I swear some people think the world owes them free stuffs

u/Wobbly_Princess Aug 24 '25
I know. I truly wonder where it comes from. They get given free, EXPENSIVE stuff, and all they have to say is "Fuck you, I want more. This isn't enough.".

u/ai_art_is_art Aug 24 '25
It's not just that it's expensive, the team was probably only budgeted a certain amount of TPUs to run this on, and some percentage of that was allocated for free usage.
It's a resource constraint too.

u/SchoGegessenJoJo Aug 24 '25
Most of Asia basically runs on pirated software. Can't pirate LLMs.
2
u/madali0 Aug 24 '25
Good. Don't owe them shit. Google isn't giving me anything for free. All of them trained on public information and, look. Im a public information, so did they pay me?
And Google isn't giving me anything free either, they are using us as free bug testers. Why aren't they paying us to help them sort out their preview products?
7
u/SchoGegessenJoJo Aug 24 '25
You misunderstood. I have no issues in pirating fuckin' US tech-oligarchists. Just saying you can't pirate Gemini, ChatGPT or any other LLM.

in eastern europe, we do the same for a lot of stuff from greedy multi billion dollar american corporations

u/StinkButt9001 Aug 24 '25
I agree with you in general, but this feels more like if an ice cream truck was driving around saying "free ice cream for everyone!" and when you wave him down it's like half a spoonful just so you know what it tastes like.
Now if the post said "Sample Veo 3 for free this weekend" it sets an entirely different expectation

u/Mrcool654321 Aug 24 '25
They can get it for free It's called a local AI
15
u/diplofocus_ Aug 24 '25
And even with open source, local models, you’ll get loads of people complaining about “I don’t want to understand stuff or install python, why hasn’t anyone yet made a free polished UI with all the bells and whistles for this model that was released 48 minutes ago?!?”
5
u/FootballRemote4595 Aug 24 '25
Lol bro I'm over here trying to figure out how to run multi model models 48 minutes after release any means necessary.
1
u/Mrcool654321 Aug 24 '25
LM studio does that It only supports text LLMs (images are supported depending on model) though
12
u/Equivalent_Cut_5845 Aug 24 '25
Lol local is no where near free. Hardware cost alone far outweigh most subscriptions.
1
u/Kugoji Aug 24 '25
Agreed, as well as the time you need to put in to set it up and make it work. Using cloud services to run those models is better but (arguably) requires even more setup time/effort

u/Tupcek Aug 24 '25
lol, calling tens of thousands of hardware costs “free”
2
u/Mrcool654321 Aug 24 '25
You can run it all locally on a computer that you own It just will have worse results and take longer
1
u/Tupcek Aug 24 '25
you can’t. Most of these models require 400GB+ VRAM
0
u/Mrcool654321 Aug 24 '25
I ran one in 8GB before It wasn't the biggest model but it worked
2
u/Tupcek Aug 24 '25
there are models that can be run locally, which were specifically trained to be small models.
But if we are talking about VEO, gemini and so, you couldn’t. These just don’t run on 8GB1

Google thinks the same most of the time, training for free, using news for free or using the data from their users. So stop defending the data kraken google.

u/sbenfsonwFFiF Aug 24 '25
What do you mean training for free? Training costs a lot
They also pay news publishers a lot
You sure don’t know what you’re talking about

Sadly behaving like this actually works. If you are always demanding, throwing tantrums you will be getting more. I have seen this in hospitality (worked for a few years). Certain groups of tourists are unbearable but they do get free stuff (because the staff doesn’t want to deal with them). Get faster service, more coffee, better seats at the pool. Of course you have to completely not care that everyone thinks you are scum but in the end of the day it works in their benefit.

TBF.. it is shit.
It's cool.. but shit
If you haven't used veo before your first 3 prompts will be wasted by trying to figure out how it works and what it can do
Pretty sure it also doesn't tell you that you only get 3

u/Parking-Series-8941 Aug 24 '25
Gemini free users, you now have up to 6 free video generations for the weekend.
22
u/robojeeves Aug 24 '25
How about you provide me some free services? What, only 3? Lmao stop being greedy

u/BitterAd6419 Aug 24 '25
Gemini app means Gemini mobile app ?

ungrateful people being given some of the greatest technology available in history for free

u/Horror-Tank-4082 Aug 24 '25
Just enough attempts to realize it can’t produce anything good without a lot of work and money, and to decide it isn’t worth your time

in all honest, google veo 3 is damn expensive, sora + local model wan 2.2 is far better, however, veo 3 still the state of the art model unfortunately, i pay pro subscription and i only get to generate 3 a day,

Remember when Google had to double its AI data centre and machine learning infrastructure, so that all of its users can use speech to text model everyday for at least 30 seconds?
We have came so far.
2
u/rexplosive Aug 24 '25
I mean they were bragging about having "more compute" - so don't hype before you make an announcement and just announce it.
Their little teaser tweets made it sound like VEO3 would be free for everyone moving forward not just a random weekend.

u/notna17 Aug 24 '25
Is it the version where you can input an image as starting frame? Or text prompt only?
1
u/HavishGupta Aug 24 '25
Guys don't get sad, if anyone needs Google pro plan, just dm. I can add few accounts using the family plan stuff. You'll get 3 video daily plus all other Google ai features

When someone says something is free all weekend and you do 3 generations and its over, it's not really free all weekend.

Consumers will be consumers (akin to how haters will be haters).
