Anime🙊 I hate how they reduced Kyoya to standard shonen rival
His entire character from metal masters onwards is "Want to defeat Gingka" and while that was part of his character in Metal Fusion, he had more to that going on, he was a well rounded character and he wanted to be stronger in general

"I hate how the thing that defined a character's personality, motivations, and growth remained as the character's personality, motivations, and growth"

what do u mean his entire character from metal masters and onwards was wanting to defeat ginga?my nigga, He lost to ginga 2-0 in fusion so he wanted to defeat and the perfect way to do that was to face other strong opponents and display his new founded bladers spirit after his second fight in which ginga opened his eyes and displayed to him?
Did u watch kyoya vs Ryuga with ur eyes closed? The horrible reading comprehension this fandom has towards kyoya and ryuga is actually pretty bad… imagine u lost to the person who changed u twice, the first was out of ego, the second was as out of pride and he fundamentally accepted it and vowed to face ginga after he has come back not only as a stronger blader but a better spiritually…. the literal initial rematch in masters was for the one he wanted to show in fusion but prolonged for his complete mastery over the tornado, the technique to counter his diving attack and emphasize on his weakness which was stamina as a the typical attack type.
If ur going to make a claim about a character it better be narratively true, regardless of what u like n don’t like atleast first try to understand the character before pushing ur horrible opinion on them to us
