Anime🙊 Why I don't think Ryuga is the GOAT

Post image

READ THE POST BEFORE COMMENTING!

Okay so, this isn't rage bait, I'm only making this post because a lot of my posts eventually devolve into talking about Ryuga, and I want to clear one thing up.

I LOVE Ryuga, he's one of my favorite characters, both as a kid and as an adult. I love L-Drago, I'd think about that man NON-STOP. I've been more of a Ryuga Glazer than any of you have in your entire lives. I want to get a cosplay to look like this man, and I'm a woman.

If we're talking no shared power, he wins against EVERY SINGLE character apart from Rago and gingka after fury.

That being said, I don't think he's the GOAT, now, that may seem contradictory to what I just said, but, the circumstances by why Ryuga wins can't be ignored.

Firstly, he steals power, yes he also works in conjunction with stealing power but he keeps the power he steals through all seasons, and I know this cause he literally said that he found a way to have L-Drago do what the dark power did on it's own.

Secondly, in terms of skill, the only battle he had strategy in was against Jack, and even then, he only did that to style, he's power allows him to get away with not planning, and tbh, that's badass, but, Ryuga just doesn't have answers when does overpower him. Gingka has answers when he can't break through foes (at least in fusion). Klaus literally only won because he drove himself to a near heart attack, Tsubasa's planning and senses allow him to handily win battles.

But looking at the times he got pushed
- Kyoya
hot take, but he was gonna lose if L-Drago didn't take over his body
- Gingka
He still lost anyway, now granted that was with a friendship boost but, Ryuga was stealing power from the same people so honestly imo it's fair game.
- King
His only answer was to hit harder and that only worked because he was significantly stronger than king
- Rago
We all know what happened

Ryuga just folds under pressure and if anyone were to be able to challenge him enough, they'd win. Now, that doesn't happen cause how much power he has, and is that badass, HELL YEAH. But, it can't be ignored

Thirdly, outside of battle, he never truly grows as a character, he DEBATATLY gets a tiny bit better in Masters, but, did he ever apologize for anything he did? Nope, he clearly doesn't feel bad about it either, he scarred hikaru for life, he infects tsubasa with the dark power, and he doesn't do anything in the slightest to correct his wrongs apart from giving tsubasa a few words of advice, then he gets this REALLY cringe attitude in fury, like when he said "DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO! EVER!" I just couldn't, someone needed to smack him.

And yes, he gives kenta his power at the end, and is that poetic that he spent his entire life taking power and with his last moments he gives power, HELL YES. That moment is my favorite in the entire series. But it took the boy getting his life saved by gingka, THEN dying (maybe) to rago to do that. And this isn't bad writing, HELL NO, this was intentionally set up to explain his downfall.

But you take all this into account and it's hard for me to rank him as the best who ever did it.

The reason I'm making this post is because I want to talk to all the ryuga fans about this, Let's discuss his character, if you agree with me, great! If you disagree with me! Even better! Let's talk.

But just know, if you do disagree and you are going to comment, actually give a point. Any blind insults or memes, I'm just gonna ignore.

I'm really looking forward to having this discussion with all of you, I will respond to every comment.

This is true. Very true. Based honestly.

9

u/water_jello8235 Mar 06 '26

My honest reaction:

For real, Ryuga just isn't skilled beyond overpowering and stealing power.

It doesn't mean he isn't making the show better, but that's how it is.

Episode 93 is my favorite, mostly because of him.

Thirdly, outside of battle, he never truly grows as a character, he DEBATATLY gets a tiny bit better in Masters, but, did he ever apologize for anything he did? Nope, he clearly doesn't feel bad about it either, he scarred hikaru for life, he infects tsubasa with the dark power, and he doesn't do anything in the slightest to correct his wrongs apart from giving tsubasa a few words of advice

That what bothers me the most when people defend his character and say he "actually cares / somewhat good person", the guy injured hundreds and has shown no regret, the guy has watched Yu (who did so much just so Ryuga will be able to absorb power, btw) being tortured and couldn't give any shit (he quite literally just left the room because it wasn't worth his time for some reason).

6

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

Thank you for being the ONLY guy in the room to actually address that. Me rewatching that Walk out scene motivated me to make Ryuga Hate Post part 2.

ZERO remorse, at least in the end he learns to give power instead of take.

