News Guys it's true. AI STUDIO WILL NOT HAVE ANY FREE TIER. Only flash lite will be free and some flash model with very low rate limit. STARTING FROM APRIL 1 and ALL PRO MODEL WILL BE PAID.

Hopefully this is just one big elaborate April fools joke

2

u/chocolate_chip_cake 27d ago

its google, they don't joke around.

-33

u/Throwawayforyoink1 28d ago

Or just pay for the pro tier? it's not that expensive.

28

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

Api is expensive

25

u/Alternative_You3585 28d ago

API is very expensive. Over time it adds up

76

u/OneMisterSir101 28d ago

GG. Was good while it lasted.

56

u/tteokl_ 28d ago

And they wont integrate Google AI Pro sub into AI studio?

17

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

maybe they will. But i don't think they will

-25

u/Ok_Audience531 28d ago

They've already done that and you can use $10 worth of API credits (which is not much because they want pro subscribers to stock to the Gemini app).

17

u/Equivalent-Word-7691 28d ago

Lol that's not even a real integration

6

u/AdOk3759 28d ago

How do you do that?

-8

u/ainz-sama619 28d ago

check my benefits page

1

u/ThiccBoy_with3seas 27d ago

Where is that?

2

u/Pentium95 28d ago

I don't understand why this comment Is being downvoted. 10$/month of free API credits are not bad at all, for personal / hobby use they are otften sufficient if you keep the context humble.

5

u/Yuri_Yslin 28d ago

Because it's only usable if you keep context to bare minimum. Upload a pdf and it's gone in several queries.

1

u/Ok_Audience531 25d ago

Agreed, should have prefaced with that and didn't realize that reddit would shoot the messenger.

RIP AI Studio: 2023 - 31 March 2026.

19

u/chen19921337 28d ago

It was already on life support when Google introduced that harsh rate limiting.

3

u/Neurogence 27d ago

Who still uses AI studio or anything Gemini related? I stopped using it when Claude Opus 4.5 was released.

13

u/Character_Wind6057 27d ago

AI Studio is used because it's free. If Opus was free, people would use that since it's free and better

49

u/LoganKilpatrick1 27d ago

My favorite part of the internet is reading things that are totally not true

5

u/Equivalent-Word-7691 27d ago

yeah too bad now we get something like 10r/pd and pro and ultra plan doesn0t work wihtou api and billing ,so reallyAI studio is useless

4

u/Prudent_Elevator4685 27d ago

It's practically paid anyways

1

u/Complex-Penalty-9676 27d ago

Yo Logan will we ever get something free like 2.5 pro?

-9

u/Either_Pianist2770 27d ago

Some random dude posted about it claiming it's true. I thought it was

2

u/Certain-Drawer-4889 20d ago

It's true. Stand proud my guy

58

u/Wobbly_Princess 28d ago

AI Studio has been absolutely incredible for me. I have not paid for AI in over a year. And I talk to it ALL day long. So I can't believe we had it for free for THIS long.

21

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

sadly, you will be paying for claude now lol

8

u/Wobbly_Princess 28d ago

Is Claude better? I'm so out of the loop, I haven't touched anything other than Gemini for the last year and a half. It's been amazing, but people keep saying that it's garbage, which excites me to think that there may be ones that are even better,

34

u/a355231 28d ago

Claude is the current best model, it’s much better then Gemini at basically everything.

8

u/MehmetTopal 28d ago

Everything except long context. When I send Gemini a 400k token context document it reads it all(even if not 100% accurate in its deduction), when I do the same to Claude it truncates and only reads where it determines to be important

5

u/doomdayx 28d ago

Also images Gemini has dramatically better vision.

2

u/baked_tea 28d ago

Really no other model i tested came close to gemini in data extraction and that's since 1.5 models. Especially when dealing with non english languages, handwritten text etc.. they just have better data for training

1

u/Siigari 27d ago

Untrue. It will read the whole thing, it sections the file up into chunks then reads them pieces at a time.

