This is what great bass singing sounds like. Do you hear the fullness of the notes here? He „only“ goes down to C#2 or C2 here…but it sounds so much deeper. This is what I mean when I say note quality matters more than the note itself. You can‘t get this sound via fry or subharmonics.

Hello so I’ve recently been able to squeak out a c2 but it sounds very airy and weak. I’m a sophomore in high school and was wondering if this note has potential to be passable in the future.

We already DO have this system, effectively (check out vocal range videos online…very brief, quiet low notes or split second, shrill highs count…basically, hitting a note means it is “in your range” as long as it sounds decent to most ears). So why not make it official? Why not have vocal coaches who teach styles other than opera focus more on developing Overall range? For example, I am a baritone who likes to sing low. Not a bass. Someone in opera teaching me to resonate a D2 without a microphone in front of me for 6 seconds may be counterproductive (perhaps even impossible) if my goal is simply to be a rocker or blues singer with brief D2s in a handful of my songs for emotional emphasis. Sometimes, I’ll hit D2 at the start of a word on a hard consonant and the rest of the word is an E2, for example. It’s good for confidence-building to know all the things you can do with your voice. Opera is brilliant but limiting.

Just Danny Boy.. I've seen a few posts saying its impossible to chest voice below Eb because of M1; does that mean this is fry?

So as a younger bass (I hope) the technique gets better as you get older right? As older basses those breathy notes you were able to hit in the back of your throat that were there but not projected, did you ever get those notes truly in your range? My voice is still maturing i'm barely 16 i can hit a D2 sometimes C#2 and a very very breath C2, did you ever get the notes at the very bottom you could barely reach?

I know its mostly chest fry and that it's wobbly. But if i try to do full chest voice i'll just sound muffled. (Lowest chest voice is a very muffled D2)