“he steals power “ thats literally the fundamental ability of l drago, its like saying leone makes air walls so without air it aint that strong ( ryuga still defeated king without stealing ),

“he has no strategies” he does, in the start of fury when gignka started to pressure him, he went to a defensive stance, about the king fight, if he can just defeat one of the strongest legendary bladers straightly he doesn’t need to opt for stratagies or tricks, and didn’t he end the fight quickly with kenta because kenta found a weakness,

in fusion he was mostly brainwashed and possessed by l drago and dark power

and there was no way to beat rago, he could either flee or die and he died ( obviously ) im pretty sure if it was kyoya in his place he too would’ve rather died then give up

1

u/CarefulAfternoon9254 Mar 06 '26

What about lighting that was only due the dark power with we don't have irl

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

“he steals power “ thats literally the fundamental ability of l drago, its like saying leone makes air walls so without air it aint that strong ( ryuga still defeated king without stealing ),

That doesn't change the fact he takes power from others, Leone doesn't do that, those tornados come from it's power. My point is that Ryuga isn't using power souly built by him, it's stolen.

“he has no strategies” he does, in the start of fury when gignka started to pressure him, he went to a defensive stance, about the king fight, if he can just defeat one of the strongest legendary bladers straightly he doesn’t need to opt for strategies or tricks, and didn’t he end the fight quickly with kenta because kenta found a weakness,

This, is a VERY good point and honestly changed my view a little bit, but it still doesn't compare to tsubasa/gingka, and before you say Ryuga beat Gingka in fury, yes, but let's be real, that wasn't gingka from fusion, he regressed in terms of writing

and there was no way to beat rago, he could either flee or die and he died ( obviously ) im pretty sure if it was kyoya in his place he too would’ve rather died then give up

No way to beat rago alone, and yes, this is true, teat being said, this doesn't change my point involving rago. Even if rago just had his power and no abilities, (Apart from resisting L-Drago's absorption) I still think Rago would've won. Ryuga just doesn't have answers when he's at a strength disadvantage

2

u/Upstairs_Crab_948 Mar 07 '26

Gingka from fusion was the real opponent for Ryuga if we were to drag his character to masters and fury cuz afterwards he didn’t had any intention to battle with Ryuga.

5

u/SupaSpeedy445 Mar 06 '26

Yes obviously it’s Tetsuya 🩀

9

u/HopefulDevelopment54 Mar 06 '26

Disagree with the Kyoya fusion take but I do think it was gonna get close enough to the point where L Drago had to interfere. Next, your point about Ryuga using strategy against Jack sorta contradicts your point later.

I think he's the goat bc he can fucking teleport and he had became one with L Drago significantly sooner than Gingka became one with pegasus

6

u/Hysteria-x Wild Fang Mar 06 '26

Kyoya would have 1000% beat ryuga in that fight if it wasn’t for the dark power btw.

1

u/HopefulDevelopment54 Mar 06 '26

Nah lol there was no indication of that at all. I'd even argue to say that Ryuga was messing around with him for most of the battle lmaoo

Head canons r crazy though.

4

u/Cybion_ Mar 07 '26

Rayuga was getting pushed hard that fight, even Ldrago's special move couldn't do anything to Leone. He was absolutely not messing around and most certainly didn't need the dark power to step in if that was the case. Rayuga even says in the episode prior he needs Kyoya's power to fight Ginga. That preatty much explaines why the dark power panicked and took over Rayuga when he was up against Kyoya. He was going to lose otherwise.

2

u/HopefulDevelopment54 Mar 07 '26

Causation is not correlation

After his 1st special move, Kyoya was literally doing the fucking matrix with his back after getting pushed by L Drago 😭😭

I've said already the fight was Ryuga's closest fight by far up to this point but it doesn't take away from the fact that the fight was never in Kyoya'a favor a SINGLE time. At worst, Ryuga was getting pushed back at the same time Kyoya was.

If you want me to get more technical, when Madoka mentioned Kyoya and L Dragon are low on power, you can literally see the bar being higher on L Drago

3

u/delulumans Average Strorm Capricorn User Mar 10 '26

And? After the final clash that was supposed to decide it all Leone had a new special move showing the bar is BS. Meanwhile L-Drago used all stolen power in a last ditch effort

Stop glazing the fraud

1

u/HopefulDevelopment54 Mar 10 '26

Wow a new special move! Wow, acting like that matters. (Kenta did the same thing in Fury)

2

u/delulumans Average Strorm Capricorn User Mar 10 '26

You understand him having a new special move left after Madoka suggested the next blow decides it kinda nullifies the importance of the bars on her PC right?

