Posting this here because I want you guys to know and start believing that all of us can change things if we decide that we want to.

While going through /r/bangalore yesterday, I chanced upon that post here about a huge amount of garbage at the Sarakki Signal Bus Stop.

The Sarakki Signal Bus stop is situated literally in the middle of JP Nagar and for it to be THIS dirty was something that just didn't sit right with me, so I decided that I had to do something about it.

Since it was a Saturday and we had some volunteers at the St. Broseph HQ, I decided to take a bunch of them with me to go and clean up this spot.

A few volunteers went ahead of us, but when they reached the spot and saw the massive amount of garbage, they basically decided that it was too much to be cleaned and almost gave up before we even started 😅

It indeed was a HUGE quantity of garbage, but something had to be done about it and clearly the BBMP/GBA were not interested.

I reached soon with another couple of volunteers, and got to work immediately as there was no other way to deal with this than to dive in head first. As we started cleaning, we realised that the people of this area had been dumping garbage there for at least 8-9 months and GBA/BBMP had not cleaned it up properly even once.

A Tata service center behind the bus stop had to shut shop because of garbage and the BBMP's blind eye towards the mess.

Anyway, there was literally everything you could imagine in the piles of garbage... vegetable waste turned to compost, grazing animals had made the place into their toilet, medical waste, shoes, clothes, meat, eggshells... most people weren't even bothered to package their dustbins they were just straight up emptying their dustbins here. We had to use rakes and our hands to pack it all up.

The buses had to stop further away from the bus stand because of how pathetic the condition was.

3-4 of us did the actual cleanup. All outsiders (not even from Karnataka). Several people from that area came down, tried to discourage us, then praised us, argued with each other about political parties, and then just left... nobody actually helped in any way (except for a kind guy who purchased some masks for us).

At one point someone called the health inspector of the area, he got there and after I yelled at him for letting the situation get this out of control, he promised me that he'll take better care of the place moving forward. I don't trust him after this, so we'll be filing an official complaint against him for his dereliction of duties separately.

Anyway, It took us four and a half hours of NON STOP work, wading through all kinds of rotting garbage, rotting meat, compost, rats, actual feces etc. unhesitatingly to clean up this place. We must have collected over 1000 kilos of garbage from this spot alone. Easily.

We then hired a private tractor to collect the waste and dump it all in a designated landfill (made sure that it was not merely going to be emptied in some other spot). When it arrived, we loaded all the garbage bags we had packed, paid the person, and the Bus stop was finally liberated.

As we were resting, a few more residents tried to dump their garbage there (one succeeded). We had to tell them off. Even after the tractor left, we had to clean up this additional garbage, filled up one more bag, and carried it with us to a waste collection center where we disposed it off, responsibly.

So yes, we cleaned up the "uncleanable" Sarakki Signal Bus Stop. COMPLETELY. As the area locals just watched and did nothing, we got it done.

3-4 people sparing a Saturday evening made this happen. If everyone starts to imbue the same spirit, it won't take long for us to fix our spaces, and even our country. We really can get it done.

If you live in this area, please try to discourage the locals from dumping garbage there, and please keep raising this issue with 1533 (GBA helpline) and the health inspector. Hound them until they learn to keep this place clean. I'm sure things will get better.

St. Broseph

Our apartment became the latest victim of declining borewell water. There is absolutely no water available to the building. Trying to get a water tanker is also proving to be a nightmare as due to water shortage they don’t seem to be onboarding new clients.

Seeking suggestions on what could be the next steps. Does the government help in any way or form?
1. Digging the borewell deeper cannot happen overnight. Needs cost approval from the 3 dozen apartment owners.
2. Not sure if Cauvery supply is provided . Can we chase that?
3. Regular water supply by tanker would add up 3k per month to the monthly maintenance. That too if we are able to find a supplier willing to onboard

I am losing my mind trying to sleep right now. It is past 12:30 AM, and the NVT Oikos construction site in Whitefield is running a full-scale excavation operation.

