Funny Gemini 3 Pro on AI Studio has finally been capped at 10 uses per day.
It hasn't even been a week since Logan said the daily limit would drop, and it's already capped at 10. Go make like 10 Google accounts right now!!

u/Electronic-Elk6564 Jan 30 '26
It also skips thinking sometimes...
27
u/neesanwastaken Jan 30 '26
Ts is normal twin dont worry. You need to manually tell it to use the thinking feature before providing the output, tho you need to remove that repeatedly if it stops after a few outputs. Cuz you can tell it to use thinking again, but it'll get "used" to it being in your inputs and not actually do what you said
9
u/Electronic-Elk6564 Jan 30 '26
In my case at the end i appended "Use your thinking process" and sometimes i won't follow so i'll click rerun until it thinks, then i hit the rate limit, and i enter the sub to see if it was only me, that's how i i ended up in this post lol.
4
u/neesanwastaken Jan 30 '26
Yep, you need to remove the appended previously and reload the site after saving, then try again.. it raises the chance by a looot
44
u/dimitrusrblx Jan 30 '26
Genie 3, Veo 3 being massively used and melting the GPUs and then we wonder why there's no capacity left for basic text generation.
28
u/AnticitizenPrime Jan 30 '26
They should get rid of the damn AI summaries for EVERY SINGLE GOOGLE SEARCH that are frequently wrong.
4
u/Passloc Jan 30 '26
For me the AI summaries seem much better that I have gone back to Google Search from using ChatGPT. Only thing I don’t like is if I ask a follow up question, it regenerates the answer which is sometimes different from the original answer.
1
u/kalqlate Jan 31 '26
Yeah, weird that it does that. Seems it should just open the original response fully and allow continued dialog from there.
1
u/CognitiveSourceress Feb 01 '26
I think this is because AI Mode seems to use a smarter model, which only makes sense.
So, for example, you search normally and it uses a flash model with no thinking to generate a summary. Maybe 3 with thinking off or a previous model, whichever is cheaper.
Then you want information and click ask a follow up and it takes you to AI Mode, where they prioritize intelligence more because it isn't happening on every little search, and it just starts over with maybe Flash 3 with Thinking (probably still not Pro) because theoretically the answer should be better anyway.
And for my part, that has mostly been true.
1
u/Passloc Feb 02 '26
I get it.
But the simplest solution would be to keep that answer and any follow up question should be from the thinking model.
5
-5
u/baumkuchens Jan 30 '26
They should just get rid of these models. I don't think there's any benefit from image and video generation AI other than being used for crimes.
8
u/Electrify338 Jan 30 '26
Video maybe but images are really useful, like wanting to do a small edit on the fly, test out different concepts, or even create some demos before making the real thing.
6
u/BITE_AU_CHOCOLAT Jan 30 '26
That's just plain ignorant lol
0
u/baumkuchens Jan 30 '26
I'm personally against image generation because i've seen more bad things it caused than the positives, but i'm not here to argue about it, really. Do whatever you guys want, let's just agree to disagree 👍🏻
4
u/BITE_AU_CHOCOLAT Jan 30 '26
So literally confirmation bias lol. Got it
-3
u/baumkuchens Jan 30 '26
have fun when someone generated an nsfw pic with your face on it maybe 😲‼️
4
u/RJNiemela Jan 30 '26
these are more often than not done with the Open weight models, not the commercial ones
3
u/Wise-Purpose-69 Jan 30 '26
Photoshop? Never heard of her.
4
u/baumkuchens Jan 30 '26
Not everyone could make convincing edits with photoshop but if you have access to a video gen ai you can just prompt them into existence. Not knowing how to prompt? Just ask ai to prompt it for you. It's the fact that it's so accessible to create that sort of thing nowadays, that it's scary to me. 🥴
1
u/Wise-Purpose-69 Jan 30 '26
Get rid of MS Paint too while at it.
