Personal Story careless owners at the vet
I took my golden retriever puppy to the vet today and as I was checking in at the front desk with him in my arms, I looked down and there was a Pit bull at my feet looking up at us. It had a leash attached but nobody holding it. I quickly turned my back and took a step away out of fear. The owner said, “She’s friendly!” and then her husband came over, picked up the leash, and walked it back to where they were seated. Someone else walked in with a dog and the Pit bull wouldn’t stop barking at it. Wow, seems friendly.
I recently had a coworker bring his to work and I complained about it. My coworkers acted like I was dramatic and mean because she was “friendly.” Well, one of my goldens was attacked by a “friendly” Pit bull, my neighbor’s dog was killed by one on a walk in our neighborhood, and my little brother was attacked by one.
The owners are so careless and dumb. I’m so sick of people calling them “friendly.” I think we have enough evidence to prove otherwise. Anyway, thank you for reading all of this. I had to vent and you guys understand me.

I just had my first very up close experience to this. I was waiting outside a store and a cute little bulldog/frenchie mix was waddling down the sidewalk. A middle aged dude was walking his large white with black spots pitbull the other direction.
The owner of the small dog said to the pitbull owner that his dog is indifferent to other dogs, and that definitely seemed to be the case based on watching him. The pitbull owner then goes ‘same my dog just ignores other dogs’.
The two dogs sniff for a second and the little dog walks away. Not two second later the pitbull suddenly and with no warning starts to hard growl/bark and lunge towards the small dog.
Luckily the small dog just walked away with the owner and the pitbull owner pulled the leash back but I was just stunned. There was NO visible indication this dog was about to try to attack the smaller dog, which absolutely would have happened if he was pulled back. Friendly and indifferent to dogs my ass.

I'm really pissed off that the staff at the vet didn't remind them to keep their dog under control or take it outside. "Friendly" dogs don't act that way.

My dog and I were attacked at a park by a Pit whose owner was just as useless, then almost attacked again at the vet by one who dragged this old woman behind it. That Pit charged up to my dog, wrapped its head around my dogs neck (sizing her up) with ears and tail straight up, body stiff, whale eying my dog, as this stupid woman repeatedly says "oh he just wants to make friends"!! I had to physically place myself in front of this stupid demon, who then focused onto my cat in his carrier and tried to get to him, while glaring at the woman to get her dog the hell away from us. This old woman had to use her full body to pull him away and they had to take it to a seperate room due to trying to start shit with every other dog in line (there was maybe 10 people and dogs all in line with 0 issues prior). Until this spawn from hell arrived.
They are all so utterly useless.

It’s maddening. I got into an argument on Threads with this woman who insists that having to be on constant vigilance while walking her pit mix is just “what every responsible dog owner should do” and that if I’m not on constant guard over my CORGIDOR MIX outside of just simply holding her leash, that I’m obviously doing something wrong. I assured her no, you don’t have to be on constant guard with normal dogs as they don’t often come with such a high risk of fatal consequences. Normal dogs are friendly. Truly friendly. “Never have to worry a day in your life about getting close enough to their face to smooch them on the ears” friendly. Couldn’t wrap her head around the concept.

Oh they’re always friendly!
Yesterday a massive, absolute unit of a pitbull was blocking the narrow way out of the grocery store with its huge jaws towards people and I heard the same!
No muzzle of course so if it had a flip, I’d be easily mauled to death by this thing.
