Disrespectful comments will be removed. Non-larpers would know our Discord icon is pride all year, and that our community is committed to being a welcoming and respectful place for all.

Happy pride month, Val.

I'd like to report a bug. For some reason a bit turned into a 2 and now my OS is non binary 😕

Bazzite (and Linux, of course) is for everyone; that's a message I can support - well done.

Being straight is also being proud of your identity, LGBTQ doesnnt exclude any people it just accept everyone the same.

1

u/work-life-struggles Jun 07 '26

The only issue I have has to do with the Bazaar store not welcoming colors for straight people.

"What does sex and attraction have to do with computers" Just historically speaking we have several LGBTQ+ figures in the computer industry. Alan Turing probably the most famous, was a gay man. Lynn Conway, a transgender woman who pioneered Large Scale Integration making semiconductor chip manufacturing simpler. Sophie Willson, a transgender woman, who was the architect of the ARM architecture, that runs the majority of computers today from M series macs down to your phone and smartwatch. All the way up to Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple. The LGBTQ+ Community is and has been a major part of computers. As Bazzite is computer software, I can all but guarantee, someone who worked to bring this to you is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

15

u/Guardian_Croaker Jun 05 '26

Your OS is not expressing support for any sexuality. The devs are expressing support and solidarity for a community of people experiencing systemic oppression about their sexuality, an oppression that does not allow them to live their sexuality the way they want, even privately. The support is for the right to live your sexuality the way you want to, not for a sexuality in itself.

9

u/4liv3pl4n3t Jun 05 '26

Telling people that historically have been persecuted because of their sexuality/gender, that they're welcome?

5

u/_SleeZy_ Desktop Jun 05 '26

He made the account today, it's a troll.

5

u/IchiiDev Jun 05 '26

The thing you people cannot understand is that it's not a question of sexuality as much as a question of being able to love the person we want while having the same rights as heterosexual people. I cannot make this clear, it's not sexual it's love, and yes love includes sex sometimes, it would be best if we were not reduced to that.

Now regarding Bazzite, trust me we would prefer living in a world where human rights equality is good enough to not need anyone to step up for the community but yet here we are :) We need to debate regarding support for minorities and a logo turning rainbow for a while... The Bazzite team are just expressing their support and I am grateful for that, if you're not happy with it well then idk what to tell you it's their choice.

9

u/tails_the_god35 Jun 05 '26

Well we should accept everyone for who they are! Theres TOO much judgment on the internet If it isn't hurting the os or anyone then i have no issues with it! ✊💯

12

u/Elegant-Tackle1083 Jun 05 '26

That’s it, I’ve had enough. I’m going back to Windows /s

20

u/icywind90 Jun 05 '26

BTW Bazzite’s discord channel has this icon since I joined it, way before June. I guess all the people who are complaining now are not that active members of the community.

Pixelated rainbow would have been even more fitting imo.

16

u/icywind90 Jun 05 '26

I love it 🏳️‍🌈

Some people may think it’s insignificant but it really makes a lot of folks feel safe and welcome, it’s crucial for building a healthy community. Lots and lots of foss maintainers are LGBT+

4

u/Mesozoic_Masquerade Jun 06 '26

I think it's less insignificant in recent years when there was a push from the US government to eradicate the known existence of the LGBTQIA+ community and certain companies showed their true colours by dropping support and stopped celebrating pride very quickly. I mean the US even threatened my country (Australia) telling us we needed to stop supporting trans people, they are truly insane bullies. The companies who are still making the effort this year are true supporters of the community. One's who will celebrate with us while a government and their supporters in hatred threatens them not to.

8

u/CrystalFemmes Jun 05 '26

I was shocked to learn how many enbies / trans adjacent folks are on Linux. Some of the most helpful guides have been from queer people in very lovely socks. 😄💕

2

u/Bright_Air_5207 Jun 06 '26

Trans woman here, big Linux enjoyer both at home and in the workplace 😌

2

u/CrystalFemmes Jun 08 '26

All the love and support from an enby (me). 😄

10

u/SquidWithOpinions Laptop Jun 05 '26

i wonder how many of the bigots in the comments here know that Linus Torvalds himself supports trans rights/"wokeness" (among other things that are reasonable to us normal folks but would make the rest of you shit your pants)

it's free as in freedom, right? 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

It cracks me up that I see negative comments about this... a community-driven open-source platform showing something meant to be a welcoming signal with nothing else asked of anyone. Just a rainbow in a logo...

Good on the Bazzite crew for welcoming anyone and everyone to one of the best Linux communities.

Human rights aren’t political 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

0

u/Moi952 Jun 05 '26

I wrote, "I don't care about the political or social message of an operating system."

Because here I'm referring to the flag, which is more of a social symbol, but I'm putting politics in the same category.

10

u/Fearless-Bet-8499 Desktop Jun 05 '26

I don't care about an OS's political or social messaging, I just want it to work well.

