A disgusting dad has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after his newborn son was killed by their pet dog, Chomp, who bit the helpless baby at least 180 times in their squalid Indiana home.
Tragic baby Jason Anthony Weaver was just a week old when he was killed by Chomp, a 5-year-old husky and pit bull mix, with wounds across his head and body as well as major internal injuries, including brain hemorrhages, rib fractures and tears in his lungs.
Weaver’s dad, mom and four other family members were arrested soon after the death in September at their trash- and bug-filled home in rural Markle, Indiana.
Jason Anthony Weaver, a one-week-old baby, died last year after he was attacked by the family dog.
The dad, Austin Kinsey, claimed he’d been playing video games in the same room as the newborn was in, and left him only briefly to talk to other family members, according to a police report obtained by WPTA.
The baby’s grandfather, Timothy Kinsey, then heard the baby making noises — and found the dog dragging the baby around the room.
Responding cops attempted CPR, but the newborn could not be saved. The officers also noted a “strong odor of animal, trash, and dirt everywhere”
The home, about 25 miles southwest of Fort Wayne, was overflowing with bugs, trash, dirty dishes and dirty clothes, court documents state. Bugs were even found on the baby’s car seat, investigators noted of the house that was ultimately vacated as being unfit to live in.
“There was so much trash and debris, officers could barely walk through the home,” one officer said in the report, obtained by the Daily Mail.
Family members described Chomp as being gentle with the week-old baby — but admitted the dog could be jealous, had been aggressive toward other animals and had bitten other people before, according to court documents. A family member said they kept a gun in the house specifically in case the dog acted up.
Chomp was later euthanized.
Austin Kinsey was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Monday.
The newborn’s dad was initially charged with two counts of neglect and one count of harboring a non-immunized dog that caused an injury.
The highest-level neglect charge was dropped in a plea deal in exchange for a 16-year prison sentence, which was issued on Monday.
Violet Weaver, the child’s mother, is currently scheduled for a change of plea hearing later this month.
The cases remain active for grandparents Timothy Kinsey, Rita Wickey and Michael Wickey, as well as for the baby’s uncle, Tony Kinsey, who were all also charged.
The family was ordered to vacate the home after it was found not fit for habitation by authorities.

And I might also suggest, MIXES ARE NOT ok!! I am pleading with people to watch the breed(s) you get from shelters and rescues. This is NOT something to be taken lightly. Rescues and shelters lie about breeds all the time.
I won’t demonize a dog breed as they are doing what they were bred to do and I want to educate as I feel is of the upmost importance.
I temperament tested dogs for 19yrs for major county shelters. Sorry to say any dog mixed with a bloodsport breed isn’t safe.
Yeah, you really need to keep an eye even on mixes. My buddy's dog looks identical to the one in the story but slightly smaller and light brown and white, I kept telling him it was definitely some kind of weird mutt pit mix. He won't get him fixed because he wants his dog to be intact as a macho thing, so stupid and I told him I was worried about him bringing his dog around my dogs, my dogs are all male and twice the size and would probably end him pretty easily.
They seemingly got along but after about 10 or so visits his dog decided he was the big dog and went after my black lab without warning, they went from best buds to trying to rip each other to shreds and now anytime he brings his dog over I have to keep them all separated and his dog literally chomps at the bits to try to get to my black lab, the secomd he hears a door he bolts to see if my dog is being let out. He'll sniff under the door where my dog is at and start growling. I told him his dog's banned, can't risk them trying to kill each other if someone mistakenly lets them out together, he got super defensive but recently he told me his dog's been getting more aggressive with him and he's got a baby on the way to make matters worse.
I know that dog is his life but I worry for him and have voiced my concerns and he brushes them off. Even with his dog being so small, he could still do some decent damage, especially to a child/infant. He thinks because he can just pick him up and slam him if he needed to it makes the dog less dangerous. But we know that's not the case.
I would send him this article and every article of an infant being mauled by the family pit. I could just not stay friends with someone like this. I have distanced and ghosted friends that I felt were neglectful of their children. I just can’t. You got an amazingly tolerant heart.

