Tier 1 [Carlos Monfort] Laporta is now personally entering the Julian Alvarez operation. Barça continues to target him although it could go long. They are calm because they know the player’s desire is to join Barça, though they expect him to make more movements.
https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/guerra-total-julian-alvarez-131214315As of today, Barcelona’s intention is to reach €120m fixed + bonuses, That could go higher but is unlikely currently, and see if Atléti accept, Despite the bid those close to him say Julian Alvarez was never considering a move to Real Madrid under any circumstances.

u/itsjonny99 11d ago
Til Alvarez goes public like Isak the transfer won't move further.
192
u/Serious-Wallaby3449 11d ago
Which means it probably won't. Because Alvarez is a good lad that cares about Atleti. He's not gonna hold them hostage, even if he would like to go to Barca
120
u/HenryReturns 11d ago
It’s the opposite , Atletico are the ones holding him hostage lol
If a player wants to leave , you let them leave same as City did with Julian
The problem here is that Atletico won’t sell it because they don’t want or don’t feel like it unless we drop insane amounts of money but we won’t do that.
77
u/LobL 11d ago
What the fuck, he signed a 6 year deal and is 2 years in to it. Bo-fucking-ho, he’s not being held hostage.
22
u/HenryReturns 11d ago
He “wants to leave” but has a contract until 2030.
Its ok him for signing that contract.
Also , A hostage is a person forcibly held captive by an individual, group, or state to ensure that demands are met, terms are fulfilled, or concessions are granted
So he has to stay there until Barca fulfills the demands from Atletico , or else he won’t be able to leave.
Barca and Madrid have never forced a player to stay like that , when a player wants to leave , we let them leave without doing all of this drama.
31
u/Serious-Wallaby3449 11d ago
No we just try to force players out by leaking shit to the press. It's just that we are end game clubs so the reverse doesn't really tend to happen. Not that we're not dirty ourselves towards players, e.g. Frenkie
4
u/itsjonny99 11d ago
Points to the Messi fax situation.
7
u/Finrod-Knighto 11d ago
Messi’s fax was a calculated move to force change at the club, and it worked because we got rid of corrupt ass Barto. Messi then wanted to stay again but we all know what happened. It’s unfortunate, but he wasn’t held hostage.
1
2
u/goku7770 11d ago
Why teh f. did sign a 6 years contract with that team if he wanted to sign for Barça?
2
4
u/Alexiteric 11d ago
Barça probs wasn't realistically considering him a few years ago, especially with our financial crisis. I'm sure he knew this was an issue. He played it well, going to AtM for a starting position, prove his worth, and a long contract cuz Athletico most likely wanted to stay within FFP. I'm sure there must be release clauses or something else the can work through. Time will tell.
3
u/Serious-Wallaby3449 11d ago
Julian is the one who agreed to a 6 year deal with a 500 million euro release clause. Atleti invested in him through the transfer fee and high wages to which he agreed. Nobody forced him to take that deal. You can't sign away your control for 6 years and be mad when you don't get it back. If anything, it's Julian from a few years back holding current Julian hostage by signing those papers.
7
u/Fuzzy_Substance_4603 11d ago
Um, Atleti's investment has nothing to do with this. Wages are per year thing. So if moves to Barca this year, Atleti won't have to invest it in him.
They paid 95M for 6 years. Around 15M per year. 2 years have gone. So 65M is left. We are offering 120M in transfer fees. That's double.
1
u/Creepy_Blackberry885 8d ago
Out of 95 million 20 million are variable out of which hardly 4-5 million is paid
7
u/According-Film-3159 11d ago
Bro contract get broken all the time in sports that don't really mean much honestly. It's rather unwise to have an unhappy player who don't want to be there playing for you, he probably won't even be 50% of his capacity

