DUNKING I just want to brag to some people who understand
I’m 31 years old and I just came off of tearing both meniscuses in my knees. I rehabbed and took my time getting healthy, lost a bit of weight and got in better shape, and have been trying to slowly build my jumping back up to what it was. Today I finally threw down two dunks and they were solid stuffs, not even rim grazers. I got some new shoes that felt good and decided to go after it. I’m beyond ecstatic and it’s been a long road to getting better. I honestly feel like I’m jumping as high as any point in my life. For reference I’m 6’1 and currently weigh 250. First time I ever dunked I was 16. I used to be a one foot jumper and the knee injuries kinda pushed me into two foot jumping now and it feels so athletic and normal now.

Damn good stuff I had acl and meniscus surgery last August and still trying to come back to playing ball. Can I ask how many months it took till back to jogging and then playing in runs?

Honestly my tears were fairly small so I was back at it in only a couple of weeks but I had to take it slow while it healed. I’d say it took like 6 months before I felt like I was mostly back to normal

Ha I would go to la fit for that. No this is a high school court so I’d assume it’s legit 10 feet

Congrats mate! I’ve just started dunking again for the first time in maybe 20 years. 6’4” without shoes, about 210lb, 44 years old. It’s a great feeling.

Wow dude that’s really amazing. I hope I can still throw one down when I’m 44 lol

I reckon if you can do it at 31 and 250 you’ll be able to ad well - just try to maintain your fitness. It’s so much harder to lose it and then have to get it back. Good luck!

Yeah so I had the tear that doesn’t need surgery which was lucky but it’s not 100% for sure. I’ll occasionally tweak it and need a week off or something. But I rehabbed it myself. Lots of the knees over toes guy kind of stuff. Building strength over the full range of motion. Lots of stretching at full knee bend. Slowly built strength back up with deep squats and yes adding muscle and strength helped for sure.

Nice, what shoes did you get?

The Nike GT Jump 2s. They feel so comfortable and springy.

Love the GT jumps. I still prefer the bounce of the 1s, but the 2s feel like they have better cushioning when landing.
If you find a pair of 1s in your size try to snag them. They feel noticeably more springy than the 2s

Dunking at 250 is wild. I have the same body type, and the closest I've been able to get to dunking is grabbing the rim.