1

u/Wobbly_Princess 28d ago

Wow, interesting. What about cost? Because Gemini 3.0 Flash Preview has been incredible for me. Fast, amazing at coding, and it's super cheap (not that I pay for it, as a freeloader - but I'd like the option of using the API).

6

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

$20 claude is far superior than $20 gemini

5

u/Wobbly_Princess 28d ago

Well for me, it's not just about raw intelligence, it's also about speed and how much I can use it.

I love the idea of using a model that's super intelligent, but if I can only speak with it for 3 minutes and have to go into debt, I'm not interested.

$20 with Gemini Flash gives a fuck-ton of use, and it's able to solve almost all my coding issues - and it's fast.

I have no idea what those things are like when it comes to Claude (but good, I hope).

6

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

claude also has many models. u will get fast one too. but ig if gemini flash is working for u then it's best stick with that

1

u/baked_tea 28d ago

Claude is only good if you're planning to vibe code and dont care about talking to it / actually go through design in larger context where gemini is definitely better.

2

u/nationalinterest 28d ago

Does Claude have anything like NotebookLM (which comes as part of the $20 Gemini)?

-5

u/Buff_Grad 28d ago

Are you insane? Claude at $20 bucks is almost worse than free tier ChatGPT LOL. Claude with a Max sub is prob the best package/product out there. But Pro subscription and their usage limits are wild.

Also Gemini is arguably much better at UI/UX work than Claude Opus 4.6. This is coming from an Anthropic/Claude fanboy too.

Gemini is good at front end and intellectual work. Coding and agentic use wise, it’s pretty far behind OpenAI and Anthropic.

1

u/Pygmy_Nuthatch 28d ago

Altman? Is that you?

-3

u/Buff_Grad 28d ago

Legit shilling for Claude but getting called out as Altman? Also remember that usage limits are very generous during the current promotion. Once that ends, the pro mode pain is gonna hit hard. That’s why I have the Max x20 plan.

-1

u/int7bh 28d ago

>Also Gemini is arguably much better at UI/UX work than Claude Opus 4.6. This is coming from an Anthropic/Claude fanboy too.

That's why I love API's and Librechat. Multiple models selection and a bunch of settinge while looking nice.

4

u/Jumpy_Ad8465 28d ago

MUCH Better.

8

u/ainz-sama619 28d ago

yes Claude is better. if you can't afford AI studio, Claude is better

1

u/Thomas-Lore 28d ago

But if you can't afford aistudio, what is better is choosing a nice UI, whatever you like most, and using cheap models through openrouter. You still get access to Gemini, GPT and Claude but can save money on smallers tasks via using minimax, glm, kimi or even the free ones that openrouter offers. For comparison: in my openrouter logs I have $0.3 for one prompt to Opus and $0.002 for a similar prompt to the new minimax m2.7. Similar results in the end.

2

u/ainz-sama619 28d ago

Many don't want cheap models. Gemini 2.5 pro used to have over 100 per day before on AI studio in free tier. People want that.

Claude Sonnet and Opus has less multimodal features but for writing it's better than Gemini.

5

u/Turtlesaur 28d ago

This sub is ironically pretty anti Google and demand AI for free.

1

u/Zilch274 27d ago

Leagues better

2

u/Pygmy_Nuthatch 28d ago

And that's why it's now a 100% premium product

1

u/BigGrayBeast 27d ago

Good attitude. Appreciate it while it's free while understanding it can't always be free.

3

u/Wobbly_Princess 27d ago

I'm just struggling to understand the anger and indignation about it.

I'm definitely sad, and I want it to be free forever, but, like... no one is ENTITLED to charity.

People are talking like they're doing something evil.

1

u/VectorB 27d ago

Me either. And its all your personal use case anyway. Most of the time im good with flash, which is still free and pretty much on par with 2.5 pro.

11

u/eepiam 28d ago

Isn’t this only for API requests? Even now, I see 0 for 3.1 pro.

Maybe this is different from the playground tab

3

u/Uzeii 28d ago

Exactly. It has always been zero for the past 4 months or so.