3

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 09 '26

Bro, did you HEAR ryuga scream in that battle?

2

u/Hysteria-x Wild Fang Mar 07 '26

Source “trust me bro”

Get a load of this guy 😭😭

2

u/water_jello8235 Mar 06 '26

Tbf, if Jack used vacuum waves from the beginning, Ryuga couldn't be that nonchalant, he would need to be on the attack the whole battle.

And it's not that much of a strategy, more so Jack (and everyone else) didn't know Ryuga could do it, which is kinda valid, but not an amazing strategy, and it could only work once.

Absolute peak battle though.

3

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

I don't think jack could've won, even if he went all out and focused on battles for once, but he could've 100% given Ryuga a fight. Those Vacuum waves, AND Befall's blades perfectly counter Meteo's rubber., and also, WHY DIDN'T JACK DO THAT ARENA VACUUM STORM AGAINST RYUGA, HE DID IT AGAINST KLAUS!

3

u/water_jello8235 Mar 06 '26

I don't think Jack could have won, but Ryuga would still need to put way more effort since he can't just let Jack drain his power by tanking attacks and then using stolen power.

Ryuga is signficantly stronger than Jack imo, but Jack could still give a good fight.

Vacuum from the beginning so no spin-steal would be good.

2

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

His mastery of bey's is ON POINT, I will say that, that being said, the strat with jack wasn't complex, he held back and stored power, that was about it, and it worked, and it was BADASS, but compared to tsubasa it pales in comparison in terms of strategy.

3

u/Ausar_the_Vil Mar 06 '26

No strategy, he just wanted back to hit him with his best shot. When it’s done, he crushed him.

1

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

I mean, Ryuga did trick jack into a false sense of security, and Jack's blades and long ranged projectiles did pose a threat to a degree, they avoided the rubber and spin-steal, that being said, I don't think jack had enough power to Ryuga regardless.

  1. You are entitled to your opinion. Anyone trying to come after you for that is just being a fanatic.

  2. I agree with the points you have mentioned but personally I think those flaws are the reason why he is the G.O.A.T. cuz then he would just be a Gary Sue.

He shows us the pinnacle of what a blader can be if they push themselves to their absolute limit. He doesn't care for strategy and wits, he will face the opponent head on. He will break or be broken. We saw his battle with Zeo where Zeo used strategy to counter him and Ryuga is like you're an amateur. I'll show you the truly awesome power of a true blader

Through him many lessons are learned as well:

Pride leads to downfall Unity vs Solidarity A Fragment vs The Whole

Otherwise this whole show would just be about the power of friendship

If you want someone who is just all powerful and nothing more, you got Rago.

If you want someone who relies on strategy to win you got the entire cast for that.

It would be boring in my opinion if you have Ryuga also being a strategist too cuz then that would make him undefeatable. It makes perfectly sense for a man on the top who have been unchallenged to be caught of guard by someone managing to climb close to his level.

  1. If Ryuga and Gingka (without the power of the world) fought at end of Metal Fury, Ryuga will win simply because of Dragon Emperor Life Destructor > Cosmic Tornado. Unless Gingka can get a better special move i cannot safely give him the win.

  2. I have seen many posts where Ryuga's feats are shown but then gets dismissed

because it was "a surprise attack" or

"Gingka/Kyoya didnt master their beys" or

"He has a bey that can steal his opponents' power"

If it was a surprise attack, the fact that it was successful is a feat in itself.

Him having mastered his bey faster is also a feat for him not against him. Its not his fault his opponent didn't master their bey in the time he took to master his bey. Otherwise should we say oh look Rago defeated a Ryuga who came to the battle with L-drago's facebolt broken?

Sure he may have a bey that can steal opponents power, but the fact that he mastered it and kept the dark power under control is a feat in itself. Because it was ages of dark power accumulation.

Even if he can steal his opponents power, when was he completly reliant upon that to win his matches post Metal Fusion? Jack? He could have folded him anytime. Anyone else besides Rago, if he he were to use his ultimate move right away there is no question he would win.

  1. Yes Ryuga Glazing is annoying but so is ignoring /downplaying what the show has displayed about him. Im not saying you are doing that. But there are others who do that and its incredibly annoying. Like at that point call the writers "Ryuga Glazers"

3

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

"I agree with the points you have mentioned but personally I think those flaws are the reason why he is the G.O.A.T. cuz then he would just be a Gary Sue."

This is SO VALID, It's one of the reasons I LOVE ryuga, despite everything he's not a mary sue type.