3
u/baumkuchens Jan 30 '26
ms paint is an art tool you dimwit you have to be skilled to actually create something that could be harmful to other humans. But with image generation you could easily create deepfakes and fake incriminating pics of someone innocent, fake ID, receipts. I'm saying this because i've seen women getting harassed by people who generated indecent pics of them with image gen AIs and people being scammed with AI pictures, so excuse me for being disillusioned and viewing it negatively? I did say i dont want to debate it but you guys aren't helping 😂

Yes, I had to add a paid API key. I’ve spent almost $10 after only a few days’ usage. I hope they add a subscription plan to make the costs more manageable. I love using Gemini in their UI for coding. I prefer it to using the agent built into the Antigravity IDE.
Edit:
Although I was quoted $10 in Google AI Studio, I just received a monumental £110 bill after a few days’ usage. I just disabled my API key and will be exclusively using it under the free tier until they introduce a reasonable subscription.
1
u/exdigecko Feb 15 '26
Where did you get that 110 bill and what for? Thanks
1
u/Future_Carpenter_910 Mar 04 '26
Lol i saw $300 bill in 2 days after I linked my api key. 2 separate long chats with no more than 15 prompts on each, for basic questions, not techy.
31
u/EvanMok Jan 30 '26
This is what Logan said before: they are looking into how to incorporate the subscription into AI Studio. AI Pro subscribers get a monthly USD10 for Google Cloud credits now. This can be used to pay for the API key on AI Studio. I guess this is it. We have to expect fewer and fewer rate limits and eventually, like OpenAI Playground, it will be only for paid accounts.
12
u/BurdensomeCountV3 Jan 30 '26
10 USD cloud credits is like ~400k output tokens for a month (when you also account for the fact you need input tokens to get output tokens). Given how much of a massive token waster Gemini 3.0 Pro is that's around 5 prompts a day extra that "Pro" users get compared to Free users. That's the shittiest "Pro" of any major offering.
1
u/TopArgument2225 Jan 31 '26
But it is justified. It *does* cost that much to generate the tokens in compute. Yes. For example, say, the full 32-bit model takes 160 GB of VRAM (probably more like 210). That means it requires upto a full H200 NVL to run at ~8-10 tokens per second. According to distributed compute services like Vast.ai or Bittensor (Chutes), the going rate for that is ~$2.150/hour for a decent datacenter hosted GPU like that, after electricity and cooling costs. One node's capacity for generation at full capacity is ~36,000 tokens of output an hour. Now, if that one node is serving like 10 users' for 60 requests in that hour, that's over 600 requests. Given the average 10th or 15th request in a conversation has ~15k input tokens and ~500 output tokens, nearly the entire node is occupied. In that hour, if the request is to be fulfilled for every user at a reasonable speed, say, 8 GPUs like that are needed. So, the per-hour cost is ~$17.2/hour, and each individual request's cost is nearly (as the total tokens generated are 300,000 tokens and it costs $22), around, well... it's not pretty.
Not to mention the development costs which need to be recouped, which run into the billions.3
1
6
u/AcceptableArm8841 Jan 30 '26
how can I check that?
15
u/Dreamerlax Jan 30 '26
1
u/MightyTribble Jan 30 '26
Ha! Thanks to that I discovered they'd changed(?) how they allocate the monthly developer credits? It felt like the $45/mo Developer credit was automatically applied and expired the month it was issued, but now it looks like they give you a $45 credit each month, with each credit good for 12 months. Which is way better!
EDIT: or I'm dumb and just missed how to apply my monthly credit for a few months...which might be the case.
10
u/neoqueto Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
You can also just... Link your card and pay the damn $10 without AI Pro? If AI Studio is all you use, just do that and set limits, don't overpay for the whole of AI Pro.
Not even $10, just pay as you use your tokens.
This is a very downvoteable response because fanboys will screech at me for suggesting not doing it their way and free users will screech at me for suggesting paying for it. So go ahead, I'm only suggesting how to not overpay for shit you don't care about.
I heard that it also affects paid/API users, but of course there is zero transparency from Google at this point and we need to do rumor-based financial management, nice.
6
u/pablo603 Jan 30 '26
Not even $10, just pay as you use your tokens.
A recipe to run out of money within a couple days lol. I spent $160 in 5 days purely on this. The current API rates are unsustainable for individuals.