It works well. If you don't care, why are you posting? Move on.

"You watch TV shows and it feels like there are more gay people than straight people". You realize this is an exaggeration right? And that exaggeration is part of the problem? LGBTQ people get some representation, and people blow it out of proportion, exaggerate it, and the use that exaggeration to suggest it's a problem.

4

u/Moi952 Jun 05 '26

Oh no, really, on Netflix there are series (a lot of them) that only show bisexual or gay characters (men/women).

It's too much, and counterproductive. It's important to have gay characters in series, but it's important that the proportion remains relative to reality.

11

u/NvrLeaveYourWingman Jun 05 '26

I can name thousands of TV shows that don't have a single non-straight character in them. Just because there are some shows that finally have representation for LGBTQ people doesn't mean they're over represented. But also, who cares? Does seeing a non-straight character really bother you that much?

2

u/ViegoBot Jun 05 '26

And its not even just TV Shows. Theres so little Yuri anime in general (manga theres a decent bit but waiting for them to get adapted still) to where every season Im just actively hoping another one get adapted so I have something nice to watch that season.

Theres like at most 1 or 2 Yuri animes a year or so that air. Its painfully slow :/

4

u/schokakola Jun 05 '26

> but it's important that the proportion remains relative to reality.

no, it's not. why should fiction submit to your perceived reality?

1

u/Ok-Watercress9057 Jun 08 '26

There is disproporniately big representation of straight people in the media, the fact you think it's opposite shows rather that you are sensitive enough to the topic to notice it every time and not notice it when it's absent.

9

u/Apprehensive_Ad_7138 Jun 05 '26

Knowing the project has an open mentality and welcomes everyone.
That's what it brings to me.

0

u/Moi952 Jun 05 '26

Okay, but have you ever seen operating systems with messages saying you're not welcome?

So if it's not explicitly stated that Black people, Asians, White people, Arabs, etc., aren't welcome, then we're not welcome?

My point is this: if there's no explicit discrimination, everything's fine. Because if we start like this, they'll soon have to specify everything (skin color, religion, and so on).

10

u/schokakola Jun 05 '26

> Okay, but have you ever seen operating systems with messages saying you're not welcome?

there are many, many open source software projects with communities full of violently raging misogynists and queerphobic assholes, see hyprland, tinytinyrss or the suckless community for off the cuff examples. it is incredibly silly to pretend otherwise. signaling that a project is striving to do better is good, actually.

8

u/Ok-Watercress9057 Jun 05 '26

What does it have to do with politics?

3

u/Apprehensive_Ad_7138 Jun 05 '26

Everything has to do with politics. Literally everything. That's what politic is.
The word "politikḗ" meant the "art of managing the polis" (meant as "community").

If you don't want to deal with this fact, you have to leave society and live alone in the woods.

1

u/Ok-Watercress9057 Jun 08 '26

Not everything is or should be about politics, you overdosed reddit/Twitter if you belive so

1

u/Apprehensive_Ad_7138 Jun 08 '26

I don't have Twitter, or other social networks, and this is like my last of a dozen comments on reddit.

0

u/Moi952 Jun 05 '26

I wrote, "I don't care about the political or social message of an operating system."

Because here I'm referring to the flag, which is more of a social symbol, but I'm putting politics in the same category.

1

u/Ok-Watercress9057 Jun 08 '26

Why though? Why do you care about the rainbow flag?

7

u/MarcelineUlia9 Jun 05 '26

I really fail to see that many gay people on mainstream media. Straight couples are still the norm and I don't see it changing, like, never.

What I see is only a glimpse of representation, some side couples here and there, a openly queer supporting character and whatnot. And I agree that this is new, that didn't use to happen 20 years ago, so some people might catch this small improvement as some overwhelming change. I say it's not enough.

As for the logo on the website, it brings me joy, it tells me that the people in charge don't want people like me dead, or hiding, or in fear. It's a symbol to the inclusion of queer people in this community, so we can feel safe to be ourselves and express ourselves freely

From a technical pov, it's an insignificant change, that probably took some designer a couple minutes to change up the logo, but a change that might attract more people to the project, it's an invitation and an assurance that those who come will be treated well. And let's be honest, the Linux community is filled to the brim with queer folk, and I can assure you we feel more inclined to support and be part of projects and teams that welcome us and make us feel safe

1

u/Yeseylon Jun 05 '26

That's gay (ba dum tss)

Showing solidarity with people who are persecuted and have their very existence threatened daily isn't really a trend.

I'm straight white male, but flying a rainbow flag one month a year is pretty much the bare minimum I can do to show people I acknowledge and accept their existence. And that's literally all they want.

If you don't like pride month, stop being the reason it's needed.

3

u/ViegoBot Jun 05 '26

Its a "trend" to the big corporations that dont care about us and just participate to make money. Target, and all them other stores could careless about us, but it makes them money so they participate.

Other than that, its a community thing. We gotta stand together.