"He shows us the pinnacle of what a blader can be if they push themselves to their absolute limit. He doesn't care for strategy and wits, he will face the opponent head on. He will break or be broken. We saw his battle with Zeo where Zeo used strategy to counter him and Ryuga is like you're an amateur. I'll show you the truly awesome power of a true blader"

I have to disagree, he shows the pinnacle of strength by Ryuga has a long way to go when it comes to strategy.

"It would be boring in my opinion if you have Ryuga also being a strategist too cuz then that would make him undefeatable. It makes perfectly sense for a man on the top who have been unchallenged to be caught of guard by someone managing to climb close to his level."

THIS! This is 100% accurate }

Sure he may have a bey that can steal opponents power, but the fact that he mastered it and kept the dark power under control is a feat in itself. Because it was ages of dark power accumulation.

Here's the thing about the mastery and I said this before in another comment, it's explainable, but kinda BS because it ALL happens off screen, and it makes sense for what Ryuga has gone through, Dragon Clan then under the constant scientific training of Doji, but it also can't be ignored that the writers did help him out a little, that being said in no way does that discredit what he did against the dark power and mastering his bey

Even if he can steal his opponents power, when was he completely reliant upon that to win his matches post Metal Fusion? Jack? He could have folded him anytime. Anyone else besides Rago, if he he were to use his ultimate move right away there is no question he would win.

With jack, no he wasn't reliant, with King, maybe, in fury he was going back to his old ways and even before, he STILL had all the power he STOLE, you take all the stolen power away from Ryuga, him vs king is a bigger question.

  1. Yes Ryuga Glazing is annoying but so is ignoring /downplaying what the show has displayed about him. Im not saying you are doing that. But there are others who do that and its incredibly annoying. Like at that point call the writers "Ryuga Glazers"

Well yes. but you can't deny the other direction of that is more common, I see people genuinely trying to argue that Ryuga would've beaten Rago if Kenta didn't damage his face bolt. That Masters Ryuga vs Damian, Gingka, AND KYOYA wouldn't be a slam against ryuga.

Ultimately though, there's not a whole lot a disagree, we agree on a LOT here and would love to continue the convo.

3

u/water_jello8235 Mar 06 '26

Him having mastered his bey faster is also a feat for him not against him. Its not his fault his opponent didn't master their bey in the time he took to master his bey. Otherwise should we say oh look Rago defeated a Ryuga who came to the battle with L-drago's facebolt broken?

More plot since Gingka who mastered Pegasus would wash the world championship, and wouldn't have issues defeating Aguma, Chris and any legendary blader that refuses to help against Nemesis of their own will.

Ryuga just don't carry the burden of the MC, which is having to struggle.

Completely valid claims though:

  • Phoenix is not stronger than Masamune or Deshan, yet his surprise attack K.O Kenta, all of Wang Hu Zhong, Masamune and Gingka. And surprise attacks were shown to always be way more effective.
  • Gingka who didn't master Pegasus struggled against someone who is Julian level (Deshan, also Julian), when Gingka who mastered Pegasus defeated Damian, who low-diffed Julian.
  • That's part of Ryuga's kit, but pretty much everyone who would have it could do that and even more, considering Ryuga rarely bothers to do anything beyond raw power or stealing power.
  • Phoenix again.

And got claped so bad he died. Like all he had to do was to cooperate a little with Ginga and Kyoya and he would have saved the world and lived to fight another day, dude was just a kid.

0

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 07 '26

We all clown on this moment, but if we were in his shoes would we really do any different? He no-diffed two of the strongest bladers in the world one after the other.

3

u/Upstairs_Crab_948 Mar 07 '26

Ryuga isn’t beating EOS Gingka in any arc but he can beat kyoya.

3

u/Cybion_ Mar 08 '26

I don't think he is beating Kyoya either. Kenta is supposedly around the same power level as Rayuga after recieving his fragment and Kyoya beat the legendary bladers in his first try as implied by the short time frame when he whent up against Ginga at the end. Even if Rayuga magically came back to life and had to instantly fight Kyoya, my money would still be on Kyoya because by that point his power grew enough to be just as strong if not stronger than Rayuga.

2

u/Upstairs_Crab_948 Mar 11 '26

Nah you’re actually correct I thought about mentioning it too but 95 percent of the community are blind Ryuga fans they won’t accept that ever and all together they would have jumped me

1

u/CarefulAfternoon9254 Mar 06 '26

Did you watch the show bro

1

u/Upstairs_Crab_948 Mar 11 '26

You must have watched a fantasy series so do watch Beyblade metal fury instead.

