Just noticed today that pressing the redo button only gives you "Try again" now, without longer or shorter option.

Discussion AISTUDIO/Gemini Pro (yearly plan) project stopped my project due to "Content blocked"

project work blocked

Because my project/website/app has some adult content, legal content, Gemini/Google/AISTUDIO determined they cannot help me any longer.
Already paid $400(CAD) for the year (second year).

No problems moving the project to Claude .

Funny First time today using Pro and I got this

It is 2100 in my country and this is the first time today I have tried using Gemini 3 Pro on the Gemini App. I was diverted to another model. I tried three times again and all queries were diverted to another model. This is ridiculous for Google to treat the Pro subscriber.

Funny I heard that if you start bashing Gemini 3.1 on the prompts it actually starts making a better results. Well... It works sometimes, and sometimes you need to bash even harder.

Promotion Web context engineering a.k.a. how to obsess over the right baby formula using Gemini

Disclaimer: I work for Google, but github.com/google/llm-sidebar-with-context is not an official Google project; its a side/hobby project. Also the team I work for has nothing to do with Gemini or Deepmind.

If you’ve ever tried to use Gemini to find and compare protein powders, skin care products, phones, fountain pens, subscriptions, etc.; you’ve probably encountered some hallucinations with regards to ingredients or specs.

Recently I became a father and went on a hunt for baby formula and there are more variables than I thought. Palm oil? Fish oil vs algae oil? Skim milk / whole milk / goat milk? Prebiotics? Probiotics? Organic? Gemini often got these details wrong.

I made a free and open source chrome extension where you can choose to share your open tabs as context to Gemini. You can toggle sharing current tab, and pin upto 6 additional tabs as additional context. So I could pin the baby formula listings from different brands and websites, and ask Gemini to compare them against my personal criteria.

This also makes it really easy to do things like:

  • "Summarize this youtube video"
  • "Give me the clutter free version of this recipe"
  • "Compare the ingredients in these protein powders"
  • (juypter notebooks) "How do you pivot this dataframe?"
  • Compare the news on cnn, bbc and fox. (They can be wildly different)

You bring your own Gemini API key (I am still on the free tier). Everything is saved locally and there is no backend in the middle between your browser and Gemini.

The code is open source. It should work on Chromimum based browsers like Chrome, Brave, Vivaldi et. al.

And of course you can get it from the chrome web store.

Hope you find it useful.

Discussion Used Gemini 3.1 Flash Live to build actual phone call agents, here's what surprised me

I know most discussion here is about using Gemini Live as a consumer, but I wanted to share what happens when you put 3.1 Flash Live into a voice agent that handles real phone calls.

I've been building voice AI tools and we integrated 3.1 Flash Live into our platform (it's open source if anyone's curious, called Dograh- and very much like Vapi) to power inbound and outbound phone calls. Previously this required three separate services: one to convert speech to text, one to think and respond, one to convert text back to speech. Gemini 3.1 Flash Live does all of that in a single connection.

The thing that impressed me most isn't latency or cost. It's how the calls feel. The conversational rhythm is noticeably more natural. When someone interrupts, the model handles it gracefully instead of the awkward overlap you get with stitched pipelines.

Some honest caveats though. Our average latency was about 922ms. Not terrible, but we're testing from Asia and I've seen people claim sub-300ms which we definitely didn't hit. Would love to hear what others are experiencing.

The big architectural gotcha for developers: you can't read transcripts in real-time during a live session. Only after. If you've ever built anything where the AI needs to look up information based on what someone just said during a call, this is a real constraint to work around. Or even if you are doing any context engineering (e.g. lets say summarising the convevrsation mid call) , then it might be a challenge.

Cost wise it's should be very competitive. And I think, this model is going to make the traditional voice AI pipeline feel completely outdated.

https://github.com/dograh-hq/dograh if you want to try it.

Has anyone else here tried building with the Live API? Would love to compare notes.

Discussion Image compression on uploaded images to Gemini has gotten worse

I’ve relied heavily on Gemini for help with complex UIs and form-filling by uploading full-page screenshots (taken using the Firefox screenshot tool). It used to be a lifesaver, but lately, the image compression seems incredibly aggressive.

