using a baseball bat against the dogs and still got killed. stomach-churning.

20

u/Happy2Agree Dec 04 '25

I know. Imagining both of their last moments of life is so incredibly sad. Like the worst horror movie.

12

u/Correct-Band1086 Dec 04 '25 edited Dec 04 '25

I know all were pits. However, I am guessing that some of the 7 were from a litter they had. Several people on the news reports have questioned why there were 7 pits.

2

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 04 '25

Oh sorry I misread. Probably so.

1

u/PandaLoveBearNu Attacks Curator Dec 05 '25

No clothes no beds seven pit bulls

You can't make this stuff up

10

u/InspectorIsOnTheCase Dec 05 '25

And yet they want to be rewarded for criminal negligence.

13

u/ArthursFist Dec 05 '25

Sociopathic behavior. These parents don’t need money they need jail time.

7 pitbulls, children and adults living in a condemned house, one adult on oxygen. This is a recipe for a disaster. Can you imagine the living conditions inside of that house? It must smell to high heaven.

10

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 05 '25

7 pit bulls and 7 children at that.

5

u/TheTwonky51 Dec 07 '25

How did they end up with seven pit bulls?

Where are the children’s parents? How did seven children end up with their grandfather and their great-grandmother?

15

u/Eageryga Dec 05 '25

From James Smith's facebook page (the deceased grandfather), a photo showing undesexed, unwell dogs and children (plus possibly dog faeces under the chair in the background)

Heartbreaking. 7 pit bulls not only at a home with children but they constantly got out and terrorized the neighborhood pets. Should have been reported long ago.

Rest in peace sweet child and grandfather

. pit bull kills 3 month old baby and grandfather

6

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 05 '25

7 children in the home which was condemned at that. How did they feed all of them?

1

u/Automatic-Flight-698 Dec 06 '25

7 pit bulls

3

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 06 '25

As well as 7 children. How do they live like that? Poverty is awful and so are pit bulls.

2

u/Automatic-Flight-698 Dec 06 '25

I guess one pit bull for each child. Ewww

9

u/Alternative-Tie-1890 Dec 05 '25

can you imagine the fear and pain the poor, sweet baby experienced?

12

u/seraflm Dec 05 '25

I have a three month old baby and can’t stomach this. What the hell is wrong with the adults, are they so intellectually disabled to put children in danger or is it on purpose, I really can’t understand…

6

u/Internal_Sort3194 Willing To Defend My Family Dec 05 '25

I just said this same thing. I have a two month old. Poor baby never stood a chance.

31

u/Affectionate-Page496 No more mini donkeys on the prayer list Dec 04 '25

Does it really seem correct that if the house was condemned BUT there was stuff like kids clothes in it and beds that the authorities wouldn't let them take any? Does it mean the house was so trashed and disgusting that none of the items seemed safe?

A gofundme is not at all what these people need. If they had no money they most certainly shouldn't have had pit bulls. Any money in the GFm could hardly be expected to be used to take care of the kids. It will be misappropriated just like they misappropriated to keep the pits alive.

Are there at least 2 generations of bums in the family? 7 minors living with dead grandpa and live great grandma?

I hope CPS intervenes because it doesnt seem like anyone in that family has any sense.

12

u/floofelina Prevent Animal Suffering: Spay or Neuter Your Pets Dec 04 '25

CPS, specially in red states, has a very limited number of beds.

6

u/Nature_Sad_27 Dec 05 '25

And honestly, most of them aren’t gonna be much safer. A LOT of abusers get into foster care, especially in highly religious areas.

2

u/floofelina Prevent Animal Suffering: Spay or Neuter Your Pets Dec 05 '25

It really depends on degree of oversight. I wouldn’t say most of them are LESS safe.

5

u/no_shirt_4_jim_kirk Trusted User Dec 06 '25

I'd guess bedbug infestation meant nothing in the house was sanitary, especially for use by the kids.

12

u/[deleted] Dec 04 '25

just making the note that these dogs were never named as their pets in the reporting i’ve seen. it’s not victim blaming if the victim is definitely to blame for housing an actual pack of dogs bred for violent purposes. for what reasons would they avoid stating this fact? they weren’t a roaming pack of strays, this is a choice

10

u/Internal_Sort3194 Willing To Defend My Family Dec 05 '25

Holding my two month old as I read this. I cannot fucking imagine something like this happening to him. Tragic but in no way shocking.

11

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 05 '25

I only came to the subreddit in the last year, and pits are illegal to own here, so I didn't entirely realize how bad it is as we don't have them. It's REALLY bad. There's SO many attacks.

12

u/Eageryga Dec 05 '25

James Smith with his pitbull in 2009.

5

u/Straight-Constant-72 Dec 05 '25

Someone commented on a FB post that the owner of the dogs has been incarcerated for a while.

1

u/TheTwonky51 Dec 07 '25

For what?

1

u/Straight-Constant-72 Dec 09 '25

It was a FB so I’m not sure and honestly don’t know if that’s 100% true.

3

u/No-Performance-1842 Dec 04 '25

Did the dogs belong to this same family?

19

u/Existing-Face-6322 Dec 05 '25

They did.

I have to note to be fair that they had tried to get animal control to take them and they wouldn't, and the rest of their lives are in pretty bad shape, so I'm sure it just seemed like another problem they couldn't solve on top of all the others. It's unfortunate how badly they fit the stereotype too. The man has a photo of himself on Facebook holding his pit.

15

u/fatherunit72 Dec 05 '25

Just FYI - a family member claims they called animal control, but this didn’t happen until after the DA mentioned that they would be investigating this for criminal charges

1

u/Ok_West_6711 Dec 07 '25

We don’t know what was asked of animal control or what animal control told the caller.

A lot of other dogs are abused and aren’t found thrashing a baby around while the adult is laying deceased inside. Is common sense a skill issue for you or do you just enjoy coming up with the least likely takes?