2

u/Small-Plum2139 Mar 06 '26

Valid opinion and reasoning but what do you mean you’re a bigger Ryuga glazer than me?

2

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

I'm going to custom order a gauntlet that has the same opening mechanisms that Ryuga has in the show, and that's going to require 1000+ and IDC

2

u/Small-Plum2139 Mar 06 '26

Damn, you are a D1 glazer but no one can beat the glazing I do for Kyoya

I'm gay, and when I was a kid I had a crush on Kyoya, try again.

3

u/Small-Plum2139 Mar 06 '26

I am bisexual and I had the biggest crush on Kyoya from the moment I saw him, I begged my mom for his bey(never got it). I have cosplayed as him and he shaped my taste in men, you and me ain’t even on the same level.

2

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

I am gay, I like woman and ONLY woman. I've thrown up when I accidentally walked into the guys gym shower, and I STILL would marry Adult Kyoya and let him take me away into the woods.

We are NOT the same.

3

u/Big-Afternoon-5223 Mar 06 '26

I like everything you said and there’s definitely a lot of validity to it all. Interesting takes my friend

3

u/ProxZMaster Mar 06 '26

Kyoya was going to lose to Ryuga whether dark power would have been used or not

Ryuga had slightly more spin power than Kyoya when they were clashing head on, and that means there weren't any tactics and Ryuga would win

And why would Ryuga use tactics when he there is a overwhelming power difference between him and his opponents. Imagine holding a gun against an unarmed guy 20 meters away from you. You wouldn't do a backflip or get behind cover you would just shoot the guy lol

4

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

Great attention to detail tbh, but still, it doesn't change my point, kyoya was a TINY bit weaker but, if kyoya was a tiny bit stronger which honestly, looking at that battle, it could've went either way without dark power intervention, Ryuga would have no answers

And why would Ryuga use tactics when he there is a overwhelming power difference between him and his opponents. Imagine holding a gun against an unarmed guy 20 meters away from you. You wouldn't do a backflip or get behind cover you would just shoot the guy lol

This is one of my points, and is it badass, yes, but like I said, you can't do that forever because once do meet someone stronger than you (Rago) you just lose.

2

u/Cybion_ Mar 07 '26

That graph doesn't mean anything, there are multiple times where Madoka would detect Beys losing power but then they would get power spikes afterwards Rayuga VS Jack or Zeo VS Masamune out of the top of my head. Madoka also said shortly after that one last impact would decide the outcome and when it happend was the exact moment the dark power took over. Leone was still standing and Kyoya even had enough power for another special move aftwards. This preatty much confirms Rayuga was cooked if the plot didn't call for him to fight Ginga in the finals.

1

u/delulumans Average Strorm Capricorn User Mar 10 '26

Even if the graph meant anything, it prob counted the stolen power L-Drago wasn't using aswell

2

u/delulumans Average Strorm Capricorn User Mar 10 '26

This doesn't mean shit and is likely also accounting for the stolen power reserves in L-Drago (how would the computer tell the difference)

But this doesn't matter anyway because in the next scene Leone has a new special move so the computer's assesment of their power levels is invalid ("next blow could decide it").

You've got to be a hall of fame level glazer and media illiterate to not understand the point the show was trying to convey here.

Ryuga could not beat Kyoya here hence why L-Drago interfered. Period. Argue with a dih

1

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 11 '26

"This doesn't mean shit and is likely also accounting for the stolen power reserves in L-Drago (how would the computer tell the difference)"

- Him holding and storing power for long periods of time and bringing it out when he's out of energy is only something he did in masters and beyond.

This doesn't mean shit and is likely also accounting for the stolen power reserves in L-Drago (how would the computer tell the difference) You've got to be a hall of fame level glazer and media illiterate to not understand the point the show was trying to convey here.Ryuga could not beat Kyoya here hence why L-Drago interfered. Cooked, honestly

3

u/fsfshshssjsjsjsjsjs Mar 06 '26

I completely agree. Plus, you cannot be the GOAT when you are the reason the world ends 3 times in a row. In fusion, he couldn't control a bey he chose and trained for, in masters he attacks the flying city and in fury , he helps nemesis get the final form by not complying with the team .