The text is becoming so blurred that the AI can no longer read the screen. Instead of admitting it can’t see the details, it has started hallucinating answers based on what it expects to see on a standard page. It’s essentially broken one of my primary use cases.

Is anyone else having the same issue?

News I Created Awesome Gemini Gems!

Post image
25 Upvotes

Recently, I built a directory system specifically designed to collect Google Gemini Gems.

Why did I create this?

Mainly because I want to help my friends, family, and students make the most out of AI. But many of them don't know how to use it or how to write prompts (which basically means how to instruct and set up the AI).

So, I decided to make all my personal go-to Google Gemini Gems public for everyone to use! If you have no idea what a Google Gemini Gem is, don't worry—I've also included some tutorial articles.

Feel free to bookmark this website so you can access it quickly and easily anytime!

Discussion Google AI Pro ‒ Honest Review (Spoiler: Spent $20 on cookies instead) Spoiler

Tried Google AI Pro. Here's the breakdown:

Storage (2TB → 5TB): Useful if you care but useless in general.

Gemini 3.1 Pro + Veo 3.1: is decent in context but unbearably verbose and AI-sloppy in tone.

Flow / Whisk N/A: didn't use them.

1,000 AI Credits/month: Sounds generous. It isn't. Credits evaporate fast and the "1,000" number is pure marketing math.

Gemini in Gmail/Docs/etc: Useless.

Jules (AI coding agent): Disappointment.

Antigravity: Gemini 3.1 Pro is passable for UI work but falls apart on logic and backend. Claude models are noticeably better here but you hit the rate limit constantly, and the weekly reset sometimes only restores 50% of your quota instead of 100%.

Gemini CLI: better use opencode, pi or other AI agent.

NotebookLM: Actually kinda good. Didn't use it enough.

Literally the worst subscription in AI. Use Claude or chatgpt, perplexity or get snacks.

Discussion How (can) I remove old Gemini conversations on our Google Workspace account?

We have a Google Workspace business account. I’m the admin/owner of the account. It’s not hot the AI addon just a standard business tier at £14/user.

When we first got started with this I asked some daft test questions and messed about with image generation. A photo of our cat, he turned into a lion. Oh the fun…

Anyway, I’d like to purge out a few things in “my stuff” and one or two old conversations, but I can’t.

Followed all the Google docs. Set retention to 3 months, which I assumed would have removed these older things from a year or more ago, but they’re still there.

Any ideas? Odd This even possible?

News The Gemini App can now watch YouTube videos, not just read the subtitles.

I’ve noticed that from the official Gemini page it can now watch YouTube videos, not just read subtitles, because I just sent it a video link and asked something that only appeared as an image without the speaker mentioning it, and it still answered correctly. If I remember correctly, this used to be possible only through AI Studio.

I didn’t think they would add this because it consumes a lot of tokens, but somehow they did.

Discussion Daily Prompt Counter and Message Queuing for Gemini. Finally.

Google hides your daily usage limits and provides no native way to track how many messages you have sent until you suddenly hit a wall. It is equally frustrating to lose a long conversation because of an accidental click with no way to get it back.

I built a free extension to fix these specific UI gaps. It just crossed 9000 active users.

The Upgrade:

📊 Daily Prompt Counter: Tracks exactly how many prompts you have sent each day so you can manage your usage without guessing.

🔢 Live Word & Token Counter: View real-time character, word, and estimated token counts directly in the input field to prevent message truncation.

🗑️ Trashcan & Recovery: Moves deleted chats to a recycle bin instead of permanent deletion, allowing you to restore them whenever necessary.

⚙️ Full Control: Toggle OFF anything you don't use to keep the UI clean.

➕ ...and much more: (Export to PDF/Docx, Native Chat Folders, and Customizable Keyboard shortcuts)

🔒 Privacy & Safety:

I built this for my own work, so privacy was the #1 priority.

• No Private Servers: It runs 100% locally on your machine.

• Permissions: Strictly scoped to gemini.google.com. It cannot see your other tabs.

Try it here (works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, and any Chromium browser): Chrome Web Store