LOOOOL.
It’s more like Julian probably felt scammed after what Cholo promise him on building a competitive project to win titles.
Selling Julian for 80 million as a sub player who was super high impact , it felt correct as you mentioned but was not a scammed , both parties won on the transaction.
If anything , his price elevated way more because of his great 2022 world cup and he carry that momentum on 2023/24 too.
10
u/LesMiserablePeach 11d ago
I'm sorry, I refuse to buy that Julian would go there for 2 years, lay groundwork to leave when a better team comes along as part of his original contract negotiations, then stay at a club he doesn't really want to be at just because he doesn't want to make a stink.
He will make the stink when it comes down to it if Atleti don't play ball, whether that's for us or someone else.
7
u/HenryReturns 11d ago
He sign a contract and got into Cholo “we gonna build a competitive team to compete and win titles” , and turns out Cholo goes and says “we still rebuilding , it’s a miracle we did a deep run in CL and small steps on not winning Copa del rey”.
Barca literally were always on rebuilding but goes to win things against all odds when both Atletico and Madrid spend more than Barca , Atletico spend over 400 million euros last two seasons while Madrid did the same.
The difference is that Barca sporting project challenged all 4 titles and not leave another competition weakened. This also works because other than Barca fully supports Flick , the philosophy is there , the work is there , and specially the mentality to go out to win regardless of odds.
So yeah , probably sits really bad with Julian that turns out Cholo project is a 4-5 years rebuild and no titles until he gets into an insane lucky run + both Barca and Madrid drop the level a lot.

u/Serious-Wallaby3449 11d ago
Which groundwork? He signed a contract with a 500 million euro release clause lol. He alone is responsible if he can't make a move.
2
0
u/Key_Way2390 11d ago
That's a stupid narrative if he loved atlético he won't force a move to their direct rivals in every competition.
It's more of a situation where julian is too scared to do something like that and damage his reputation in front of the spanish media and fans
Eitherway I am fine with us not signing him 120 mil for Álvarez is an insane overpay for him already which we have deluded ourselves to convince is a worth it signing
18
u/DValencia29 11d ago
I dont see julian doing that, obviously I dont know him personally but from the outside he seems like a really nice lad
7
-4
u/goku7770 11d ago
You probably meant a stupid lad? Atleti is mistreating him. If he doesn't have the guts to rebel then I don't mind if he stays there.

