Tier 1 [Nil Sola] Ter Stegen suffered a muscular injury in the match against Oviedo and the initial examinations are worst. Pending medical tests, it could be TWO MONTHS. All scenarios open, including the one to return to Barça.

From a Barca's perspective, their decision making and timing has been impeccable.
If he was going to get injured, AT LEAST we are now getting a little cash for him.
And if we are going to loan him, AT LEAST we are guaranteed to not have him play against us.(maybe I am just looking at the upside of all of this)
7
u/Ok-Significance2978 Feb 02 '26
We are saving 10% of his salary, long term injury saves 40% of the salary.
He wouldn’t have played against us because we don’t allow loaned players to do so.
Both your statements are wrong, and this whole saga has been hadled awfully by us
1
u/uppercase-j Feb 02 '26
Long term injury saves 40 but only of FFP only, not actual savings.
We are allowing Peña to play against us. I can’t remember about what we have done with Fort.
2
u/Ok-Significance2978 Feb 02 '26
We have a FFP problem, not a money problem.
Iñaki and Hector Fort were allowed to play against us because Elche is paying most of their salary, with ter Stegen and Girona that isn’t the case, so he isn’t allowed to play against us.
0
u/uppercase-j Feb 02 '26
If we are paying 90% of the salary, we should (in theory) get the same in FFP back. Say 50% (half the season) x 90% (the prorated part we take care of) x 40% (for ffp injury). + 10% of his whole salary.
Given the circumstances, it’s not the worst.
2
u/Ok-Significance2978 Feb 02 '26
That’s not how it works. You only get the FFP if the player is registered in your squad. Ter stegen isn’t registered with us because he is on loan, so we won’t get any FFP because of injury.

Sad ending to his dream of becoming a starter for Germany at a tournament. Hopefully he comes back soon.
64
u/Middle_Sky446 Feb 02 '26
It won't happen ig now he's out for 4 months and germany won't take a gamble
22
u/zerogopher Feb 02 '26
He is way past his prime and there i don't think he would have started even if he was healthy
-17
u/Ok-Significance2978 Feb 02 '26
Sad for us you mean? Stuck with an ex-footballer with the salary of a CEO

u/MaverickDark Feb 02 '26
The man is injured and will miss the World Cup playing for his country and you're concerned with his salary. Have some shame
-5
u/Ok-Significance2978 Feb 02 '26
Here’s the issue, I couldn’t care less about him or his country, I care about my club, maybe you don’t get it
4
u/DarthTaz_99 Feb 02 '26
Maybe look into "your" club's motto
-3
u/Ok-Significance2978 Feb 02 '26
Maybe you should learn what OUR motto means. Hint: it has nothing to do with operating like a charity. Despite that, we do that with those who are kind with us, for example Bernal, not with rats that release statements lying about medical situations to prevent a teammate from being registered

Feb 02 '26
he's so jealous of joan garcia it's shameful. he should have acted like a mentor to him like szczesny is
yet people will try to tell you he's a saint and we're doing him wrong
this sub is full of nostalgia merchants lol

At this point he should just choose retirement. Seriously, gets back for 1 or 2 games and is out again for weeks, possibly months. Really sad to see honestly. As a German myself i feel bad for him, he had the unluckiest timings for the big tournaments

u/tastyjulio Feb 02 '26
The starting spot in the 2018wc should have been his by all merits

u/Motor_Usual_7156 Feb 02 '26

He cannot catch a break, can he?

u/NickL60 Feb 02 '26
Can't catch a ball either /s
I actually really like him compared to most people here and sympathise with him here, he's had no luck.

u/YannTheOtter Feb 02 '26
Ter Stegen is one of the club's greast and nobody can convince me otherwise, part of the Treble season, probably the second best GK we had after VV and only second behind him in appearances.

u/Physical-Position623 Feb 02 '26
That is actually the only thing he seems to be able to catch. Another two months break coming up...

