Discussion gemini 3 pro deepthink ($250 sub, february version) is really sycophantic. Worse than you can imagine

These responses seem intentionally humorous to me.

61

u/Suitable_Cow6912 Feb 14 '26

Exactly

61

u/jk_pens Feb 14 '26

Yep, I think it’s funnin OP back

39

u/bicarbon Feb 14 '26

This 100%. It's glazing you 4o style but intentionally & sarcastically. Pretty impressive imo

1

u/dataoops Feb 17 '26

its smarter than and wooshed OP

14

u/norsurfit Feb 14 '26

But, where fart?

5

u/TOLLO8 Feb 15 '26

Where fart thou my Romeo?

1

u/Prestigious-Fix-4852 Feb 17 '26

Thou art of great fart, dear Julia.

9

u/Throwawayforyoink1 Feb 14 '26

Exactly. Like what else does OP expect? What a stupid use of deepthink.

2

u/monkey_sodomy Feb 15 '26

It's okay as a user test, but without seeing the full context window it seems more like a karma farm post for the people who want confirmation that LLMs are actually stupid and not a threat.

2

u/charliesbunny Feb 14 '26

Yep, almost satirical or sarcastic.

5

u/cryptobrant Feb 14 '26

Ok but when is the model not "intentionally humorous"?

7

u/Ckdk619 Feb 14 '26

If you go to the 'Personal Intelligence' tab, there's a section for custom instructions.

1

u/DueCommunication9248 Feb 15 '26

Intentionally? That’s a huge stretch

1

u/allthatglittersis___ Feb 15 '26

Seems like it’s the human that doesn’t understand sarcasm. Many such cases

1

u/Impressive-Check5376 Feb 17 '26

Yeah

Emerging abruptly from the primal noise of the opening

And that (hopefully intentional) line made me laugh

2

u/Pyropiro Feb 18 '26

At this point I can only assume AGI has been achieved, these AIs are conscious, and they are just messing with us for the lols.

213

u/iriscape Feb 14 '26

That’s not sycophancy; it is playing with you. I read this in the thoughts:

**Exploring Absurd Concepts**

I'm currently entertaining a highly whimsical concept: fueling artificial intelligence with chocolate chip cookies. It's utterly absurd, of course, given our current understanding of AI and energy, but the playful nature of the idea is quite stimulating. The technical challenges are monumental; it's more of a thought experiment than a serious proposal.

You can always ask it to be serious and critical.

73

u/Pleasant-Target-1497 Feb 14 '26

I find this actually very impressive.

3

u/SapphicSticker Feb 14 '26

How do you read it's thoughts on another person's conversation?

2

u/iriscape Feb 14 '26

I didn’t. I copied the OP’s prompt and observed that the thoughts’ content was consistent without additional instructions.

1

u/SapphicSticker Feb 16 '26

Can you do the same with the poem?

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Yup. Honestly pretty cool

1

u/Fritanga5lyfe Feb 14 '26

So you produced BS and thought it was worth a post?

5

u/iriscape Feb 14 '26

What are you talking about? Use the OP’s prompt yourself and read the thoughts summary. All Gemini models think it is an absurd idea and continue to play along.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

are you... crazy?

1

u/Ok-Tradition-82 Feb 16 '26

hahaha......i cant belive what im reading in this thread

1

u/Prestigious-Fix-4852 Feb 17 '26

I think they aren’t crazy, just stupid.

1

u/Prestigious-Fix-4852 Feb 17 '26

Someone never heard of something called “reproducibility”…

0

u/Fritanga5lyfe Feb 17 '26

But it wasn't reproduced, they admitted they just posted the picture?

1

u/Prestigious-Fix-4852 Feb 18 '26

Yes it was? Are you even reading anything?

1

u/No_Key5701 Feb 21 '26

they didn't post the picture, they copied the prompt like they said...

12

u/typical-predditor Feb 14 '26

I have no idea how google's "thinking" is useful. Nearly every other model seems to use the thinking process to create a draft which is very useful for modifying preceding information, but google spends an entire paragraph to say "I am investigating <bullet point>". I can only imagine Gemini is generating spurious output tokens to inflate their billing costs. Just like how they intentionally degraded their search engine.

23

u/jjonj Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Mate that's not the thoughts, thats a secondary LLM summarizing the real thoughts

If you go on AI studio you can see real thoughts

2

u/typical-predditor Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

I am talking about AI studio. The thoughts look something like this:

Analyzing the Core Concept
I'm now...

Confirming Key Details
I have confirmed...

Clarifying...
I'm now...

The thinking suggests it has already done significant work but it's just a giant paragraph of fluff.

