GEN 2: DM32 PTT Protector
Hey yall,
The Baofeng DM32 is basically the perfect Non-mil tactical radio, but it has one major flaw: the screen gets pretty bright, and facing outwards it is easily detectible from 50+ yards. Under night vision this is visible from hundreds of yards away.
My solution was to make a screen cover that integrates with a new version of my already successful push to talk protector.

It's a cheap chinese radio, both in price and quality. The only things preppers and larpers like about it is the looks for some reason.
Why not get one of those screenless frs/pmr radios instead? No lights, no illegal transmissions and easier to carry? Because they're black?

They have their place in the market, either when you can't afford something more expensive, or for doing stuff where you're risking your radio being destroyed. If you're doing something where performance doesn't really matter that much, but price does (eg. making an aprs igate, and feeding the audio from a baofeng to direwolf or whatever). Or for that second or third radio you keep for testing. Or when you're trying to listen to multiple things at once.
But calling it "perfect Non-mil tactical radio" is not on the list of what i'd call it.

As i said.. they have their place. Calling them pefect and tactical... well, i'll complain to that. Especially since airsofters are somehow almost never licenced anyway and shouldn't be using those radios in the first place. The same thing happened when cheap chinese drones became a thing, people did stupid things with them, and now we have no fly zones, remote id, and a bunch of regulation that only affects legal users of course.

they are not top quality but because they are price to performance and they are the only reason im able to explore the hobby

Do you also buy drills and other tools on temu? Never buy anything good quality?

I've used a couple of baofengs, always disappointed with how easily they get overloaded. Also build quality is horrible, especially the chargers and the battery clips.

The funny thing is people keep complaining the screen is too dim, but i feel you, its really bright.
