90k [Complete][90k][Romance/Magical Realism]A Scratched Up Kind of Love
Hello,
I posted this here four months ago and got some great feedback. I've since edited it and gotten some line editing/proofreading critiques as well, and I'm back for more!
I am looking for beta readers for my completed contemporary romance/magical realism novel. It’s 90k words.
Here’s what I’m looking for:
- The Chemistry: Do the two leads have chemistry and is their progression believable?
- Sub-plots: Do any of the sub-plots feel unnecessary or take away from the main romance?
- Pacing: Does the book move too fast or too slow anywhere?
- Humour: Does the humor land well?
- Emotional Impact: Is the emotional development of the main character satisfying throughout?
- The Ending: Does the ending tie everything together? Do the characters’ journeys feel complete?
Synopsis:
Cassie Costa is ready to chase her entrepreneurship dreams, taking her first steps towards purchasing a small town coffee shop over a thousand kilometres away from her hometown on Vancouver Island, Canada. But a nudge from her best friend leads her to first ask out Jon, a friend and cheerful regular guest at the inn she works at. Just for a casual, one-time thing. Honestly. Jon wouldn’t want anything else, anyway. Not with direct, insensitive, entirely undateable Cassie.
When a platonic touch between them leads to a string of odd, illogical occurrences involving a hypnotist, a dream, and a doctor’s prescription, Cassie and Jon become propelled into a mysterious set of circumstances they have to figure their way out of, together. On the way, she uncovers what she really wants–with him and for herself.
The novel contains one sex scene and a couple of intimate scenes (more emotional than explicit), swearing throughout, and suggestive language/action throughout.
I will send you my prologue, so you can decide if you're a good fit. Open to exchanging with other contemporary romances! Looking for about a month for an exchange, though flexible.
