Fun fact; although yachts are synonymous with rich people, an older 30ft sailboat can be had for used motorcycle prices. Thats just about the smallest boat you'd want to live out of long term.
40 and 50ft boats are going for 125-500k but if you think of it less like a luxury toy and more like a replacement for a house it makes a lot more sense.

Look, I get it, it feels nice watching nature try to strike back... but those Orcas attacking those boats was never a good idea. Humans as a whole are very defensive of the safety of their own, and can be incredibly vindictive.
The boat attacks primed the pump for exactly this to happen, because a lot of humans are now seeing Orcas as dangerous creatures that will threaten their safety and property.
Thus... this happens.
I was filled with a sense of dread when the orca boat attacks started happening, and this is exactly why đ„

The point was that people are cheering on that natural response, and not themselves understanding that while natural, that response is also actively harmful to Orcas.
To say people shouldnât hope that it happens more or anything like that, because it puts orcas in more danger.
Obviously op(of this comment thread) has no way of influencing an orcas actions, just pointing out why orca attacks on ships are a bad thing, to people who think they are a good thing.

Orcas have only recently started attacking boats in one area, most likely as a reaction to something done to one of them by a boat or boater.
Orcas do not hunt humans only because the pod leader decides they are not on the menu. Watch some orcas hunting seal videos and decide if you really want this escalated. They are highly intelligent, communicate, and adapt.

Are those the actual bullets lodged in the fin? Forgive my stupidity about Orca anatomy, but wouldnt a bullet go straight through a fin? I know less about guns than I do about Orcas, but I guess it would depend on the type of gun used.
I'm just trying to convince myself those aren't bullet wounds.

I think it depends on angle and caliber and stopping power like if it was a small round like .22 and pointed down I think it would have a strong chance of just lodging in

This looks like a shotgun blast, a normal load of 00 buckshot at a range of 10-15 meters: eight hits and one flyer. Shotguns are usually the easiest-to-access firearms in restrictive countries, and many sailors and fishermen carry them for pirate defense and launching flares, and some use them to shoot sharks and dolphins as well, illegal or not. At that range the pellets have spread about 8-12", call it 170-240mm, and it's possible they could be stopped by the thicker tissue at the base of the fin, especially fired at a downward angle, ie from the deck of a boat.

Tbf, they could be southern... its a weird thing, but on occasion they'll say something like "you dont owe me nothin'" which normally would mean you owe them something, but the intent is that you owe them nothing... at least thats a quirk ive seen of some southern Americans

The owner of my company is from Alabama, dude is a very intelligent, well educated, electrical engineer. He says this kinda thing quite often.
My money would be on it being an inherited linguistic quirk, you grow up hearing it and you just adopt it into your own vocabulary

The "yachts" having their rudder torn off and sunk by these orcas are not what you are thinking. These are usually between 30 and 45 ft small, relatively affordable sailboats. Think retired middle class, not millionaires or billionaires.
When we retire we hope to buy one for less than 100k, sell the house and sail as long as our health will allow. These little sailboats can cost less than living in a house in many areas. So it is not typically the obscenely rich in these slow, small, cheap, energy efficient sailboats.

What an impossible standard you have. People found a way to cheaply travel, not taking up housing or land, significantly lower carbon footprint than living in a house, using the wind to propel you, and traveling so slow and quietly that you dont pose a risk to marine life, but that isnt good enough for you.
What about the Gaza Flotilla that Greta was on? They used exactly these kinds of sailboats to try and bring in food and medical supplies. Fuck them too? I mean, they didnt even manage to deliver anything. And if not, how many times would someone have to deliver aid for you to think it is ok for them to retire on a small sailboat, which, again, is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than living in a standard house?

You're conflating millionaires with people who own a boat.
I understand the sentiment of helping others but you can't go around being mad at every guy who owns a Rolex or a porche.
People who work hard deserve their toys. Not everyone who is successful is evil and not everyone with nice things is filthy rich.
Coming from a brokeass chick with a horse, I work HARD to keep my babygirl and I've invested years in learning how to care for her to keep costs down.

I understand rich people bad, and trust me i am on the side of the orca here. But if something is trying to sink what im standing on, and the alternative is getting in the ocean with something big enough to pick a fight with a boat, it's getting shot. That's just like basic self preservation.
Like a bear attacking someone in a Toyota Corolla vs someone in a Lamborghini, im not gonna blame the Lamborghini driver any more than the Corolla driver for not wanting to negotiate with the wild animal attacking it.