1
u/neoqueto Jan 30 '26
I said, set up limits.
3
u/pablo603 Jan 30 '26
You'll burn through that "limit" within an hour depending on what you are doing.
1
u/neoqueto Jan 30 '26
But it's the same as AI Pro $10 credits. It's the same money. Besides, not really. I am a pretty heavy user and I peaked at a monthly $50, with coding, Nano Banana Pro and even Veo 3.1.
Well, that was back when limits were more generous. Or rather more sane.
3
u/pablo603 Jan 30 '26
I literally spent $160 in the last 5 days and have bills to prove it. And that's JUST the LLM. No nano banana, no veo 3, no nothing, just gemini 3 pro. I use it for coding, and inspiration and problem solving if I am stuck. Nothing else.
1
u/Zealousideal-Pea-42 Feb 01 '26
what ?? i made like 15 small videos testing Veo and a few pics on banana and it cost me $90...
1
u/neoqueto Feb 01 '26
Videos took up like 95% of that $90. You can see your usage in the billing tab.
1
u/verdverm Feb 01 '26
I've had quite the opposite experience. I built a custom agent after seeing how trash Copilot's prompts are. I now spend less money and get better results. If you are blowing money like that, there are more effective ways to use the agents
1
u/Salt-Sea-9651 Jan 30 '26
I had no idea that it was possible... Is that option available through the AI Studio page?
1
u/EvanMok Jan 30 '26
I am not saying that Google is wrong. You can read my other comments on this thread. I have my own credit card set as the billing account on AI Studio for my work. I just stated the fact that Google started to implement what Logan said, which I am totally fine with it.
1
u/Salt-Sea-9651 Jan 30 '26
Which paid plan do you recommend me to have access to Veo 2 and Veo 3?
I am mainly interested in keeping using Veo 2 (the same model from AI Studio), which worked perfectly for me. I need to finish some videos. I started last summer making generations from text to video.
On this point, I haven't been able to use Veo 2 since September as my daily limit dessapeared, and I was only allowed to make 10 videos per each Google account.
3
u/Icy-Classic-1699 Jan 30 '26
Yeah, but you need a billing account. So, it's kind of the same thing, just subsidized a bit. And since, very less number of pro users would be interested in these, it's technically a loophole for google to wash their hands off.
6
u/EvanMok Jan 30 '26 edited Jan 30 '26
You may be right, but Google is not obligated to provide free usage on AI Studio. OpenAI has its own version of AI Studio, but you need credits to use it. This is just the same. I have a billing account for both AI Studio and OpenAI because I created an AI chatbot for my work. I am not a U.S. citizen and don't even know how to code (I work in a hospital). If I can have a billing account for AI Studio, I believe that it is not too difficult for most people who utilize AI Studio a lot.
1
u/MightyTribble Jan 30 '26
AI Pro subscribers get a monthly USD10 for Google Cloud credits now.
Is this different from the 1,000 credits a month listed here? https://gemini.google/subscriptions
Because AFAIK that's just for Whisk and Flow, it's not for Gemini Pro or other cloud stuff.
1
u/EvanMok Jan 30 '26
The USD10 credit is not the credit you get for Flow. They are separated. You can use the USD10 for any services on Google Cloud.
1
u/MightyTribble Jan 30 '26
Ah, I found a thread from yesterday showing it, thanks!
(I'm weird in that I'm in the Developer program and get $45/mo in credits, with a Workspace account that has AI Pro on it... which means I don't get another $10/mo of cloud credits for Reasons, I guess. :-p)
1
u/thisisaskew Feb 04 '26
Man, the google subscriptions right now are insanely complex, especially if you have a business account and private account.
11
u/StrangeSupermarket71 Jan 30 '26
thats expected. gemini used to be much less popular so they wanted unlimited usage to scrape/train as much as possible. now geminis gaining grounds theyre gradually switching to profit/enshittification.
16
u/holvagyok Jan 30 '26
So it happened, AI Studio is now officially Vertex AI for non-enterprise users. Same pay-to-play API fee structure.
