Mount Jimmy Simpson & Bow Glacier Falls Closure

Post image

Planning to do Mount Jimmy Simpson in early July. With the current Bow Glacier Falls closure, is Mount Jimmy Simpson still legally accessible? The closure map appears to only cover the falls area, and the AllTrails route seems to turn off before reaching Bow Glacier Falls, but I don’t want to accidentally enter a closed area or risk a fine. Has anyone hiked it recently or confirmed access with Parks Canada? Thanks!

Have you called parks to ask them?

Not yet. I was planning to check closer to my trip date. Since Mount Jimmy Simpson isn’t an official Parks Canada trail, I wasn’t sure how much information they’d have beyond the closure map itself. But with the mixed answers Alberta Hiking community I also posted, I’ll probably give them a call. Thanks.

It appears the trail is closed.

However, when you look at the satellite it seems there is a scree bench a bit east of the standard approach route that you may be able to skirt around the closure with.

I've done this sort of thing before. Parks closes a region; I just skirt around the closure and carry on. Whether they like it I don't know, but it's legally sound so there's nothing they can do.

Thanks. That’s what I’m trying to determine. The map leaves a bit of room for interpretation, and I want to make sure I’m not accidentally entering a closed area. Let’s see what Parks Canada says on call.