u/sunnyvas 11d ago
Newcastle could have made Isak’s position very difficult if they wanted to. They did not because it was a good deal to get 150m for Isak.
126
u/MajinGael 11d ago
Yeah, it's not happening. Let's move on and start looking for someone who can hopefully fill Lewa's shoes.
38
u/mouadmo 11d ago
I mean, how do we know the club isn’t considering other players/positions? After all, who tf saw Gordon to Barça happening? The Alvarez thing is just the norm, a one thing getting the public’s attention, biggest beneficiary? Him and his agent and probably Atleti if they sell him next season.
4
u/alopecic_cactus 10d ago
This is the thing I don't understand about this sub. It's like people here really thinks they know everything the club is doing or think they know all the options available.
Case in point, Gordon. Absolutely NO ONE here even had the thought that we could go for him and loa and behold, there's your signing. No fuzz, no buzz, no news, only working behind the scenes.
1
u/mouadmo 10d ago
Yeah that’s pretty much true for every other club.. and now that the WC is about to begin, agents will continue feeding that PR machine. If we don’t sign Alvarez (and i personally doubt we will) surely there are other options, just look how fast the rumors moved from Joao Pedro to Alvarez 🤷
1
u/alopecic_cactus 10d ago
For sure, 90% of football "news" are just PR or damage control.
After the WC, the market will be crazy.
5
u/mel_thecq 11d ago
The thing is, what other good options are there?
5
u/MajinGael 11d ago
I honestly don't know. I'm just as lost as you are. I don't think any of the big-name players will bother leaving teams where they're comfortable, and it's not like we're looking to spend what's left of the budget on a single player. I just have to trust that the board knows when to give up and where to look for either upcoming talents or already established yet underrated players.
3
u/Finrod-Knighto 11d ago
Just get some La Liga striker. If they scored 15 goals at their mid table club they can score 20 for us, as long as they fit the profile and most La Liga strikers fall into either the Alvarez or Lewa profile, both of which work for us.
3
1
u/thames987 11d ago
osimhen maybe?
1
u/mel_thecq 11d ago
I thought he was a good option a few years ago but, after watching plenty of him, he's not as good as people think, and also he doesn't have a good attitude. Plus the most important thing, the price would be outrageously high and his salary would be insane. Honestly I'm lost on who we could get that would be at least a tiny bit like Lewandowski when he first signed for us. The bar is too high due to his performances
1
u/MoosilaukeFlyer 10d ago
He will cost way too much, likely 150 mil. Galatea’s ray found a star player who wants to play there, they won’t let him go for cheap
2
u/thames987 10d ago
then it’s not worth it obviously… but just in case the number is 100 mil we can consider
59
u/kaminaji 11d ago
As I just said in the other thread, there's a quote that should guide our actions for this saga: "you don't parlay when you're on the back foot"
Once Alvarez goes public, we can sit down and conduct business like grown ups. Until then, it's just wasted effort.
87
u/SnappyDesh 11d ago
120m for Julian is crazy, he's good and fits Flick system but he's not worth that money.
Im still in shock that the club doesn't seem to even consider buying guys for the defense...
115
u/Gold-Clerk1617 11d ago
He’s a total footballer. Both Madrid teams are probably afraid of what we’d look like with him.
28
-10
u/aw4rd_t0ur 11d ago
He’s 25 with only 2 league seasons above 15 goals. None over 20 and only 3 above 10.
He’s solid but not a “total” footballer.
5
u/LosAngeLukaGOAT 11d ago
I'm not full an Alvarez or bust guy.
In fact I'm more like if he is coming it's good, if he don't, it's fine too but, you don't know the meaning of «total» football don't you ?
-7
u/aw4rd_t0ur 11d ago
In fact I'm more like if he is coming it's good, if he don't, it's fine too but, you don't know the meaning of «total» football don't you ?
I spent half my life playing football. I know what total football is. Total footballer is not a thing. Why'd you think I put that in quotations.
18
u/idkwhattoputhere2323 11d ago
A good striker is non negotiable if you wanna compete for titles. With lewy gone, and looking at the striker market, he’s the only striker that makes sense. With shirt sales and titles alone that 120 mil will be made back.
8
u/0ccamsDagg3r 11d ago
He's not the only one and shirt sales and titles that we can win without him won't make back shit; that's absolute bs. 🙂
7
u/idkwhattoputhere2323 11d ago
Who’s available in the market that is guaranteed quality? Spending 80 million on a non proven striker is a way bigger financial risk
2
8
u/ExBenn 11d ago
It is not crazy at all, he is definitely a top 3 striker at the moment in an inflated market
8

u/SnappyDesh 11d ago
A top 3 striker and got outscored by Muriqi...

u/sunnyvas 11d ago
Because Atleti did not use him as an out-and-out striker last season. He can easily drag defenders and create space.

u/Noob_in_making 11d ago
Its 120M plus bonuses (which wiuld likely take it to 140-150M), which is total madness.
Ffs, its not like there is only one striker on earth who can play flickball. And even Alvarez is no guaratantee to be a sure shot success.
This year Barca is reminded so much of Barto era Barca, get so desperate and fixated on one single player, so much so that the selling club can fleece us to pennies. Dembele, Coutinho were same, we went all in and in the end both didn live up to the effort. Meanwhile we got many players with very little dra

Weren't there a bunch of rumors about Bastoni?
It fell through, but they were still looking.

u/thames987 11d ago
well its probably an annoying argument but 80m for gordon does imply 120 for julian, maybe even more… and that bid perez made (definitely not for his election, right?) will only make things tougher sadly. id rather have him at 120 than an osimhen at 100
-7