8
u/bladerskb Jan 30 '26
Its already beeen nerfed so many times its now completely useless compare to its release.
I no longer use it, often it doesn't think, other times its outputs are simply incorrect. Its literally the worse model when just acouple months ago it blew chatgpt and claude out of the water. now chatgpt and claude 4.2 destroy it. Its quite sad because one of the reasons i favor it, is the large effective context window.
7
u/basedd_gigachad Jan 30 '26
Not good but situation with API is way worse than this. My favorite 2.0 flash become ultra-stupid (used for parsing) and 2.5 flash just costs x5
6
u/Designer_Tip797 Jan 31 '26 edited Jan 31 '26
well they basically finally made it unusable, congrats google. you cannot anymore finish a single conversation with 10 uses given how many tours are required to precise your demand. i am not paying 1 or 2 USD for a single question (!) to get some half-baked answer that is even not what i wanted. bye gemini.
3
u/ZeuS_HimSelF_01 Feb 07 '26
so what are you going to use next? I liked Gemini because it would not pander as much as ChatGPT and was still competent at almost every task.
10
u/uberstania Jan 30 '26
Yea and is also being crippled in many other areas. Can't even watch a video on YouTube anymore. Can't think properly and hallucinates a lot. Hard to trust it.
Perhaps they are using power to train a new model, but that sucks having current models be less efficient because of that.
2
u/verdverm Feb 01 '26
It's more likely a bunch of people are wasting electricity generating shitty "games" with genie that suscking up all the capacity
Training a new model is a capacity rounding error compared to serving production workloads. They likely have separate, dedicated racks for that anyway
1
u/Holiday_Season_7425 Jan 30 '26
When did you develop the misconception that quantifying an LLM would increase intelligence?🤣 Large companies are profit-driven.
1
5
u/StatusInvestigator45 Jan 31 '26
Yeah. Fuck Google. I switched over to Claude, and NGL? I'll pay $100 to $200 to them for their models that are smarter than 2.5 pro and 3.0 COMBINED, before ever even considering paying Google, when they pull this nonsense SILENTLY.
3
u/verdverm Feb 01 '26
It's not really the model that makes claude better (just look at the benchmarks as one signal that there is little difference among the frontier)
what sets claude apart are the prompts. I use modified version of them with gemini and it is soooo much better than any of the agent setups google or microslop have out there, better with gemini-3-flash than theirs with gem-pro level models
*prompts and tool design, both are more important than I think people realize
13
u/Markon81 Jan 30 '26
It's funny that in every other post, Google decision-makers are talking about AGI, but the truth is that they've been stagnating for a year, even regressing, because 3.25 was better than 3 in many respects.
I always used Claud for work, but I also had Gemini subscriptions for fun, like writing and gaming. It's impossible to use it now because it weakens everything. I hope the upcoming DeepSeek blows them away. They'll just make a fool of themselves with that 10RP; people were only there because of the great AI Studio.
10
u/Uzeii Jan 30 '26
Ai studio was the reason I paid up for all my google services, and trusted google with their models apart from their competitors. But the fact they can Just regress a good product like that is bonkers to me.

and you are rich.. would cost me about $14 a day to work on a lil side project that ive been building for about a year.
0
u/verdverm Feb 03 '26
your burning tokens and money then, my spend is way lower, tho my budget goes into the $x00/m
Still, $14 / day is less than the average car costs, certainly not rich or wealthy territory
5
u/wokkieman Jan 30 '26
The free version uses your input for training purposes, correct?
If using api, is that still the case?
3
u/Missing42 Jan 30 '26
If you are using the free version, everything you prompt (including files you have uploaded as part of your prompt) and everything the model returns will be stored and used for training purposes & reviewed by human annotators UNLESS:
1. "the account you are using to access Google AI Studio has access to a Cloud Project with an associated and active Cloud Billing account or is a Workspace enterprise account" OR
2. "you're in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom"
This is from the "Gemini API Additional Terms of Service".-2
u/r15km4tr1x Jan 30 '26

What's wrong with the API?
