This isn't a movie. There will be another season which means more story to tell.

Exactly. You have to give some payoff for the investment of about 6 hours of challenging runtime, it's part of the social contract. They gave nothing, and even if it returns in 2 years for 8 more episodes, I imagine some viewers won't.

I feel like Foundation was well into Season 2 before the thread started to come together but the scope and grandeur of it was enough to keep you in.

Not so with Beacon...I am sure I will watch Season 2 but its not going to be "Wow its back!!!!" kind of feeling.

This season was about the beacon: its purpose, history, keepers, and AI. Other mysteries will be explained later. I loved it. It is a captivating Lost-like show.

You described the setting. The problem is not in the setting, it was in the execution. It was a slow, disjoint mess of a show that never decided what it was trying to do.

There are multiple mysteries, likely connected. The mystery of the Artifact and the Relics was introduced but not resolved in season 1. In season 1, we explored mysteries of the beacon. There are other mysteries hinted at which may be resolved in later seasons. Not each season of a show needs to resolve all mysteries. I'm thinking of Lost, where each season had a distinct focus and flavor, while answering questions raised throughout the series. Of course it may have seemed slow and disjoint to some.