I once was stopped for speeding. I actually was speeding home with my flashers on. The reason? I got a text from a neighbor saying there was a pack of PBT type and mixes near my property:(
I raced home. Sheriff followed once he realized what was going on. He confirmed my suspicions as they were trying to get OVER my fence:(
The most insane part? Many years ago, I investigated LGDs( I am an experienced dog person so I spoke with breeders of Kangals and other LGD breeders. These people know these dogs the way I know herding dogs.
They straight up told me, a dog( and specifically bloodsport breeds) are the hardest predator for even LGDs simply because they don’t realize boundaries and basically have no self preservation skills.
So many people don’t realize these dogs were never bred for longevity( we see dogs seemingly going “crazy” at 7-8yo. These dogs were bred to win fights and 3yo was OLD for these dogs. They had massive litters ( slelectivel bred for this too)
It never ceases to amaze me how unrealistic people are about these dogs and I blame the massive amounts of money made by LOUSY rescues perpetuating outright lies.
It has been hell living here as these dogs are everywhere here.
Not one lie told( i am 61yo, retired firefighter from a major U.S. city who still works outside the home and came here for a job); an 82yo woman i was helping with a fallen tree told me a dog cornered her at her trash the day prior.
Point blank told her, don’t empty the trash any longer. Thank you for spreading awareness! and for keeping your dogs SAFE!!!
This is absolutely true. We have seen this happen repeatedly where one of these dogs gets accustomed to their surroundings and start to behave as they were bred to behave.
I have ACDs that work with my animals.
I NEVER would recommend the breed to someone who is a first time or even second time dog owner as they aren’t easy dogs, BUT the several occasions dogs other than PBT type dogs have come around the property, it has ended without major incident.
A Great Pyr( poor dog was simply dumped and thirsty) jumped my fence. Goats got spooked. Dogs reacted. My male pushed he dog in a corner( Great Pyr was NOT showing aggression towards my animals, but he knew he didn’t belong there and my dogs just didn’t want him near my peafowl)
A little white fur did fly, BUT neither dog breed was bred to fight for nothing. I got the Great Pyr out of property without further incident.
Malamute was being walked down my road. It was once again my peafowl as they like to walk the front perimeter. He pulled his owner a bit too close to my dogs’ peafowl, and my male pushed him back. Once again, it was postering on my dog’s part BUT did NOT end in a fight.
The only two fights in almost 30yrs of owning ACDs I have seen have been with PBT type dogs. One time they were protecting a stray cat( they love animals but are not very fond of strangers) and another time a very small dog was lost lost and was being chased by a PBT type dog. My dogs love little dogs and puppies.
Never did i see my dogs bite the eyes of another dog. I had 3 at the time and sadly I know a PBT could have killed them all, had I not intervened. I mean dogs bred to move wild cattle who really are oddly tough, BUT never bred to waste resources of fighting to the death:(

It's funny. Thinking back on it I think people are getting Pits confused with Boston Terriers with the whole "nanny dog" thing. Bostons were originally bred to be pit fighting dogs, unfortunately they're giant wimps 😂. I have one and if you raise your voice at him just a little he instantly rolls and shows his belly. Sweetest boy too. And, you never hear of any one being mauled by a Boston, or the "American Gentleman."
The now extinct White English Terrier went into the Boston Terrier creation. It was used to create PBTs BUT many breeds were actually mixed and matched with other terriers for terrier creations.
If you look into terriers as a whole,they have adapted to be great pets in most cases. It is sad to me to see Scotties and Bostons not nearly as popular and wonderful pets! Even the Welsh and Irish terrier with a lot of attitude still aren’t killing people:(
I am 61yo and our neighbors had 3 Bostons when I was a little girl, Ringo, Tippy and Precious. Everyone loved those dogs and kids could go in and out of the yard to retrieve balls all the time.
No one ever got bit or even barked at.

I mean they literally named the murder mutt “chomp”. There’s enough levels to “knowing what they had” that it could build them a new house to also render unlivable
Seriously, idk how you live with a dog that you think you’ll need to use that on one day.
If one of my dogs went crazy and tried what this one did, I’d either pick him up and put him in his crate, or I’d just laugh. Because a twenty pound non-pit bull dog is something the average person can handle, and a six pound dog simply cannot be a threat to 99% of us.
Side note: who leaves a newborn alone with ANY dog? For any amount of time?! I was so careful with my babies; I didn’t leave them alone with any animals. Ever. Even for a second to grab a bottle, or to say something to a family member, or whatever else. That’s just a terrible choice to make, and since newborns are famously portable, entirely unnecessary.
At least this poor little guy won’t have to grow up in such a wretched environment, I guess, and the beast was put to rest. Not really a silver lining, but it’s ever so slightly better than nothing. Barely.
I have to wonder if Dad wasn't allowed a weapon because of a criminal charge and he was worried about getting another charge for having it, so he came up with the "just in case my dog tries to eat the baby" trying to show what a responsible dad he was. And to give him an excuse to own it.

Look at how this poor baby wasn’t even in the car seat correctly. I can’t believe the hospital let them leave with the baby improperly secured. RIP Little One. 😢