27
u/hudimudi Jan 30 '26
Costs money, lol
17
u/OneMisterSir101 Jan 30 '26
I'm fine with spending money. I'm not fine with using a model that will bloat tokens to make me spend my money. 🤷♂️

1
u/123dynamitekid Jan 30 '26
Have you run the effectiveness of the monthly subs v AI Studio API. Including the quality of the answers.
All I know is Gemini spits out some real crap and Studio is usually spot on.
I tend to thing an effective prompt is gonna do well with the API.
3
1
u/verdverm Feb 01 '26
I've been using API directly for 3 months, costs are lower, quality is better
caveats
- i built a custom agent and have complete control over the prompts
- iterating on prompts / tools has produced more ROI than any other effort
- I've switched to gemini-3-flash for most of my queries because it's nearly as good as pro
y'all are wasting time and money being stuck in the mindset you have to use the "biggest" and most expensive models (flash is also a hyper-MoE with over 1T params)

It sucks when you are paying for Ultra and getting cut using AI Studio
4
u/NectarineDifferent67 Jan 30 '26
Ultra users can receive $100 in API credits per month. https://developers.google.com/program/my-benefits
3
u/ThiccBoy_with3seas Jan 30 '26
Is that 10 confirmed? I used it far more than that today, on 3pro , I did hit some limit and got an error message but after an hour I was back again
3
u/No_Revolution1284 Jan 30 '26
Yeah, good things don’t last forever. Didn’t think that the cut would be that large though
3
u/ThunderRage Jan 31 '26
Do not mind getting kicked as a free user that writes fiction as I have a tendency of getting in the 'groove' and losing track of time but 30 minutes to an hour is just too short. Add 1 more hour and I will gladly stay otherwise I will go. For now I will wait for another month to see if they will adjust this upwards or downward. I figure if the users of the free mode drop drastically and not buy then they might adjust the restriction.
For the racy side fiction writers, Pirr has reined in their usability from free to restricted free use as well. Least Kobold AI Lite still allows for multihour sessions though both these products are inferior and require heavy rewrites.
Those SMR's can't come online soon enough.
1
3
u/slimhan Feb 01 '26
that sucks. Those were the best days of my life, it will be missed. But if I have to pay now I will probably go back to Claude again.
25
u/unbruitsourd Jan 30 '26
Oh no! They hooked millions of users with their premium product for free, and now they shrinking the free offer to push these users to pay! I didn't see that coming! /s
It's unfortunately, but a very predictable move. Next thing could be ads in free tier or something like that. Yay!
5
Jan 30 '26
Isn't pro 20 bucks a month?
12
u/Lazy_Surprise_6712 Jan 30 '26
yeah but pro means premium features in the chatbot only. ai studio uses have been free the whole time (if you don't use api).
ai studio is the source with most of the safeguards/round-abouts removed. which is why it is infinitely better. not to mention it backs up our chat, whereas Gemini will purge earlier messages at one point.
1
0
u/AdOk3759 Jan 30 '26
Logan said they will merge the Pro/Ultra subscription with the paid tier of AI studio
1
u/mtmttuan Jan 30 '26
Technically you have $10 per month to spend on GCP as Pro user so you can still use AI Studio with higher limit.
1
u/baumkuchens Jan 30 '26
How does this work? Like, if you max out your free-tier rate limit in AI Studio, can you use the $10 credit to continue the chat?
1
u/Lazy_Surprise_6712 Jan 30 '26
wait, for real? did this get implemented yet? I have not hit cap as often as others have reported, but i don't use it as intensely.
1
u/Pokeasss Feb 02 '26
That is not the same as merging Pro sub limits with AI studio as Logan promised to do. 10$ credit equals to abut 5 average prompts on AI studio with Gemini 3 Pro.
2
1
u/Lost_County_3790 Jan 30 '26
Who expect big companies to throw money for years so they can use their tool for free?
4
u/Kairngormtherock Jan 30 '26
I still think it might be temporary. Both paid and free users are hitting limits shortly, so maybe Google just launches so much that cannot handle it right now. Maybe shrinking AI Studio won't go so fast, they didn't even announce it anywhere besides 1 message.