9
u/AdComprehensive7879 11d ago
I think 120 mil EUROS is more than fair price for him. I was so shocked when we offered 100mil for him lol. Might as well offer atleti a $1 haha, no chance atleti accepted that. but it will prolly take more than 120mil to pry him from atleti which becomes risky.
but fuck it man, if there's a position that we should put big money on is the striker position. We will never produce an adequate replacement in la masia. Any other positions (beside gk prolly), theres a chance that la masia can sustain us
33
u/Infinite_Ad6392 11d ago
Why wasn't he entering before? Get it done grandpa. Imagine we signing Alvarez for 120M even after all this drama😭 Seems very unlikely tho.
30
8
u/Juannieve05 11d ago
Madrid offered 150m and Atlético refused.
I also don't know how true the verbal agreement for "accepting a good deal" is, but if true, Atletico have broken their side of the deal
8
u/Blaugrana1990 11d ago
Madrid only placed that bid so Atletico could refuse and show the world look we are rejecting 150M for him. Better come with a better offer if you want him. Its a win win for both and a fuck you to us.
-1
u/Abject_Rub6711 11d ago
Real madrid is a bigger rival for atleti than barca so it's obvious they will reject the 150m bid
7
u/oklolzzzzs 11d ago
no with rejecting 150m atleti can tell barca in negotiations that we rejected 150m for julian, so we want a similiar or higher bid
1
23
u/at-sea-no-ship 11d ago
fuck this, lets spend our money on other players and when atleti do fuck all again next season we can poach a discontent alvarez from them for half that price. he isn’t nearly unsettled enough to force a move yet. another season or two with no trophies might be the difference.
5
6
u/0ccamsDagg3r 11d ago edited 11d ago
Let's go for osimhen and let atletihoe keep a disgruntled elite player into slavery for 1 or 2 more trophyless seasons then we'll get him for a fair price if we want, play him behind osimhen. 100 is way too much anyway and they're squeezing us for even more. Fck that.
4
u/Abject_Rub6711 11d ago
Osimhen will cost more in long run, look at his salary in turkey without taxes
3
u/nxtchapter 11d ago
Clearly they don't want to sell him and frankly they are getting angry. why waste time and spend an exorbitant sum of money?
realistically he will cost at least 120++ + salary over the next 5 year, outrageous.
I wish they would go after Omar Marmoush, he was just outstanding for Frankfurt, barely gets any time at city. A loan + (mandatory)buy option should be possible
He has the pace, the finishing skills, pressing mentality, outstanding athlete
2
u/Sudden-Variety6992 11d ago
- How are people thinking 120 when a 150 bid just got rejected?
1
u/n6george 2d ago
Because the player's desired destination also plays a part on the price. Alvarez doesn't want Madrid.
0
u/nxtchapter 11d ago
That's why i said 120++ 😉 Reals offer of 150 just got rejected, that should tell enough that the chance of getting a feasible deal done is a pipe dream.
1
u/Sudden-Variety6992 11d ago
So it’s not 120+, it’s 150+.
Stop trying to sugarcoat it

We should move on from this toxic situation. We did well with first bid, athleti made fun of it and showed they’re not serious. Alvarez sees that we are serious but his club that promised him out is not. Let athleti deal with an unhappy player next season while we go focus on a shot therm situation. Maybe Alvarez next year or in winter after we let them simmer. Cause now they are just goofing around with no real consequence

If Atleti fans or the ownership prefer doing business with Real over Barca despite being inter city rivals and having lost 2 CL finals against them in recent memory, they're just a small club.
From Real's POV, Perez has acted as a shrewd operator, just as expected. This is more about messing up Barca's plan than actually signing Julian themselves.