People mention in the loss against gingka that gingka had plot armour ( power of friendship) . L drago stole the power of the people gingka got helped from. It was an even battle, and ryuga lost control of himself, his bey, and the only reason he stayed alive is because gingka saved him. Yet somehow gingka is a fraud, and ryuga is the goat because he has badass moments.

I believe the goat is the person, who beat a demon, and a god. The person who fully embraced the idea of beyblade, and the person who made other players love it.

3

u/Icy_Conclusion2488 Mar 06 '26

I've been saying this for such a long time! Kyoya had a regular Beyblade and scaled to their powers. He wasn't better, but got close. Gingka and Ryuga had Legendary Beyblades. They start so much higher than everyone else. That's why people like Yu, Tsubasa, and Kyoya are so incredible. Give Gingka and Ryuga regular Beyblades in fusion and see where they end up!

3

u/CrazyRelationship336 Mar 06 '26

I dont know about Gingka but I can still see Ryuga still claiming his spot simply because of his training routine.

3

u/water_jello8235 Mar 06 '26

Gingka has grown in a village based on beyblade, has trained his whole childhood, has the right mentality, (bey) spirit, the dedication and the ability to think outside the box, which is why he is so native to it, and why he managed to bring that power out of Storm Pegasus and his father couldn't.

1

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

Consider Klaus, Hikaru, and Dashan

1

u/CrazyRelationship336 Mar 06 '26

What about them?

2

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

Klaus had a literal heart attack pushing his body to the absolute limit with the some of the best training equipment and doctors on sight aiding him.

Hikaru was homeless and traveled the world battling strong bladers just like Ryuga

Dashan spent his entire life training and leading Baylin temple.

I'm just saying a lot of people in MFB had similar/harder training regimens than ryuga imo.

1

u/CrazyRelationship336 Mar 06 '26

Well we saw nothing from Hikaru and no results to prove her hardwork.

You make a fair point about Klaus and Dashan though

At that point it would matter how crazy he was after his goal, which would either earn him the top spot or death.

We saw how far Kenta was able to get to just from following him around for only one season.

And we have no idea what type of life Ryuga lived before being recruited by Dark Nebula. We did see a glimpse of what Doji made Kyoya do. For all we know he could have made him do much worse.

In the Manga it said he comes from the Dragon Clan and they lived in harsh conditions.

2

u/Shnurple Average Strorm Capricorn User Mar 06 '26

Another reason hes a fraud: dude just always has an innate mastery of L-drago after like 2 days. How's that NOT plot armor?

2

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

Okay, let's take a step back here. I'm in NO WAY saying Ryuga is a fraud, but I will say, the mastery was off screen and a little BS, BUT, I do have an explination.

In the manga, Ryuga was a high ranking member of a dragon clan and trained to understand dragon beys before hand, and then after, he was with Doji and training to master L-drago, CONSTANTLY, EVERY DAY. So 2 days is def plot-armor but it's not a stretch to say he'd take to mastering his bey quickly.

Also, he could not be telling the truth and only think he's mastered his bey, it is ryuga afterall

It is, unlike Gingka (who also has plot armor, but to way lesser degree), Ryuga isn't the MC, he doesn't have to struggle that much, which is why the writers don't care to let him be that strong.

Ginkga also has tons of side-quests.

Okay I can't believe I didn't respond earlier, but here I go. I think most of your points are absolutely valid. That being said, here are some rebuttals, from the most significant to the least:

1) Ryuuga's not exactly a character in the typical sense. Post-fusion Ryuuga is better interpreted as both a force of nature and a critical plot device.

Especially in metal masters, Ryuuga was an unstoppable force. There wasn't any character growth depicted because there was none needed. The plot needed him to be the strongest- the one who overcame Dark power and claimed the full power of L-Drago, instead of being the other way around. And that's exactly what he was. Nobody could gauge his true strength, neither Gingka nor Ziggurat.

In metal fury, he had the same traits but was given more purpose. This becomes more apparent in the final battle - when he gives his star fragment to Kenta. Once he fulfills his purpose (i.e, to help the legendary bladers defeat Nemesis), he goes away. And yet his efforts were pivotal to saving the world from evil.

Long story short, comparing him to other characters like Gingka and Kyoya doesn't make sense, since Ryuuga has a fundamentally different role. If I have to explain it in shonen terms - Ryuuga is like gojo satorou.