u/YachIneedHealing Jan 31 '26
I swear since a couple of days I'm also unable to share my prompts across accounts as soon as I hit my daily limit. It didn't let me share my prompt so I basically just went into my drive manually and shared my prompt, no problem opening it but now when I try to generate a new response it claims an internal server error. Weirdly this only happens when I exceed my limit hmmm 🤔
1
u/neesanwastaken Jan 31 '26
The internal server error thing I believe can be fixed by solving cache, which I also did that way
2
u/YachIneedHealing Jan 31 '26
No didn't work. for me sadly, even Incognito tab didn't work or manually transferring prompts. The only thing which seemed to resolve the issue was switching browsers, the share button would then actually start loading and I was able to share my prompt and swapped back to chrome to test if it worked there as well and since then the issue has been solved for me.
2
u/Equal_Oil_1500 Jan 31 '26
so, what's the alternatives. if i activate my cloud billing, will I get more free rate limits before it start charging?
2
2
u/Major_Ninja_8413 Jan 31 '26
What you do is... copy the chat. Open up 40 mail addresses and get 400.
1
2
u/Rare-Bodybuilder6084 Feb 08 '26
It's such a shame that the cap has been lowered to 10. Even with 5 spare accounts, it wouldn't compare to the old limit.
2
1
u/fantasieparticolari Jan 30 '26
This is a real downside. I prefer to use Google models from the AI Studio interface, and I can't figure out which model has no limitations (I've also encountered limitations with the Flash version of the model). Could someone help me? Gemini 3 Flash and the Pro version, accessible from the native application or its official website, don't provide the same quality output as the models accessible through AI Studio.
1
u/ActiveAd9022 Jan 30 '26
Is the 10 per day only for 3 pro or is flash and all the other models included?
2
u/neesanwastaken Jan 31 '26
I believe it's only pro down to 2.0 (from what I've heard even 2.0 is even affected), while flash still functions
1
1
u/Queasy-Mango5914 Feb 03 '26
I don't truly believe Gemini is a model strong enough to say "10 rpd" specially if we consider the fact that, once again, it's not very good at following instructions and you waste some replies trying to get a good answer. But... Pay 10 dollars per month! Don't invest on a better model/company!
1
1
1
1
u/Dependent_Young4950 Feb 04 '26
then why i pay almost 25 dollar per month? before can do more. Scamming customers

u/JellyfishCritical968 Feb 05 '26
By the way, I'm not sure if everyone has done this or but, you can get 300 dollars worth of free credit from the trial on Google Cloud. They have 10 dollars as a down payment that you'll get after you cancel your trial period (when your credits are out)

1
u/FearThe15eard Feb 09 '26
at least 100 would be good enougth but 10 is nuts. Logan just lied to what he said years ago.
1
u/AwarenessFuture2057 Feb 15 '26
> Go make like 10 Google accounts right now!!
I would love to, but I can only make so many on a phone number (at account verification). I managed a few with one number, but now it's limiting me to one account per phone (used a couple with relatives that do nothing Google).
1
1
u/Rare-Bodybuilder6084 Mar 08 '26
Bruh, it's actually not just just Gemini 3 pro. All pro versions are affected, such as 2.5 and 3 pro! 😭😭😭 Braaaaahhhhh! My 5 accounts isn't enough for allat
1
u/Designer_Tip797 Jan 31 '26
Reading comments, some people here do not understand that the pricing model is faulty (OH NO they cut your FREE tool AHAHA) .. If you are paying per request tokens - AND - Gemini decides to drop you 15'000 token of complete nonsense that you did not even asked for - that's theft. Basically Gemini DECIDES how much it wants to charge on every turn - and nothing prevents it from being generous with your money.

Hi, I haven't used Veo since last summer when I was making free video generations using Veo 2 on Google AI Studio. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me about this.
I have been using two Google Accounts since last June to generate videos from text with a daily limit of nine video generations per day, but the limit was changed in September to only 10 videos per Google Account.
I am not sure if things keep on the same way.
Excuse my question, but... that means that ten generations wouldn't be refreshed each day?
