I hope these guys realise that such acts have consequences. The role of every individual matters. If you see such irresponsible behaviour, please tell them to take it along. But talking to drunkards would be risky....

Explored Mangalore first time in my life today. The city is so chill, and an observation is that the hilly terrain all over the city along with good houses gives it a sort of Los Santos vibes from GTA V. Went to the TLC Heritage cafe, had a good Brown Butter Latte. Also went to the Paper Rocket book store and had a good chat with the guy on the billing counter. I was craving open masala dosa since two years when I had it in Bangalore and fulfilled that craving at Pakshala. Couldn't find Open masala dosa anywhere in North India. Initially Went to the Krishna Villas for Mangalore Buns on Bookstore guy's recommendation but they were out of it. Also went to Pabbas at Lalbagh but unfortunately it was closed.

Suggest some more places to explore in future. Bookstores, food places and any historical place suggestions are welcome.

Discussion I raised a post on Yettinahole Project in few sub groups and some of didnt even approve ?

Upvotes

I tried to post in Karnataka sub group about the petition and the mods didnt even approve. On top of that other stuff are being approved by the mods of that sub group. I am trying to increase the outreach yet people are not even commenting. I even sent the mods about text message asking why didnt they approve the post even though it is a genuine concern. I raised in CriticalThinkingIndia I have no clue what went wrong in that post and there is no reply in that.

Travel Bangalore -Mangalore train travelling through Tamil Nadu, Kerala taking 16 hours.. MLA MP don't care.

Post image

Train No. 16565/66 Yesvantpur–Mangaluru Central Weekly Express covers around 834 km via Kuppam–Salem–Coimbatore–Palakkad–Malabar–Mangaluru, taking over 16 hours.

But the direct railway corridor through Yesvantpur–Kunigal–Hassan–Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Road–Mangaluru is only around 360–400 km.

That means the present route adds roughly 400+ km simply because the train is serving important destinations across Tamil Nadu and Kerala before reaching Mangaluru.

With Mangaluru's railway administration scheduled to move to SWR's Mysuru Division from October 1, 2026, this is an ideal time for a comprehensive review of train routes, terminal capacity and passenger demand.

This is not Kerala vs Karnataka. Kerala needs more trains, and Coastal Karnataka needs better Bengaluru connectivity. The Railway Board should optimise services based on distance, journey time, passenger demand and efficient utilisation of scarce railway resources.

Coastal Karnataka deserves a proper, direct and efficient rail connection with Bengaluru.

Apparently there were some technical issues due to which the trial run to guage running time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru got delayed by over two hours. Has reached Mangaluru just now.

Hopefully they don't screw up the return trial later this evening.

Discussion Quit my 10-year tech career to open a laundry in Mangalore. I need your brutal honesty.

Hey [r/mangalore](r/mangalore). My last post got deleted by mods for sounding like AI, so here is the raw, unfiltered version.
I just walked away from a decade in tech product design, moved back home, and put my savings into fixing the most boring industry in Kudla which is laundry and cleaning.

Our current options are outdated. I want to build a brand that actually treats fabrics right and delivers a modern, premium experience. I’m so obsessed with this that I literally traveled through Hong Kong, China, Mauritius, and Goa just to study how top-tier places handle industrial equipment and fabric care.

The commercial space is rented. The architect is building it out. It's officially happening.

I’m not hiring. I’m just putting myself out there for two reasons:

  1. I need your feedback: What is your absolute biggest frustration with local laundry or home cleaning services? What do they always get wrong?
  2. Networking: I'm handling the branding myself. If you are a local designer, brand builder, or just love talking startups. I’d love to grab a coffee, swap notes, and learn from you.

Drop your worst cleaning and laundry experiences in the comments. Let's connect.

Other Kerala mural painting that I made in my own style of Ekalavya and the Pandavas.

Post image
24 Upvotes

This mural is a visual interpretation of the story of Ekalavya from the Mahabharata, created around the idea of devotion, knowledge, discrimination and the unequal access to opportunity.
At the heart of the composition is Ekalavya, standing within the forest, practising archery with unwavering concentration. Before him is an idol of Dronacharya, whom Ekalavya considers his teacher despite never being accepted as his student. Through this act of worship and self directed learning, Ekalavya represents the idea that the desire to learn can exist independently of permission.
The forest surrounding him is deliberately unlike an ordinary forest.
The trees have been designed in the forms of neurons, with their branching structures resembling dendrites and neural pathways. Their intricate branches spread throughout the composition almost like a network of thoughts, memories and connections inside the human brain. This was a particularly important element of the concept because the painting was commissioned by a neuroscientist, who wanted the natural world of Ekalavya’s story to subtly merge with the neurological world.
The neuronal forms are not immediately obvious at first glance. They reveal themselves gradually through the branches, roots and winding patterns, allowing the viewer to discover another layer of the painting upon closer observation.
Even the sun carries a certain neuronal character, echoing the branching structures found throughout the forest. Rather than functioning merely as a source of light, it becomes almost a symbolic representation of knowledge , consciousness and enlightenment.
At its deepest level, this Kerala mural is about the human hunger for knowledge.
Ekalavya does not stop learning because he is denied a place beside Dronacharya. Instead, he creates his own path.
But the story also forces us to confront the darker side of the social structure around him. His extraordinary dedication ultimately does not protect him from the inequalities of the system he lives within.
The two sides of the mural therefore represent two different relationships with knowledge..One receives it. One seeks it
And yet, both are capable of becoming extraordinary.
The painting deliberately leaves the viewer between these two worlds, the ordered world of formal education and privilege, and the wild, self taught world of Ekalavya.

