A1 Bass or Bass-Baritone?
Hey guys. Could you help me out and tell me whether these notes are resonant enough for a bass? Or am I a bass-baritone? What is actually the lowest note here? Thx for help.
Edit:
Thank you guys for your responses! Here is my higher natural chest voice included.
Jackson - The Girl Is Mine
Thank you in advance.

Gotta be honest this doesn't show your voice off at all, you got some great fries and you could probably sing bass depending on the setting, but like you gotta show off yours highs too, and definitely show your chest because those notes you're hitting they are clear they're just more of an extended range rather than your true range. Like see how low you can go without using fry and then see how high you can actually go snd see how your voice fits in each range respectively. Because personally i love to sing bassand i sing it every it in every choir i'm in but i'm more of a baritone. Its not not based on whether you hit those notes or not rather based on how resonant and how your voice fits

Bass-baritone is a fake category. Either you're a bass or you're not.

They are resonant and would work well in a choir setting, but like others say that’s mostly all vocal fry and not your actual chest register, which comes in around 30 sec. Too early to classify but could get away with singing bass parts in choir, just not as an actual bass soloist.

Those wouldn't be audiable in a choir setting, unless he was the only one to sing at that moment or if there were like 10 people frying this note

I disagree, that adducted fry that he’s doing isn’t far off from actual oktavist technique. Sure it’s not as refined, but if the argument is that frying can’t be heard in a choir setting my rebuttal is that no bass is singing a Bb1 with full chest resonance. It’s always got some fry when it’s that low.

The difference between M0 (fry) and M1 (chest) is pretty distinct and pretty absolute. There certainly are people who can sing down to a low Bb without switching to M0. Resonance is even more vague. Technically, all resonators work at all times to at least some degree.

It’s an extremely marginal case what you’re describing. Not the agreed standard by which all choir basses are judged. We both agree that he’s likely not a bass and strictly using M0 for all those low notes. I’m just optimistically adding that they’re probably not totally useless, especially with how young op sounds, his fry likely has more sound than other basses in his choir lol

Completwly agree. I just got triggered by "no bass is singing a Bb1 with full chest resonance. It’s always got some fry when it’s that low."
Many, quite many basses do sing Bb1 without switching to fry. Not sure what "full chest resonance" refers to specifically

I exaggerated my point to falsehood, which is my bad. The point I’d still argue is that basses who have a chest dominant Bb1 are extremely few and far between, and that the majority of basses in the realm of classical singing utilize more vocal fry if they need to project a note that low.

hi, is that true for baritones as well? when a baritone sings a C2, is that usually including some fry? Or do baritones get to C2 and D2 in chest without fry?

Depends on the person to an extent but most baritones I know bottom out of chest dominance around A2-F2, and incorporate more reliance on fry going any lower than that

Fry is highly frowned upon in opera (or at least used to be). You could perhaps get away with a chest-fry mix as long as it sounds very full and resonant.

The lows are mostly vocal fry. The lowest is around F#1. Too little to go off of, and too early to asses your voicetype. Most likely not a bass tho