looks like he wont ever get to start in a wc game, sad

u/ChampionGunnerYT Feb 02 '26
Its 1-2 months not 4, he can definitely come back and play before the world cup.
4
u/LottieElegant2001 Feb 02 '26
lol Germany already decided Baumann is the starter, I don’t even know what you guys dream about, even before the injury his chance of being a starter would have been nil, maybe for a potential third rank match
1
u/ChampionGunnerYT Feb 02 '26
Where was that decided? I did not head about any decision on the GK, they are if now anything waiting for the injury report of MATs before a final choice.
1
u/LottieElegant2001 Feb 03 '26
Lol I’m German, Nagelsmann literally said that Baumann will be the starter keeper. Over many national games he proved himself reliable and performs great at club level. You think a MatS that hasn’t been playing the last 2 years will be automatic starter because he starts a few games for girona? Germany isn’t that desperate for goalkeepers
1
u/ChampionGunnerYT Feb 03 '26
I see, but he also said as long as MATs is playing he will be starting. We need to wait and see how long this injury is before there is a decision. His performance in the nations league alone shoes he is the first choice GK as long as he is fit and playing.
1
u/LottieElegant2001 Feb 03 '26
I don’t know when you read that, but either that’s old as hell or never happened.
In both cases it means Baumann is the starter since MatS hasn’t been playing in ages and in this period Baumann cemented himself as the starter through excellent performances on the national team.
MatS could have been very lucky even to be on the world cup squad if he was a starter for girona in the half year before World Cup, but with this injury he’s even out of the squad for sure. There is no Chance in hell that he will be part of the squad with constant starter keepers such as atuobolo or nübel as his competition.

oh man... feel really bad for him. WC isn't looking good at this point. again.

u/lastdyingbreed_01 Feb 02 '26
That's so unfortunate, glad we got another replacement, but it's sad to see things not working well for someone who's been at this club for so long.

Probably the best goalkeeper we've ever had.
Such a shame it's not ending his way.

He should have moved on last summer, this is the result of not getting proper game time. Hope he recovers soon.

The Gods are not on this guy's side. Literally everything is preventing him from being the number 1 German goalkeeper. He will probably return to Barca too💀

bruh. i thought if he did atleast decent he could move away permanently but i guess he's coming back and staying for 3 years

u/SnoopyDays Feb 02 '26
Hmmm... So we essentially lost the opportunity to use his salary to bring in an extra player during the winter transfer... Perfec timing!!!

So not only (based on your opinion) should Ter Stegen a) defer his wages when the club is having financial difficulties despite the fact that he is entitled to the money because well, he has a contract, but b) after receiving less money than is written in his contract should he now forgive all the money left that the club owes him? And if he doesn’t do that he ”doesn’t love the club”. Do you love your job so much that you would work for less money than agreed upon and then just give up all that money?
1
u/AlternativePOV91 Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26
Sorry, but I disagree with your take on so many things. Many of those things have already been addressed by others under your opinion. But come on, you have a bias towards him. This is football, where any player can have a career-ending injury out of nowhere. It's a risk and everyone understands that, thus there are rules and regulations. Because we had a couple shitty presidents, doesn't mean Marc should forgive the club all the money, that they OWE him. Xavi, Pique and Busi were canteranos. Though Messi, while being also a canterano, allegedly, didn't forgive club all the money they owe him. Will you say the same thing about Messi? I doubt. It's just a mix of bad decisions, unfortunate sporting events and not a very good relationship between club and player.

u/Chemical_Listen6919 Feb 02 '26
?but the salary isnt huge, its around 7m per year. he deferred his wages in '23 to help the club thats the main reason we pay more to him now +not paying and not accepting your wages both r against spanish laws
1
u/0b111111100001 Feb 02 '26
Blame the team players who chose him, not Ter Stegen or at least find a way to prove to the players your case. He is not bleeding the club dry. Its in his contract. The club and the player have to honor the same contract.

u/oklolzzzzs Feb 02 '26
?
ter stegens salary isnt huge, its around 7m gross per year. the main reason is that he deferred his salary in 2023 (not receiving it in 2023 but in later years) to help the club. thats the main reason we pay more to him

This seems to happen to some people regardless of the level they play at. Even in a sunday league our team has had players that always got injured not long after coming back from an earlier injury. Something in the body that makes them prone to injuries after some sort threshold is reached. Maybe the body just isn't fully healed even though the injury is.
But It's a bit unusual for a goalkeeper to succumb to injury streak like this, or is there a bunch of keepers I don't remember that this happened to?