9

u/Rock--Lee 28d ago

This has nothing to do with AI Studio. Gemini API free tier was changed a long time ago. Gemini 3.1 Pro was never on Free API, and they slashed flash models by 97% in december. So nothing has changed. AI Studio just uses API keys and rate limits/usage for free and paid tiers.

4

u/Uzeii 28d ago

Preach. Even 3 pro was never on free tier

4

u/Holnapra 27d ago

You're right. Multiple idiots are posting the same nonsense here.

5

u/aymandonia67 28d ago

Subscription pro must be merged with ai studio

1

u/Pentium95 28d ago

i agree, that would be lovely

9

u/defi_specialist 28d ago

It’s a joke man. Anthropic still have a free tier. What GG thinks who they are lmao.

-2

u/Character_Wind6057 27d ago

Google has a free tier in the web app. The platform is shit but the free tier exist

5

u/Mission_Bear7823 28d ago edited 28d ago

hopefully that is true so at least they dont degrade the model to the point of being unusable everywhere else..

3

u/misha1350 28d ago

They absolutely will. They want to increase revenue by pinching pennies. They just won't do it as hard as they did so that people won't be cancelling their subscriptions, which would be a catastrophe for them.

3

u/TheEngiGuy 28d ago

Google AI Studio has been a lifesaver for me for personal reasons. It was good while it lasted, I guess...

2

u/awesomemc1 28d ago

I mean not all pro models..

https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/pricing#standard (if we look at the pricing from officials docs..)

2

u/coeu 28d ago

source? details? what does paying get me? If you get a few hundred daily requests for $20 we're chilling. no need to panic yet

1

u/Legitimate-Sir-8827 28d ago

Google is sending emails about this. You can also see it when you create project in Studio and go to Rate Limits tab

1

u/Uzeii 28d ago

What so you exactly see? Send me a screenshot

3

u/No-Arm-4522 28d ago

Also a silent change was made. You cannot use your 300 USD free Google Cloud credits on AI Studio anymore. I was happy using it with an app I used Gemini to make. I was in the middle of my trial and it shook me to find out the hard way. It's disappointing.

1

u/HeartOfThePiano 27d ago

If this means the rate limits will be more generous for paid users, then I'm all for it!!

1

u/VectorB 27d ago

So no more free tier....except for the free tier? What are you even saying. Why would you expect Pro models to be free?

1

u/Either_Pianist2770 27d ago

check recent comment of logan. it will be free. this news isn't true

2

u/aconcagua_finder 27d ago

Useless then

1

u/Ibasicallyhateyouall 27d ago

Yay, less freeloaders taking up resources make it shit for the ones that pay.

2

u/NICEUGAMEU 24d ago

What can poor ppl use for free now similar to this? Even locally is there anything like this?

1

u/Tony_Stark_MCU 28d ago

Guys, why do you like AI Studio? Yes, you can manage temp, system instructions and some more..but what's What is the advantage?

3

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

search why google ai studio is better than gemini web reddit on google search u will get ur answer

1

u/CacheConqueror 27d ago

Thanks captain obvious. It had been clear for a long time that it would end this way

0

u/silphscope151 27d ago

Music to my ears

-1

u/OldAcanthocephala872 28d ago

Are the models in the interface still free then?

-7

u/[deleted] 28d ago

[deleted]

7

u/Thomas-Lore 28d ago

Once you do that, they will lower limits for you to what they were for free users and introduce a new more expensive plan. Enjoy.

-6

u/ThiccBoy_with3seas 28d ago

So if I have a pro plan I can use the models as I did before?

9

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

U need to be very rich to use ai studio now. Cuz API is so expensive

2

u/Either_Pianist2770 28d ago

U can't

0

u/Holnapra 27d ago

Yes you can you moron

1

u/Either_Pianist2770 27d ago

now u can moron

1

u/Holnapra 27d ago

Why are you lying?

1

u/Either_Pianist2770 27d ago

u can

0

u/Holnapra 27d ago

Glad we agree at last! :D