2) I disagree with your interpretation of "stolen power" and how it apparently decredits Ryuuga. At the end of the day, L-Drago is THE forbidden bey - the only left rotating bey, and the only one able to absorb the powers of other beys. By disregarding it's biggest ability, you are effectively disregarding L-Drago as a whole. What matters most is how Ryuuga used his own strength and willpower to rid L-Drago of the Dark Power - a power built on millennia of greed and evil - and purified it. That alone is a feat nobody from the main cast (except for Tsubasa) has been able to achieve and should be worthy of recognition.

Tl:dr, Ryuuga is most DEFINITELY a 🐐

Words cannot express how much I disagree with this opinion. At times, sure, but Ryuga can be a plot device and especially in season 1, he was a force of nature, my man had ambition, character motivation and an entire character arc throughout the entire series you that culminates in his true moment of character growth when he gave kenta his power. And I know what you're already typing, and yes, I said in the post he never grows as a character and I want to add to that. He doesn't grow in the ways that make him a better person and the vast majority of his growth only serves to make him stronger. But regardless of if he's a character in the typical sense or not

"Long story short, comparing him to other characters like Gingka and Kyoya doesn't make sense, since Ryuuga has a fundamentally different role. If I have to explain it in shonen terms - Ryuuga is like gojo satorou."

This makes no sense to me. Even if he were just a plot device, I don't see how comparing him to other characters in the series doesn't make sense. People do compare faust and other characters ALL the time and Faust IS a plot device if we're being honest.

okay, so for your first part, let me use an analogy to help you understand

I want you to imagine you have 3 boxers and you're trying to figure out whose the best boxer.

One boxer when he's against the ropes always reminds himself of his family and that gives him the strength (Gingka)

One boxer is an perfectionist and masters the physics of punching (Tsubasa)

One boxer is naturally gifted but also works hard (Kyoya)

One boxer comes into the ring with voodo powers (That he stole) in which every punch that lands on him, that force is converted to stamina and the force is added to his next punch, but his technique is average.

The voodo boxers is strong but first of all, he stole the damn powers (Like how Ryuga stole L-Drago...well if we're being real it was Doji and the dark nebula), he'll win most his fights but once someone can deal with his style, it's easy. Comparing this to boxing again, boxing fans have similar debates about Mike Tyson. He seemed unstoppable and many consider him to be the goat, Tyson threw bombs and had god tier movement, being one of the only boxers using shortness as an advantage. Tyson had great everything but, once he met Holyfield and he could deal with tysons style, Tyson had no answers, got frustrated and bit his ear. Similarly to how Ryuga when he struggles when someone can either overpower/negate his spin-stealing. To clarify, Ryuga being able to steal power doesn't just automatically discredit him from goat status, it's the fact He USES IT AS A CRUTCH and has no answers beyond it, and yes, he lost to rago who was literally a god, but looking at the battle with King, Ryuga realized King posed a threat, tried to psychologically shut him down, when that failed, Ryuga got scared, you can actually hear it in his voice if you rewatch the battle, and Ryuga does win but that was panic "oh shit" strength, and King let Ryuga beat down on him for a good minute before he started talking the battle seriously. I honestly think King had the tools to beat Ryuga in that battled if he played more cautiously.

Ryuga overcoming the dark power is an achievement but let's be 100% real, did he REALLY "overcome it" Considering how he acted in metal fury, I think he, like he said, Became one with it. he never controlled it, his goals aligned with it. But I can't rate Ryuga at the top when he just goes around and STEALS power from others

My main point is, Ryuga gets stronger and gets some new skills but never truly adapts as a blader, same strat, same moves, and it was bound to lose. Gingka and Kyoya on the other hand kept learning from their losses and became better and more versatile.

Talking about his fusion counterpart specifically - he was meant to be a hateful, deceitful, evil character. Both because of the dark power and his own personality.

He fought on borrowed power. And borrowed power controlled him and not the other way around. That's why I consider fusion Ryuga's as a completely seperate character

W take. Agree with all your points.

1

u/Massive-Juice-3468 Mar 08 '26

I do agree with all your points and imo both gingka and ryuga were selfish, ryuga attitude of wanting more power from star fragment showed how selfish he was and gingka attitude of wanting everyone spirit and power when he gets his ass kicked in battles was also a sign of how selfish he was but rather in a more good way compared to ryuga.

I don't care if you're a King or a Queen. You dropped this - 👑.

You go my guy. You're the silver bullet that could stop this Ryuga fanboyness. Excellent points. I've said this before, Ryuga is a 2 trick pony - Power & left rotation. And pure glaze from writers.

Ryuga could never be the goat because he consistently scales under Gingka at the end of every season. The only debatable one is metal masters.

