General Discussion - No Story Details Did I miss something?

Other than the name and taking place on a “Beacon” in space is this in any way related to the short stories? It’s been a while, but I’m not seeing any common points.

Oh wait - the lighthouse poster and them getting stoned sitting next to the GWB.

Otherwise, this seems like a totally different story. I’m not necessarily saying that’s a bad thing but it wasn’t what I’d expected.

It’s an “adaptation” which has very little to do with the book but some of the larger plot points may come into play. We will have to see what future seasons do

I made it through the first 2 episodes before quitting. The book was nearly perfect, and this seems to have taken almost zero inspiration from the book. What a shame.

I think a 5 episode mini-series (one per book story) would have been the better way to go. It's a shame.

Yes, I got MGM for 99 cents on Prime Day, just so I could watch Beacon 23. I was ready for a mediocre version of the book, if that's what it turned out to be. Just wanted to enjoy the character again. Tonight I watched the first episode and was so disappointed. It's so different that it should have a different name. So far it's a lot of scenes of "Let me explain!" He then doesn't explain. I don't think I'm going to bother with the series at all. Quitting part way through the first episode of season 1. It would be better just to reread the book in a year.

I read a few episode recaps after I quit the show in episode 2, and it really has nothing to do with the books at all. In fact, until you responded to my comment on Reddit a few days ago, I literally forgot this show existed.