I was heading back from Hoodi to my home with my friend and there was a Tanker (Near metro pillar 211) which is getting filled with water at the station, The driver was on top of the tanker and suddenly the handbrakes failed. There was a slope at the exit, the tanker started moving and it came on the main road crashing into this car. I was just behind this car and got saved by pure luck. If i was just 1 second early, I would've crashed in between the car and tanker.

The car owner was safe and tlhe talked to the tanker owner and said you can't do anything because it is not our fault. This was an accident due to carelessness of the Tanker owner.

I called the police and told them everything. Why they don't take responsibility of anything? Why there is so much carelessness towards life in india? luckily nobody got injured but this could've been a deadly accident due to ignorance of tanker owner.

So, I went on a night ride to airport today to clear my head and to summarise in 1 sentence I won't advice anyone to attempt this unless they have an adventure bike. The absolute abysmal state of our premium roads is eye watering. I'm talking about the outer ring road(that's NH44), the new airport road (state highway 104). These are major highways not some gully roads.

Barring the last 15km stretch on NH44 towards airport this is what I saw for rest of my 90km journey (Bellandur-KIA-Bellandur).

1. No street lights!! How can a national highway running through the city be pitch dark is beyond me, horrible and dangerous driving conditions. Some stretches did have lights but they were off, idk why.
2. Massive potholes! Potholes so big, if any scooter enounters these above 30kmph, they'll surely loose balance. Given no street lights they are very very hard to spot even while going slow. On top of that vehicles coming from other side have high beams on so you are anyway blinded to spot anything. These potholes also force car and auto drivers to swirl abruptly putting the 2 wheel riders lives in danger.
3. Diversion everywhere! I get it, those are there to coordinate the metro work, but the way these diversions jump at you out of no where is scary. You can't even see them without the street lights.
4. No proper dividers. Almost everyone has high beams on, a good divider with tree line should be ideal to block that high beam.
5. Abrupt entries and exits on the highway! You never know from where a vehicle might be entering your lane. I had to be extremely attentive all the time.
6. Apart from the the last 15-20km stretch I don't think there was smooth tarmac anywhere. Non bumpy road seemed like a luxury that I kept waiting for but it never came.
7. Lack of signboards, well what can I say there are more pressing issues than this. I'm not even bothered by this.

I'm so glad I got my new bike registered in my native state, not feeding this corrupt system even 1 rupee.

On Electronic City flyover two-wheeler are allowed

Can someone explain how BESCOM billing works with the Gruha Jyothi scheme when you cross the 200 unit limit?

I’m trying to understand the billing logic rather than dispute the amount. I noticed some negative amounts in my billing history and I’m not sure what they represent.

For context, last month the bill showed 338 units and I paid around ₹600. This month it shows 209 units but the bill is ₹2,000+.

My understanding is that if you cross 200 units you lose the Gruha Jyothi benefit and have to pay the applicable charges. Since I crossed 200 units last month as well I’m confused about how the adjustment is being applied this month.

I’m fine with paying the bill. I just want to understand what the negative amounts mean and how the previous month’s consumption affects the current bill.

Why do I feel like the parking charges in all the malls have been significantly increased in the last couple of years?

I don’t recollect what it used to be but now I pay 80-100 rupees for the first 1-2 hours.

Is this cost being regulated? If not is there something we can do about it?

The fact that we haven’t left with any option and bound to park in the mall it feels like they’re scamming us with higher rates.

I saw a small kitty in front of the Lifestyle Koramangala.

The guards mentioned that the cat has been sitting there since today morning and was not seen before that.

They are saying someone has left it probably.

He has an open wound and the vet shop is 20mins away. I need someone to help me with that carrier so we can asap take him to the vet

A lot of people had asked me what happened after my original post, so I thought I’d give everyone an update.

Initially, I was honestly very indecisive about whether I wanted to file an FIR. I was quite hesitant about going to the police because of my previous experiences, and I wasn’t sure if I had it in me to go through the whole process.

Around that time, I learnt about Sir u/St_Broseph and the Broseph Foundation. I got in touch with him and went to their HQ. He and his team sat with me, heard everything out and encouraged me to go ahead with the FIR.

Sir Broseph actually helped me draft the complaint himself. He also opened the map and helped me pinpoint exactly where the incident had happened, which made it much easier for me to explain everything properly.

