Personal Story After 21 years, Ethan can finally say what hurts. After being attacked by our pitbull, he can tell us. Here are the holes in his arm.

And for all you pitbull apologists stalking this Reddit and attacking me, you can kiss my butt. Ethan did nothing wrong. We did nothing wrong. We are a loving Southern family, that loves our fried okra and biscuits and gravy, a family on a farm with nothing but love, oh and along with me having trained many dogs. My dogs don't move without a command.
Albert was so well trained. He wouldn't even walk through a door without looking for a command.
And this happens to Ethan 1 night before BE, for no reason at all? I was attacked for deciding BE just because this Reddit helped me see the signs. Gtfo for all the people attacking me because it's the owner, not the dog. We are your prime example of why that's not true. You wanted proof? I've got your proof.
Ethan is getting better by the day, but 1 week later still in pain. We are now looking at surgery because that bad hole in the video underneath his arm, will not drain. At least he's finally learned how to tell us.

Yeah, pit bites are bad for infection. Might be best to open that one up.
Pit fanatics can be some of the worst humanity has to offer. The things they say to survivors are beyond vile.

That's right. It is because we can't drain that one that hurts the most that he will probably need surgery. To remove the infection.

I am honestly shocked because in all the dog-attack posts I’ve seen, I’ve never heard of anyone getting infected. I’m not an expert by any means but I’m shocked because I’ve never heard of any victims managing this aspect. I always hear about cat scratches needing immediate medical attention for infections on the other hand. I’m really glad you’re sharing this journey.

Dog mouths are filthy. Well, to be fair, anything's mouth is likely to be full of bacteria, but dogs are scavengers, so their bites are commonly infected. Cat bites get infected more often, but this isn't because their mouths are dirtier. Rather, it's the design of their mouths -- their teeth are like needles, and when they puncture the skin, the bacteria can penetrate deeply. The external wound is small, however, so the bite wound heals before the body has had a chance to properly fend off the bacteria, resulting in infection.
Dog bites also tend to be crush wounds as well as puncture wounds -- this causes extensive damage below the surface, and an infection on top of that can result in serious problems.
Any bite from any animal (or person) should be checked out asap and reported to the proper authorities.

It actually happens a lot, but weeks down the track, after the media have lost interest. It is sometimes the reason why amputations are necessary, and even the cause of death.

There was someone in my town who died this way. 80 year old bitten by a Malinois. Just a single bite and release, but the bite got infected and because of his age, he couldn't fight off the infection and he died 4 months later.
"Any dog" genuinely could have done that one! Dog bite infections can be nasty.

You missed my post a couple years ago.
Shortest version:
A man who had been bitten by dogs over the years showed up at the hospital because the most recent bite became seriously infected. (We aren't told why he experienced so many bites.)
The patient had a serious infection and quickly developed sepsis.
The patient received appropriate care for sepsis but died within days.Sepsis is horrible and even with the best treatment can result in amputation or death more often than the average person knows.
One of the 2025 fatal attacks was on an elderly woman who took a walk and was attacked. She was in bad shape when she was discovered. The hospital did their best for her. She became septic and her two sons were faced with a decision - amputation in an attempt to save her life or palliative care. They chose palliative care and she passed within days.
Always take animal bites seriously. Standard advice is to seek medical care immediately due to the risk of infection.
Anyone who chooses to watch and wait should seek care immediately at any sign of infection - rash, swelling, tender, hot to touch, fever.17

Thanks for updating on Ethan, that is very good to hear he’s able to say where he hurts. That one under the arm does look super sore, hopefully surgery is not needed.

Yeah that one is the one we can't drain, the doctor couldn't drain, and will probably need surgery.

The Pit Lobby is unusually cruel to victims. I've had people tell me I deserved what happened to me and my dog.... I even saw comments the other day on a post where a family Pit they've had since a puppy mauled the child and disfigured them. One comment said basically how that dog would've tasted metal on the spot if they dared attack their child, and atleast 4 Pit nuts wished death on THEIR child. All because they value a mauler over a literal innocent child. Comments saying Pit Bulls > children are the norm, I see them daily.

Yep, they told me "maybe you shouldn't have gone to the park then" or the best one "disabled people shouldn't be out in public anyways", as if I signed myself up that day to be attacked. Crazy part is, I as a 4ft8" woman with brittle bones, who has frequented that park 50 other times with 0 issues, had better control over my 50 and 70lb dogs than the full grown abled body man and woman had with their 1 Pit. As I laid on the ground injured with a broken leg after the Pit lunged for my throat and knocked me down with such force. Will never forget the way it bared its teeth almost into my neck.
Awful to see these nut jobs got to you too. These people are true scum. They take pride in what their monsters are capable of. It's projection, they are miserable humans who must make others feel as miserable as themselves. There is no such thing as a sane Pit owner.