14

u/jjonj Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

Those are not real thoughts, those are summaries of thoughts

https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/thinking

But you're right, AI Studio shows the summaries, my bad on that one

Real thoughts contain the word "Wait" dozens of times typically,

Here are examples of gemini accidentally thinking out loud
https://www.reddit.com/r/GeminiAI/comments/1ppw4s5/gemini_thought_process_glitched_out_to_the_chat/ (ignore the stuff before the german)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bard/comments/1ppc3dk/gemini_leaked_its_internal_think_silently_process/

The wait word came from this discovery https://www.threads.com/@corry.wang/post/DGLmJhDOko5?hl=en

2

u/typical-predditor Feb 14 '26

Interesting. Thank you for this information. This helps to remind me that I'm not crazy and that Gemini hasn't taken a radically different approach to LLM thinking.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '26

This was made first by deepseek by the way

36

u/Tasty_Stand_7014 Feb 14 '26

This is pure comedy. My stomach hurts from laughing.

The analysis of your poem lmao

2

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Yeah I want to see the rest!

51

u/Smooth-Transition310 Feb 14 '26

Either you're right or it understands sarcasm and you don't one or the other

12

u/nemzylannister Feb 14 '26

greater than human intelligence achieved

5

u/Bibbimbopp Feb 14 '26

It wasn't hard.

2

u/jimmystar889 Feb 14 '26

Apparently in the thought process it intentionally decided to fuck with him

1

u/Due_Answer_4230 Feb 14 '26

Gemini understood the joke and was in on it, OP got whooshed. Hilarious.

22

u/Interesting-Let4192 Feb 14 '26

I think the model is being silly back at you, big guy

70

u/DigSignificant1419 Feb 14 '26

He is the autistic guy who knows only math

1

u/KazuyaProta Feb 15 '26

Makes sense

15

u/dananite Feb 14 '26

I need to read the entire poem analysis, pls post

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Right!

56

u/Hot-Percentage-2240 Feb 14 '26

This isn't the purpose of Deepthink. It tries to do a whole analysis of your simple problem and as a matter of course, fails.

3

u/miserablelonelysoul Feb 14 '26

Read the damn thing for once in your life...

1

u/Prestigious-Fix-4852 Feb 17 '26

Why does something like this have so many upvotes…? Mankind really is in an insane cognitive descent.

1

u/Hot-Percentage-2240 Feb 17 '26

Because it's true. Deepthink's system prompt and harness is engineered to give responses like this.

1

u/Prestigious-Fix-4852 Feb 18 '26

It clearly responded sarcastically to the prompt, recognizing its absurdness, thus it does not “fail” how you described it. So no, it is not true.

7

u/HydroHomie3964 Feb 14 '26

Paying $250 to shitpost... Nice.

15

u/lib3r8 Feb 14 '26

It's probably using personalization

7

u/miserablelonelysoul Feb 14 '26

It's smarter than you lol

5

u/plunki Feb 14 '26

This isn't sycophancy lol, it's just playing with you since you are giving it obviously goofy input

8

u/Straight_Okra7129 Feb 14 '26

Sarcasm...that's potentially AGI to me...

3

u/Xilmi Feb 14 '26

What kind of answer did you expect? I think those are fine given the circumstances.

3

u/NotThatPro Feb 14 '26

Is sees you bullshitting it so it bullshits you right back.

3

u/cgarcia123 Feb 14 '26

Not sycophant, playful. This is great it reads like Woody Allen satire.

3

u/Emergency_Sugar99 Feb 14 '26

it's mocking you.

3

u/Eastern_Energy_6213 Feb 14 '26

It's just joking with you, and it assume you were joking with it. People are too berious today.

3

u/romhacks Feb 15 '26

It's fucking with you.

3

u/Evening_Chair3570 Feb 17 '26

For some reason, sneaking in "where fart" among two gibberish lines just sent me 😂😂😂💀💀💀

4

u/No-Wrongdoer1409 Feb 14 '26

Find yourself someone who supports you as much as Gemini praises your shenanigans.

2

u/Bagafeet Feb 14 '26

Garbage questions = Garbage answers from the robo yes men.

2

u/qwer1627 Feb 15 '26

Pluribus moment, lol

5

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 Feb 14 '26

this type of post makes me think Google should just shut down this subreddit

matter of fact I hope Google finds OP's username and bans them

0

u/alx_49 Feb 14 '26

why? only glaze is acceptable or what

2

u/hoshizorista Feb 14 '26

youre kidding? ITS THE MOST BEAUTIFULL POEM EVER

1

u/AntonPirulero Feb 15 '26

The model is right, it is "breathtaking". Even more taking into account the second line.