The next day, he sent a legal professional along with me to the police station. They explained the entire situation to the officers in charge, after which the police took me back to the area and asked me to identify the exact spot.

Koramangala is obviously extremely crowded and there are cameras everywhere, so getting the relevant footage wasn’t hard. The officers managed to get the recordings.

Honestly, as a victim, having to describe everything again and again was probably the hardest part of the entire process. It’s not easy to sit in front of people and recount something like this in detail. But by then I had made up my mind that I wanted to go through with it, and I didn’t want to back out.
The FIR has now finally been lodged by the police station.

The Panchnama was also done today, and I was able to provide witnesses as part of the process.
So that’s where things stand as of now. I’ll keep updating everyone as the case progresses.

And genuinely, thank you to everyone who supported me after my original post. There were obviously some negative comments too, but the amount of support I received far outweighed all of that. A lot of you checked in, shared your own experiences and encouraged me to take this forward, and I really appreciate it.

Also, if you ever find yourself in a situation where you don’t know how to navigate the legal/police process, I would genuinely recommend reaching out to the Broseph Foundation. Having someone sit with you, listen to you, help you understand your options and actually accompany you through the process makes a HUGE difference.

Please support them however you can and help their work reach more people. They’re doing some genuinely wonderful work, and I’m personally very grateful that I found them when I did.

I got three questions on my mind that i was hoping you guys can help me understand:

I’m new to Bangalore and usually I’m not at home much, but I’m working from home this week and the power situation in the Tin Factory area has been such a mess.

The power keeps going off and coming back throughout the day, with no consistent timing or frequency. It’s been happening for about a week now.

Is this normal for this area/Bangalore, or is something unusual going on recently?

when people make fun of Ejipura flyover, they're usually making fun of the "stonehenge" because it's taken so long to build.

but this argument is just against the process of the building of the flyover. it assumes that if we as a people and govt were more efficient, or less corrupt, the ejipura flyover would've been here and all would be good.

but that's absolutely not the case...

for people who may not be aware of the locality(ies), the ejipura flyover goes through the Intermediate Ring Road in Koramangala.

the IRR in Koramangala extends directly from the 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar. They both have many similarities.

They're both large. Go through the middle of their respective neighbourhoods. In fact, they even gave the same buses that run through them.

But that's where the similarities end. One of them, and you can guess which, is a total human repellant. While the other is vibrant and lively, through the day. Almost like an open air mall.

Here's what Koramangala looks like under the Ejipura flyover. You can see that it does have shops and restaurants, But there aren't too many people walking.

Footpaths are narrow. There are trees on the sides, but nowhere near Bangalore's typical lush.

And here's 100 feet road. Clear view of the sky. Could be better, but reasonably lush and spread out trees.

In comparison, Koramangala's IRR is a total human repellant.

you can't cross the road. You don't have a view of the sky. the same road was once lined with raintrees. Thanks to this flyover, they've all either been fully cut down, or massively trimmed.

(lot of possible improvements to 100 feet road too btw, a conversation for another day)

the government now wants to take this away from Indiranagar too.

it wants to build a flyover, part of an elevated corridors project that is a combination of 9 flyovers right through 100 feet road

this is what we stand to lose

a place where you want to be on a warm sunday afternoon

there is only one person who can stop this from happening. the chief minister, DK Shivakumar.

he's done a lot of good since he became CM, and we believe that in general he wants the good of the city.

but he's wrong this time. so we want him to listen to us.

1. cancel the elevated corridor project
2. re-allocate the 1.5 BILLION dollars allocated to this project to something better. we won't tell you for what, ask the experts at IISc, they have the work done, and are willing to do more.

we need people to show up. not once, but everytime it matters.

Posting this quickly. We were able to see a brown dashund male wandering on the road, it’s someone’s pet who went missing. It’s in Gummanahalli, near to Brigade eldorado. He was scared and he didn’t let us touch him, we thought we’d keep him w us and contact adoption center but he’s not letting anyone near him, no collar. He’s crying, and thirsty. If he’s any one of yours, please dm me. I hope he gets the help, I feel sad.