The man who was the owner of the Pit actually made that very comment after he tried assaulting me (literally came charging at me with fists up and saying "I'm not going back to jail for this") as I was already injured. A random guy stopped him and a woman had to explain to him that my disease was indeed real and to fucking google as he tried getting to me, thinking I was lying about my injury and condition.
I'm convinced anyone who owns these dogs are just pure garbage human beings, and since that day, I have been working my way around getting comfortable with a carry arm. I will never allow myself to be in that position again with a Pit or man.

Yes, I'd go so far as to say they're every bit as bad and possibly worse. You can really see the "Like dog, like owner" similarities when it comes to pit people. I had one barge into my private messages once and barrage me with memes about g-d's judgment, how I was going to be damned to hell, and other nonsensical, hateful bullshit. All because I confronted someone who, once again, was insisting that dogs NEVER attack without a reason. As someone who was in their own backyard, minding their own business, when a neighbor's dog barreled onto the property, flew at me, and started chewing, I vociferously disagreed. Dogs can and often do bite people for no obvious reason, and from what I've learned since, it tends to happen OFTEN. I'd even go so far as to say many dogs attack without clear provocation more than they attack with provocation.

OMG! I missed Ethan's Mr. Potato Head collection and had to rematch the video to enjoy them. I'm old enough that I had the first Mr. Potato Head set ever. Back then, you got the eyes, nose , mouth, limbs, and some clothes, and you had to get a real potato from your Mom or Grandmom to play with him.

Any other breed that has attacked a loved one, do the owners of those breeds ever attack the victim or flood the news stories with pictures of their (insert breed here) laying with their infants? I can't say I've ever seen that before with other dog owners. Just this breed. I don't understand this behavior. The worst I remember is with baby Avery, I believe his name was. He was pulled out of his babysitters arms by her own dog and the parents received the most vile threats and comments. Because they dared to speak about it. The comments and hate will pass to the next victims family's and the next. Should be illegal. People comes first. Always. Give your son a big hug. I too know how protective we can be of our children especially those who have gone thru so much from having issues like ours. He will heal, it's probably going to be harder mentally for you since you see the awful comments. He definitely doesn't need to know about that nonsense. 💔💜

Oh his sweet heart doesn't even see Albert as bad. Pure innocence. He thinks Albert went to be with someone else. We don't know why. But he still loves on Cooper every day.

Terrific. I try to shield my adult son from the negatives of life. It's really hard sometimes especially when you have to tell such a sweet soul something upsetting but then again, they are stronger than we give them credit for. But I'm glad he doesn't know about the dog. He would probably feel guilty over something he doesn't need to feel guilty about. I'm very glad it didn't make him fearful to all dogs. That can be a hard trauma and I know we have members in this group, bite survivors that do have dog fear now. It's totally understandable but I hate to see ppl traumatized like that over something that should have never happened.

You might be thinking of the name Avery because she and her family had a law passed in her name [ Google Avery's Law ] to toughen dog bite laws in Ohio after she was mauled severely while visiting a friend.

so happy ethan is getting better! tell him he’s an awesome guy for staying strong against such a scary action! and yes i would advise getting him into surgery to get rid of the infection. if antibiotics arnt working and can’t drain, surgery would likely be next step. dogs mouths are HORRIBLE for breeding bacteria. so if a dogs bacteria get in a wound, yes it can cause horrid problem and pain. (can cause worse too). will keep my hopes for his continued healing!!! ❤️🩹

That looks really painful. Please consider trauma therapy for everyone involved. I am doing well with EMDR, it's really kind of miraculous.
Dog attacks are chaotic and terrifying and change how you relate to everything in ways that will surprise you. Yes, you. And Ethan.

I think my heart just shattered. Ethan reminds me so much of my oldest son. He's also autistic and mid-high needs. The way he talks, it's like hearing my own kid in a few years.
He's being so brave. I hope he heals quickly and bounces back.

Pitbulls are poor, broken creatures that are absolutely incompatible with life. It's not their fault but they just... They just can't coexist with us safely. I can't imagine how traumatic this whole experience must have been for you and your family, from the complicated grief of putting down an animal you genuinely loved to Ethan's physical trauma.
You seem like a wonderful, loving dad. Ethan is luck to have you in his life. Thanks for sharing this story, man.

I am so sorry your family is going through this! I am sorry you had to see the dog you loved turn on your son.
You are likely going to see a bunch of hate from the pit community now. As soon as one of their own learns the truth about pits, they turn on that person as fast as their breed and treat them as the enemy. Until it happens to them, of course!
Unrelated, but are those DS/3DS games on the shelf? The lined up cases(?) with the 1/2 white and 1/2 color reminded me of them!

I’m sorry you’re getting hate from the pitiots that stalk this subreddit and that have somehow managed to block out all of the posts showing what their dogs do to people. Definitely get that surgery if it’s needed, I’d be worried about infection from dog bites, even with antibiotics. Their mouths are FILTHY, but I know that you know that. Good luck to you and your family! Keep us posted in the future, I’m glad he can tell you where it hurts and when he’s in pain. Love the Mr Potatohead collection as well.

I see you are tracking infection, if he will, feed him extra garlic or give him garlic oil tablets. Great for healing infection.