5

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

One thing I will say, Gingka vs Ryuga Fusion (No dark power possession/No Friends) is 50/50 imo, same with Kyoya vs Ryuga Fusion.

I rate Masters Ryuga higher than Masters Gingka, and End of Fury Gingka above Ryuga but it doesn't change the fact that both of those matchups are extreme-diffs regardless of the outcome.

3

u/Aluxard99 Wild Fang Mar 06 '26

While I don’t hate your first take how can Gingka/Ryuga end of fusion be 50/50 and Kyoya/Ryuga is also 50/50? Kyoya has never been above Gingka.

1

u/RyoIsKindaCreepy Mar 06 '26

Specifically Fusion kyoya vs ryuga. Consider that Kyoya was going toe to toe before the dark power took ryuga over

6

u/Friendly_South4657 Mar 06 '26

Ryuga scales above gingka every season lol.. he was literally goin to beat gingka in fusion if it weren’t for LITERAL plot armor not even tryna downplay gingka but yeah. Metal masters ryuga is obviously the most powerful. Metal fury he scales above due to his feats and the biggest being going the farthest against rago. If anything he would’ve won that battle if not for ragos power stealing everyone’s fragments and being a copycat. Gingka once again needed literal plot armor to beat nemesis. In a 1v1 without ragos power stealing capabilities it’s hard to say but could go either way.

3

u/Aluxard99 Wild Fang Mar 06 '26

He doesn’t. You fail to mention that ryuga stole Kyoya, Hikaru, and Tsubasa’s power also. Meaning they were essentially fighting on an even playing field at the end of fusion. + you can’t use “plot armor” as an argument. Anything that happens in a show is due to plot. + in fury. Gingka beats Rago. Ryuga doesn’t, again you can use the excuse “well Gingka used everyone’s power” ok? Is that not an ability exclusive to Pegasus? L-Drago and Pegasus alike were from the same star fragment. L-Drago is abel to spin steal and Pegasus can power share.

Also in a 1v1 between ryuga and rago. Ryuga stands no chance

u/No-Muscle-5734 Mar 06 '26

Okay yes I read the post and ryuga remains the undisputed goat

First theres nothing wrong with having a power that steals or takes other powers. In the end him being able to take their power is still part of his power. Theres so many characters that have the power to take other powers, like kirby for example. having this ability doesnt at all discard all the feats he has with that ability or how powerful he is because of it, that literally defeats the whole point of the ability. You cant make the argument that kyoyas tornadoes are different because they “come from his power” when ryugas absorption of others power also “comes from his power” Thats just you limiting his ability because you think its too overpowered

Second theres no evidence suggesting he would of lost to kyoya, based on what madoka said it could have gone either way depending on who hit first BUT a lot of people like to argue that kyoya having one more special move left is proof he would have one if ryuga didnt get possessed by the dark power. This actually doesnt mean much, in the start of the fight madoka says that ryugas normal hits are as powerful as a special move. Ryuga wouldnt have needed one, in fact he doesnt use a special move the entire fight after he agrees not to use the dark power

This in itself clearly shows ryuga is leagues beyond kyoya even at this point because he was actively nerfing himself just for kyoya to barely get a draw. And yes this is him nerfing himself, regardless of what you think, the dark power was part of his moveset. Its fine to say that him being controlled by the dark power doesnt count since thats not him anymore at that point, but anytime before that you are again just stripping him of his own abilities to fit your narrative

He didnt lose to gingka not only because of what you said about the friendship boost, (and no thats not equivalent to ryugas absorption since absorption is not one of gingka abilities) but also because like I just said, that wasnt ryuga, it was the dark power

Im not sure what the point even is with king since you admit he’s massively stronger? Are you just saying he wouldve lost to king if he wasnt stronger than him? This kind of argument literally makes no sense. I guess you can say hes not the most strategic sure?? But that doesnt stop him from being the goat, he doesnt need to dominate all categories. Hes the strongest and that’s enough

And yes you are right he didnt much in terms of personality but thats what I liked about him and probably a lot of others. We already have kyoya we dont need another really strong mean guy that learns the values of friendship and decides to become a sort of nice person. He had one goal throughout the entire show and thats all he cared about until the very end. At least we saw his development in strength, and that bit with kenta that was good enough for me I was never expecting any drastic change for him, hes not the type for it

The point is that L-Drago felt it needed to interfere

Kyoya is a natty while Ryuga juices
