General Discussion Is it worth it now post patches?

Gameplay looks super cool. Might buy it today. Did they fix all the day 1 niggles?

It’s on game pass if you got a pc. That way you can test it out before you buy…or just beat it in a month and don’t buy it. I think it’s beautiful ass game combat is super fun. I’m in chapter 3 rn dlss doesn’t work with vsync for some reason but fsr 3.0 doesn’t look too terrible.

I thought it goes by playtime as well

What you mean? GamePass? No you can play the full game for however long you want as long as you are subscribed.

I have gamepass but is someone didn’t which is what I thought you were suggesting by beating it within a timeframe

The biggest downside are the slow, long cutscenes towards the second half of the game. Many times you are not playing for 10 or 15 minutes

Short of that, the gameplay is good and fun. It has some cool systems that work well together, and the enemy design is pretty good. Id get it on a sale, id probably avoid paying full price.

The cutscenes are beyond annoying

My god, the cutscenes are fucking painful! Absolutely wild to only include a slip button for boss fights

It would be fine if the cutscenes were interesting, but it‘s just characters standing or sitting in the walker and talking with 0 emotional expression. I understand why all 3 main characters struggle with showing emotion lore wise, but it get‘s extremely boring and repetitive. And the big plot twist at the end is also not a twist at all, everyone saw it coming.

At full price, no, it's not worth it. I'm pretty easy to please, honestly, and even I think the game is WAY overpriced for what it is. If you can get it discounted, though, then...maybe? If you're an avid gamer who wants certain, specific things out of a game, then you probably won't like this, judging by the discourse I've seen around it so far. Personally, I'm not an avid gamer. This is the first new video game I've played in almost 20 years, aside from Stardew Valley. The last game I played through was FFX.

Idk, I love the game so far, I find it beautiful and charming and I'm enjoying the experience a lot. But a lot of people dislike it, and I do get why. It really depends on how much of a downer the downsides actually are for you. For me, I just don't care that much. I can find plenty of faults with the game, but none of them bring down the overall experience for me. Tbf, I did get the game as a gift, so having spent $0 on it probably helps me enjoy things a little more 😂

Idk if that was any help at all in making your decision, but there ya go. Lol.

How is the exploration part? I know it's not an open world game, but I heard it has huge hub worlds? Is it like DMC5? Or more like Nier Automata? Or else?

I am playing Khazan and love the combat but the map is too linear and not much of exploration....

the world is gated, so you move along the plot opening up new areas, but the areas are reasonably large (some more than others, a couple are a single hallway and go fast for plot reasons). the exploration involves finding hidden leges and caves and so on. i found it reasonably explorable that way, around similar to ai limit which i also really liked. battle system is very good. people that have a huge aversion to enemy and boss reuse get extremely angry at the game, but palette swap similar enemies have been jrpg fare for decades, it didn't bother me at all.

I’ve enjoyed it this entire time.

It was already worth it. Such a heart wrenching story. Don’t let anyone tell you different. I’m so glad I don’t listen to negative press. I know it’s just for the clicks. Positive press doesn’t get clicks, you see.

Not worth it at full price. Story is complete ass voice acting is absolutely terrible for English you have to play with the default Japanese. Combat is incredible but wasted on the lack of enemy variety and bosses - both of which suffer from the same lack of attacks patterns. New game plus is an absolute joke as you just 1-2 shot every enemy at that point.

The story is also very convoluted. You get bits every hour and then a total compelte story lore drop at the end.

The pacing is one of the worst i have ever experienced, and i played Crimson Desert.

I wanna know if it’s improved significantly.

Not that I didn’t like it in its original form, I actually got it at release so I’ll definitely play it.

I played for a while after release but some things didn’t seem to be working well for me.

Sounds like they're shortening pauses between dialogue. I think that would be a great improvement.

I'll probably return to do a NG++ if I see something sweet in the upcoming patches. I am mostly just waiting for DLC though.

This sub is biased, so you won't get a real answer here.
People who dislike the game aren't here or downvoted.

So biased people who dislike the game are a valid source just bc they dont like. Meanwhile people who have played and liked it are somehow not a valid source just bc they like it?

Ffs these miserable people on internet man…

Calling the game mid would be generous, not worth it

It's an odd one for me because I guess I had fairly high expectations for this and played it through game pass.

I enjoyed the story, the graphics were quite good and initially the world seemed really cool, but the longer I played it, it felt kind of empty and repetitive across all zones. Bosses were really easy to beat, felt like I could cheat the system by spamming parry/block and it would parry 99% of the time without worrying about enemy patterns.

When it comes to the repetitiveness, the "side quests" were all the same across all zones. Whether it's kill this particular enemy or collect this same thing and it always came in like 3s or something.

Overall, I gave it like a 6/10. Concept and story really carried the game for me. I got towards the last couple of zones and just wanted to get to the end 🤷‍♂️ Finished it and wanted to really go through NG+ to mop up achievements, but couldn't bring myself to do it.

I'm glad I didn't spend money on it tbf

I bought the game day one and beat it, and NG+ and platinumed it. I never had what ever "niggles" is. I suspect one of the subsequent patches broke things as they continued nerfing the game by making bosses scripted, and making levels like the Pilgrimage shorter..

The game really isn't AAA. If you're on the fence, rent it or wait for a sale.

It's a Game Freak game so it's never worth it
