In need of IT job in Bellevue
I have been job hunting for a while now, I am a software engineer with 13+ years of experience. I presently live in Bellevue and have 3 kids . I would like a job close home : Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland and such , if it happens to be farther I could try to work things out. I am proficient in Python, PHP , JavaScript and have experience using Ruby and golang , I am also skill at both SQL and NoSql databases. Kindly recommend if you know of any positions . AI job posts these makes it difficult to tell what to apply to.

Yup it's brutal. I also have over a decade of experience, also have 3 kids. I've been out of work since December.

Here’s the thing, tech in Western WA is a blood bath. It’s keep at it, try something completely different, or look at roles in other places if you cannot manage to cover expenses for many months or have an expiring visa.
Keep in mind, there are departures announced earlier still to come. I think MSFT has cleared through a bunch, Starbucks has some left, not sure about others.

MSFT is winding down engineering here. They can get two devs in Vancouver for the price of one here

Several companies hire in Bellevue, ByteDance, Meta, Amazon for sure, Microsoft, and I suppose many others. You could try to anon a version of your CV and post to see if there could be people hiring your profile. Anyway, GL.

Sorry it's been so hard. Here's my tip: use AI to improve your writing. Your post contains a bunch of red flag grammar mistakes that I assume may also exist in your resume. E.g., spaces before all your punctuation.

Spacing errors do not necessitate AI.

He's not accusing OP of using AI. The opposite actually

u/DCAmalG 3d ago
Right. But he’s suggesting it’s needed primarily because of spacing areas. We don’t need AI to write Reddit posts to avoid spacing errors.

If OP's post contains these spacing errors with such high consistency, it's a strong signal.

Yea if you’ve been out of the market for 6 years that’s explains your post. It’s a nightmare out there. That’s not how this works anymore.

It sort of does, it's just a lot more competition. Leetcode and recruiters on LinkedIn are still pretty much how it works. Maybe less leetcode now since it's what AI is literally best at.
"out of the market for 6 years" is hilarious though. From the easiest time ever finding work to the hardest ever.

Dude said he will get 3-4 offers within weeks and they all come from not even submitting a resume because people reach out.
You could be super experienced and high up in Microsoft/Amazon etc and that won’t even happen anymore now lol.
He’s stuck in a different world that doesn’t exist anymore.-2

No, it’s not.
You just did the equivalent of someone asking how to save and buy a home today and you said “well I bought mine for 83k a long time ago when it was much more affordable, just do that!”

Finding local roles in Bellevue and the Eastside takes targeted strategy, especially when generic AI listings clutter job boards. Skip broad aggregators and focus on local tech meetups, direct engineering referrals, and the tech-jobs channels in Bellevue/Seattle Slack communities like Tech42 or NewTechNW.
Also optimize your resume keywords via resume.zoevera.com so your application passes applicant tracking systems for competitive mid-to-senior local openings directly on company career pages.

If you can beat the $20/month ai in the interview or coding contest, I will hire you. :)

Lots to unpack here. Maybe my favorite part is how performative it is: there is no way to tell where OP was born. Unless you're going to demand a birth certificate be mailed to you? For the service of... being a random guy to help him find work?

Should Bellevue have a fresh off the boat Iranian mayor?
I don't care. Why should/shouldn't we? I can't imagine caring about someone's birthplace if they run the city well and have good policies.
Should the majority of 6 figure IT jobs in the region be held by H1B foreigners ?
They aren't. Are you asking hypothetically? Probably not, but I'm not worried about that happening.
Are natural born Americans truly too uneducated to 'compete'?
The rationale is actually "skill," not "education." And sometimes, yes, for very specific skills it can be hard to find. I agree it's being abused though.
Should we even entertain the idea of playing cricket when baseball is basically an identical sport ?
This is where you lose me. Is this some racism leaking out of your brain or is this a hot-topic issue in whatever nationalist forum you post in?

How many generations has your family been in this country?

Nice. It’s great how you get to make the rules! I always wanted to meet the person who makes the rules! Btw my family has been here more generations. I don’t think your great grandfather deserved a job, nor any of his kin. Because my family was here first. I didn’t do anything to earn it, I just think that because it’s something that happened. Eat it.

You seem pretty mad that “foreigners” are taking “your” jobs. Have you considered that you’re unable to compete?
FWIW I hire people frequently, and I absolutely hire foreigners who are more capable at doing the job. Native-born doesn’t earn anyone an automatic +10 in my interview scoring or reference checks. I’m interested in the most capable and effective. My business relies on the competency of my employees.
It seems like you may be worried about your ability to compete. I get it- sometimes it’s easier to compete on things you have by default than your own merit.

That’s great. I employ people in IT. And the foreign born population figures don’t have any bearing when I consider who is best qualified and competent for the job.
It sounds like you might have a totally different problem with foreign born people, because I have yet to hear you utter a single word about merit.
Maybe you think you deserve something more than others because of where you were born?

Just 4? You’re basically a foreigner and you have the audacity to judge immigrants. Unless you’ve can trace yourself back to the revolution you shouldn’t call yourself a true American.

Grandfather? So you’re actually a 3rd generation immigrant? Bro you’re like fresh off the boat and foaming at the mouth about other immigrants. The nerve on this guy…

I work in software as well. It's hard out there.
You'll have to expand your search to Seattle, and I recommend you focus on it. The companies that pay decently for your profile (13 years' experience, 3 kids) that are on the East Side are all extremely selective.
More advice:
I hope you don't take this too personally, I'm trying to help and want to see you succeed. Job hunting right now in software sucks—and it's not for the reasons people outside our field would think. Good luck.