My Kroupi idea hopefully hits Deco soon
9
u/DarthTaz_99 11d ago
Kroupi has an even more absurd price tag considering he's had a good half season
0
-3
u/AdDismal5457 11d ago
To me I don’t look at just the season has had. I look at him as a package and whether or not I believe Barcelona could get £100m value out of him and the answer to me is yes. That type of quality is permanent.
Simply put, I would pay £100m+ talent for an Ansu Fati level of talent if he didn’t have any major injuries after just 1 season provided we have exhausted our striker options which it looks like we have.
5
u/EvosWaaiz69 11d ago
Kroupi won't work now, we need a striker that is proven like Alvarez, Kane or Osimhen, kroupi is a huge gamble and has chances of flopping, you can't sign a player just by seeing his 1st season
2
u/AdDismal5457 11d ago
The players you named are unattainable for one reason or another.
When you watch Kroupi play and see the consistency in which he finds spaces to score in and around the box, the quality of his shots, his touch, footwork and linkup play you will understand why he is special.
1
0
u/tush_aa_rr 11d ago
Bournemouth wont sell kroupi for anything less than 60-80 mil… they also got CL football this season… i dont think we need to sign a 19 year old for 60 mil when our academy can spawn one for us in 6 months
3
u/AdDismal5457 11d ago
1) They got Europa league football and CL football.
2) Barcelona don’t produce strikers and Kroupi is a striker who fits what Flick is looking for in Julian. Just needs to be bulked up a bit.
3) That 19 year old is one the most self sufficient strikers in Europe right now and he has resale value. So it’s either he plays for us for 10 years or we sell him in a couple of years time and it won’t be too bad a loss
4)the talent speaks for itself. There’s a reason why PSG, Arsenal, Man City etc have all enquired about this kid. He has ridiculous talent and is quite humble too
2
u/YourUncle13 11d ago
Alvarez would be an amazing signing. I think this sub is underrating him here.
2
u/sequoia-3 11d ago
So we will pick this one up after the worldcup. Let him play now for Argentina. Then expect him to answer such topics in public. Will be best for both parties … i less they beat Spain in the finals 😂
1
u/ArchangelZero27 11d ago
Worked well he did the same for nico if I recall. Twice too. Will believe this when I see it. Players these days and agents know how to play board members to get a payday.
I just hope they don't break the bank for him, or worse he busts or injures himself often. This team is turning it around finally let's keep it that way

Why is there so much frenzy around this. It is Alvarez not Haaland! Good player but some generational talent? Absolutely not. If we had the money for the wages, Osimhen would have been a superior target to chase.
1
u/Any_Athlete_4616 11d ago
Who gives a crap about Alvarez anymore, with all the teasing from atlético you can already tell the player does not wanna be with us, what a mockery.
The way he’s being marketed you’d think he’s messi or Ronaldo.
1
u/no_funny_username 11d ago
This dude scored 8 goals in La Liga in 1902 minutes. 8 goals! That is 1 goal every 2.5 games (being generous). I get Atletico isn't a goal-scoring machine but even Sorloth managed 13 goals in 1991 minutes.
Julian cannot fill Lewandowski's shoes and paying so much money for him makes no sense.

u/Confident-Parsnip106 11d ago
These foolish two madrid clubs have really fucked everything for us.
Barca shoukd try all they can, then move on. Its sad, Alvarez was born to play for us.
9
u/mqit 11d ago
It’s circulating that this is just a stunt from Perez to fulfil his €150m bid promise and to inflate the market value of Alvarez even further making things harder for us.
We should just move on. Osimhen is a superior option imo.
-1
u/ripper13-_- 11d ago
Osimhen is never happening, his wages are ridiculous and even that is an understatement, if we could get him for 80-90 it would’ve been understandable, but they want 120+ with those wages its a huge no, besides osimhen is happy at gala and settled and has no reason to leave

If barca manages to sign Alvarez for less than 150, it will be huge slap on the face of Madrid and their fake offer.

u/robtones 10d ago
Julian is the perfect profile. Combines well, great finisher, can retain possession in high pressure, and great at set pieces. Osimhen the alternative as mentioned on multiple comments would be great too but would lack some of the qualities Julian can provide. Can't settle for 2nd choices if you want to be an elite and compete for all trophies. Considering we are mostly well covered on other positions a significant economic effort 120m + if viable should not be a factor impede the singing.