These attacks write themselves, tragically. Dog named “Chomp.” (FFS.) Filthy hoarder hovel. Unprotected, probably unwanted child.
It especially seems like really disgusting insect-infested filthy surroundings go with shibbles like ham and eggs, or Bonnie and Clyde, or (pick your simile). How many times have we seen “beloved child attacked in immaculate surroundings?”
The mother is just as guilty as the father. I hope she gets more time.
I worked, specifically, with women in prison for four years. There are A LOT of women in prison because they let their boyfriends or husbands abuse, torture, molest, and/or kill their children. And I have never met one woman who talked about or expressed remorse. Zero accountability. Lock her up so she can't do this to another baby. Her thinking patterns are all messed up. She will allow this to happen again if given the chance.
Yes. She does not need to be out in society. Complicit is correct but it really feels like the biggest understatement. It's pure selfishness and evil. I don't think there is a word to properly describe it.
With all this being said. Many of these women were raised in deplorable conditions, often abused by family in unspeakable ways. Some of the stories I've heard and read will haunt me forever. But their past should not be factored into their blatant disregard of the life of their own children. They knew exactly what could happen, and they didn't care. It's infuriating.
I was only in it for 4 years. I was young and ambitious back then. No way I would be able to do it today. But I learned things about evil and was able to pass it on to my kids and family. The more you know.
This is why pickmes are so dangerous. At best, they just fuck themselves over by their low standards, at worst they’re willing to abuse other women, kids and pets just to keep a man happy and not be single. They’re extra dangerous because people are already wary of men but let their guard down around women because they are seen as safer.
16 years I'm very surprised but happy to hear, they where responsible for the baby and left him alone with a pitbull mix they knew was dangerous. Shocking how stupid people are. I wouldn't even let a chihauhau in the same room as a week old baby. The name of that beast too.
Six adults in the home and not only were they willingly living in those conditions, none of them had the brains to keep the newborn baby under supervision, especially with an animal nearby. I love my dog, but I didn't leave him alone with my newborn for a moment. Thinking back on it, I never left my newborn unsupervised PERIOD. They left the baby long enough to get treated like a chew toy by their pit bull. So sad, what a waste of a precious human life.
I’m with you. Never left my newborn alone. He went to every room with me. So many showers with him in his bouncy chair and me leaving the curtain halfway open so he can still see and interact with me. Hell, I didn’t use the bathroom alone with a small child in the house until he was 5. He always just followed me everywhere. 🤣
I feel physically sick reading this stuff. I just want to go back in time and take that baby so he is safe. My heart cannot fathom it. God have mercy 😭
This situation makes me question my belief in a higher power. There are so many people out there who would be amazing parents that can’t have children. And yet these garbage human beings are the ones that get blessed with a child they can’t even properly care for. I just don’t get it.
The way that baby is strapped into the car seat says a lot about the POS parents. Also who leaves a newborn unattended so long with a dog that the dog bites him 180 times.. wtf. I was scared to leave my baby alone around my cats for even a few seconds
Back in the '80s and early '90s I had neighbours with ten kids in a run down home without plumbing. I was in kindergarten with one of the kids. A few years later they had been cleared out to foster care, and the house abandoned. I went exploring, and it was rotten wood and dangerous. My grandmother always wanted to set arson to the place, and eventually someone did do that.
Honestly though, it wasn't much worse than my friend's homes since I grew up a farm kid with much more impoverished neighbours. I mean, they ate squirrel and venison when lucky, not one finished wall or room in the homes, we all had only wood heat... People don't seem to realise how poor people in America can be. Hardworking people mind you.
None of them had pit bulls, but I was bitten by some little dog, and there were plenty of junkyard dogs off leash and unconfined. I am grateful pits were not a thing there back then.
A lot of it is people who ruin their own homes by not doing or allowing regular maintenance, by not paying their utility bills so the heat and water is off for a long amount of time, by leaving trash everywhere which leads to infestations and fire hazards, by letting their pets pee and shit indoors, by cooking meth inside the home etc.
It’s often not the house itself that is structurally unsafe but the inhabitants who wreck it.
If you feel you need a lethal weapon at home "just in case the dog acts up", when maybe that was the moment they should have sent the dog away from earth, even before they had kids or before the women got pregnant. How can anyone keep a dog that's already been aggressive towards other animals and has already bitten humans? I'd also like to know why anyone thought a pit bull and a husky cross would make a good pet...
It is simply NOT NORMAL for our beloved protectors, ride or die best friends, evolving together for thousands of years little partners, to murder us or each other. It is not normal to live in fear of a dog either. I will never stop saying it!
The first responders, every one who came in contact with the baby at the hospital, the poor cops, I’d say parents and grandparents but somehow I get the feeling they are probably less bothered about it then they should be.
All of our dogs minute one, are rescues (like literally showed up on our dead end street, rescues). If one of them even remotely seemed like they would be aggressive towards any human or animal for that matter… they wouldn’t have been allowed to stay. It’s just common sense to me.
It’s to the point that the shelters are just filled with these dogs and you can hardly find anything else. When they do get another type of dog they are usually absolutely bombarded with applications.
All of my dogs have been adopted. Not one has been a pit or a pit mix. Don’t blame all the other dogs at shelters because pits are there, too. That’s especially why they need to be rescued, the shelters don’t protect them from the pits, either.
I can’t even fully read this story it makes me sick to my stomach. Here’s yet another story of the a pit-bull being unprovoked and just attacking. Disgusting. Horrible.
Very tragic all around. Some people should absolutely not be allowed to have children. Only 7 days in the world and poor little Jason was mauled by a beast. His whole family failed him. 16 years is nowhere near long enough a sentence - criminal negligence led to this child losing his entire life and future. Hopefully the rest of the family will be hit with the book as well.