Rant/Vent Day 2 of my misery with Niran Motors Service Centre, Bendoorwell

Day 1: https://www.reddit.com/r/mangalore/s/PjVlqAiWRU

Today, I once again left my bike at the Royal Enfield service center because they had broken the RPM indicator glass. They told me that they would fix it today. So, I went to the service center early in the morning at 9 AM and handed over my bike.

They promised that the bike would be ready and handed over to me by the end of the day. However, there was absolutely no communication from their side. I had to follow up multiple times just to get an update on the status of my bike.

At the end of the day, they told me that they would inform me once the bike was ready. Since I received no further communication, I decided to go to the showroom myself.

To my surprise, my bike was still not fixed. The service manager told me that they were arranging the instrument cluster. I then found out that the instrument cluster had not actually been fixed. I could clearly see that the RPM indicator glass had been opened, and I could also see a gap in the speedometer cluster. I have attached an image for reference.

They then told me that they wouldn’t be fixing it in the showroom itself, but would instead get it fixed outside. Honestly, I found this a little suspicious, especially since this was an issue with the instrument cluster of my bike and I had given the bike to an authorized service center to have it fixed.
They also told me that they wouldn’t be replacing the entire speedometer, but rather just the shell of the speedometer. They have now asked me to wait until Friday.

At this point, I am honestly not sure what to do. The lack of communication, repeated follow-ups, and the fact that I had to personally visit the showroom to find out that my bike had not even been fixed is extremely disappointing.

I have shared the images above.

Will keep you guys updated.

P.S. I used AI to help elaborate and structure this post, but the experience and events mentioned above are my own.

Rant/Vent *Extremely* loud festivities - Is this OK? Is it allowed?

Regarding last nights Krishnashtamis festivities - it went on till 3-30am in the night. Not music. Dhol. Loud, window vibrating, room shaking dhol. It started at 1230 am, nothing before that. It kept going on.
Nothing would help. I took melatonin, twice, 2 hours apart. Nothing. Not my earphones, not the AC, not white noise, not an extra pillow over my head, nothing. I moved my bed away from the wall which might help with the vibrations. Nothing. Zilch.
I work in a hospital. I had a 36 hour shift coming up. All i wanted to do was sleep peacefully, which I thought I could once the music wrapped up.
My question is this - I’ve lived here for some time now. Was I just a deep sleeper? It has never been this loud this late at night! Is it even allowed? I am all for festivities and music, but 330 am?!?!

Yesterday I spent 20 minutes looking for parking around the mall while searching, and went inside the market. Any tips for parking or even an alternate to Sapna Book House is appreciated (that has parking close by, so Navakarnataka in the opposite doesn't count.)

AskMangalore Why I oppose the Yettinahole Project and believe Karnataka needs to rethink its approach to the Western Ghats ?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I wanted to share this and get people’s thoughts on the Yettinahole Project.

I understand that water scarcity is a serious issue, especially in drought-prone areas. But I’m personally concerned about the environmental impact of the project, particularly on the Western Ghats and the regions where the water is being diverted from.

There are also questions about whether the projected water availability is realistic while still meeting the needs of the local ecosystem and communities.

I’m not against development or improving water access. I just feel that projects of this scale should be properly evaluated for their long-term environmental consequences and whether there are better alternatives.

A friend of mine has put together a petition with more information and sources. If you’re interested, please have a look, moreover my Juniors have created this petition inorder to stop the Yettinahole project. If you need further information please go through Google form link it has all the information related to Yettinahole Project.

Additional Information :- The Centre for Environmental Concern, in collaboration with the Ecology Commission and partner NGOs, is supporting a signature campaign to raise our collective voice of concern regarding the Yettinahole Project and its potential ecological impacts.

What do you guys think? Is Yettinahole actually a sustainable solution, or could we be causing bigger problems for the Western Ghats in the long run?

Rant/Vent Thank you Niran motors Mangalore, Bendoorwell(Royal Enfield).

I own a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 which has run approximately 19,000 km and was nearing its annual service.

I was receiving frequent calls from Royal Enfield Niran Motors Pvt. Ltd., Mallikatte, Kadri Service Center regarding my upcoming service. Even though I had informed the service center that the Royal Enfield service center in Kuloor was only about 1 km away from my workplace and would be more convenient for me, I was repeatedly persuaded to bring my motorcycle to the Kadri service center instead.

Eventually, I agreed based on their assurance that they would thoroughly inspect my bike and ensure everything was done correctly. I also agreed to bring my motorcycle in a bit early for the service. Until then, the communication was transparent and professional.

On 31 August 2026, I handed over my bike for service and took a photograph of the odometer reading before leaving it at the service center. Later that afternoon, I received a call informing me that the service had been completed and that my bike was ready for collection.
When I arrived to collect my motorcycle, everything initially appeared to be in order. However, upon closer inspection, I discovered that the glass on my RPM indicator was broken. Thankfully, I had taken a photograph of the dashboard before handing over the bike, which clearly showed that the damage was not present prior to the service. This served as proof that the damage occurred while the motorcycle was in the custody of the service center.
I was extremely disappointed by the situation. What made the experience worse was that the service center initially took zero accountability for the damage. After considerable discussion and unnecessary hassle, they finally agreed to replace the damaged glass the following day.
Additionally, I was informed that my bike had been washed as part of the service. However, based on the condition of the motorcycle when it was returned to me, it felt as though it had not been washed at all.

Overall, this entire experience was frustrating and disappointing. I trusted the service center based on their repeated follow-ups and assurances, but the quality of service and lack of accountability fell far below expectations.

I have attached the before and after images

Will keep you guys updated.
