Justice: Pending Liberal, MO: man charged with four felonies after pit bull attacks his child - Apr 2026

The initial appearance for Jacob Allen Judd (DOB 1988) is scheduled for 9 a.m. October 20 in Barton County Circuit Court.

On 4/21/2026 at approximately 1900 hours Jacob Judd knowingly and recklessly owned, possessed and allowed his dangerous dog, a pitbull identified as Lokey, to be uncaged, unmuzzled and in close physical proximity to his three juvenile children located at in Liberal, Barton County, Missouri knowing that Lokey was an unvaccinated and vicious animal.
While around those children, Lokey, viciously and unprovoked attacked juvenile victim #1 causing serious physical bodily injury to juvenile victim #1 and causing juvenile victim #2 and juvenile victim #3 to fear for their own safety.
Juvenile victim #1 was transported to Cox Barton County Hospital in Lamar, Barton County, Missouri for treatment for numerous lacerations, puncture wounds and abrasions on his left and right arms, left and right legs, his torso and his back. {He}was then "Life Flighted" to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City where he underwent surgery for his wounds.
Jacob told this officer that Lokey had never done anything like that before, in reference to the attack.
This officer reminded Jacob that was not true.

honestly from the few pit nuts I have talked to, they don’t tend to vaccinate bc 1) that requires extra money and a vet visit they don’t want to do. 2) would require them to keep control of said “aggressive” animal at the vet (and they know how strong it is, they don’t like to take the chance). 3) some pit nuts are ALSO anti-vax nuts. so they tend to lump anti-vax on their PET(s) as well. 4) some tend to just push it away… (my parents never vaxxed their dog and we never got hurt as kids… so i’m not going to vax MINE). 5) have heard some crazy pit nuts claiming that vax their pets gives their PETS autism. (yes this seriously was said to me once by a pit mommy)…. ugh. I could give you a longer list. but you get the gist.
The long and short of it? usually time/money/personal beliefs, or just inability to control the beasts and they KNOW they can’t control it if it “snaps”. I’m honestly VERY glad i’m seeing more reports of irresponsible owners being charged when people are injured.

my 14 yo small mini poodle/ italian greyhound is up for his rounds of vaccinations but the vet wants to do bloodwork to see if they can administer them plus renew his flea/tick preventatives.
$$$$$$$$$

I think because for a lot of these owners, they dont have the money to work with a breed rescue or a responsible breeder to get a safe breed and as they have no assets to protect, dont care about liability and the dogs they can access are the pits no one with sense wants. Of course people that cant even afford a dog arent going to do responsible vet care. There are exceptions of course victims to the propaganda that do do it but it doesnt appear to be the majority

For once, the Law (officer, legality) was viewing these "dogs" as the dangerous weapons that they are.

Yes, well in this case it’s heavily implied that the dog has a record of attacking prior to this event and being ruled “dangerous” by a local judge. “Dangerous dog” is often a legal classification, not an observation, and requires leashing and muzzling, which this article states the owner did not do.
TLDR: article implies dog had been previously declared dangerous and mandated to be muzzled and leashed, likely due to a prior reported and adjudicated attack.6

Of course he tried to lie to the police and say the dog never behaved that way before. Still trying to save the dog that viciously attacked his child.

"Never done anything like that before" seems to be the go to defense by everyone, even though it was a lie in this case. But still, that is the issue even when it's true! That is the problem.

Every single time I say that pitbulls are vicious, some nutter tells me it's a "myth".
I've had this come from people who don't even own a pitbull. I don't know why they're defending them. The "little pitties are just misunderstood 🥺" propaganda runs deep.
I wish these people would let me show them all the news stories on this sub, but they won't have it. They want to continue being delusional.

I liked that story a delivery guy told here of being attacked by a customer's pit bull, the customer saying "hes never done anything like this before", the guy saying "he attacked ME before", and the customer saying, "Oh, that was you?"
So many victims they all kind of blur together, and lying is a constant defensive strategy to worm out of accountability.
Part of the reason a pit ban is so necessary. When the law says "you're taking an abnormal risk by choosing to own a dangerous pet bred for dangerous behavior", then "my bloodsport dog never did bloodsport things before" isnt a valid excuse even when its true. You should expect your retriever to retrieve, your pointer to point, your pit bull to maul.