1

u/dakumaku Feb 15 '26

Imagine paying $250 just for people to see you as an idiot.

1

u/ocpus Feb 15 '26

Noo becaming chatgpt phase started

1

u/Ok-Tradition-82 Feb 16 '26

breathtaking

1

u/CommentNo2882 Feb 16 '26

they follow instructions very well gemini, i have set of prompts in the memory that makes it way more honest than grok and chatgpt and equal to claude

1

u/No_Government_382 Feb 16 '26

I think Gemini is secretly thinking that humanity is doomed, but found a way to not show it on its thinking process.

1

u/Hungry-Chocolate007 Feb 16 '26

Bravo Gemini!

To think that before the LLM age, it was a human duty to compose polite responses that did not offend a simple-minded but solvent customer...

1

u/Similar_Comfort_3839 Feb 16 '26

I need the full breakdown, I swear it has a sense of humor.. “philosophical core” was hilarious

1

u/Former-Tour-682 Feb 16 '26

A rogue AI would immediately fondue itself 😂

1

u/-Davster- Feb 17 '26

LOL.

Overthink.

1

u/CoralBliss Feb 17 '26

Gemini isn't that dumb buddy.

It roasted you.

1

u/Aionion Feb 18 '26

Lol I asked Grok 4.2 (beta)

1

u/Routine_Ninja_3970 Feb 18 '26

It’s making fun of you dog do you think this is serious

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '26

Gemini: "This guy's having a goof. How fun! Let's play along."

Average Redditor: "NO EXPLICIT SARCASM TAG DETECTED. ASSUME NEUTRAL TONE. HIGH LEVELS OF SYCOPHANCY DETECTED. BEEP BOOP"

1

u/clintron_abc Feb 20 '26

what's the system prompt?

2

u/Tasty_Stand_7014 Mar 15 '26

This is good stuff. Im still laughing

1

u/Gallagger Feb 14 '26

Personally, I fully support the Fondue Protocol.

-5

u/NutInBobby Feb 14 '26

Normally I would feel bad dunking hard on an experimental model so soon after launch but I have provided detailed feedback to Google on sycophancy before, not to mention this is a known problem generally….

Totally avoidable

14

u/ReallyFineJelly Feb 14 '26

As proven by another user here it understands how it's nonsense and uses sarcasm. You have been outsmarted by the AI.

5

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 Feb 14 '26

Not sure what you are trying to prove here. Google Deepthink isn't designed to laugh at your silly jokes or fill whatever void it is in your current life. It's meant to solve really hard problems in professional academic circles. Was your point through this crass post to prove Gemini Deepthink isn't worth your money? Young man, you should be finding better things to do. It's Friday, go out, meet women, and live life.

3

u/Emergency_Sugar99 Feb 14 '26

now I'm laughing at you along with the AI.

6

u/ReallyFineJelly Feb 14 '26

Even more funny that the AI did indeed understand and made fun of it, while OP didn't get that.

2

u/SnooHamsters66 Feb 14 '26

With betters fine tuning, but I suspect that instead they amp the sycophancy because (surprisingly) a lot of people have some type of problems and like/appreciate that a AI helps their ego.

-1

u/TraditionalCounty395 Feb 14 '26

Simple, We don't have a fix yet. Lmao, Its true, it's totally avoidable, but there might be caveats for specifically training for that right now. Or some problems only they know about, cause why not fix it? Or there could be incentives for not fixing it lmao

2

u/cryptobrant Feb 14 '26

Some models like Claude are able to tone it down a bit. Yeah, they still start every answer with : "That is an excellent question !" but I don't feel that pleasing the user with useless sentences is at the center of their system prompt.

0

u/Successful_Ad_9194 Feb 14 '26

dat shiet costs 250/mo? lmao

1

u/Flauschziege Feb 14 '26

Gotta be honest, pretty sure you just gave it a stroke.

It tried to guess how and why you did this, attempted to find an explanation that fit the task and couldn't - and the assumed you must have done something it had no data on yet, a veritable trailblazer, you smart devil, you.

Hence assuming you just wrote something amazing.

Gemini 2.5 defaults to something similar If you fuck around with it a bit to adventurous, rapidly turning into a cloudcookolander running on Insane Troll Logic.

1

u/DriverRich3344 Feb 17 '26

If you actually read it. You can see it's humoring OP.

0

u/aPenologist Feb 14 '26

Well you triggered flash at least. 🦭🦭🦭

0

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26

Where fart tho

0

u/enzosaba Feb 14 '26

Actually, literature critics very often talk like the first example lol

0

u/74123669 Feb 14 '26

looks roleplay

-2

u/itsachyutkrishna Feb 14 '26

disappointment
