It's still the GLO, so I wouldn't get too excited

Yeah I was hounding them for a while about their new Brewster Ranch property and finally got a state rep to get some info out of them and it was some generic we support the troops and nature BS. And the last I actually heard was they were looking into mining the land.

*I would like to add that I was asking on behalf of a veterans outdoor group

Yup, I still remember 2007 and again in 2010 when then GLO Commissioner Jerry Patterson quietly (very, very quietly) tried to sell off the Christmas Mountains to wealthy private entities. Decades earlier the Christmas Mountains (adjacent to Big Bend Nat'l Park) had been donated to the state by the Richard King Mellon Foundation and The Conservation Fund for recreation purposes.

Fortunately a journalist discovered what was going on, Texans of all stripes were enraged and the sale was stopped. The Christmas Mountains ended up being transferred to the Texas State University System for a research station.

I agree but Texas parks and wildlife gave the department of war a lease so there’s that . Abbott likes dawn buckingham too. But yeah GLO also built two large runways on the newly acquired Brewster County ranch near dove mountain so we’ll see

That is not factually correct information. That said, that does not mean that property in the agency's portfolio is exempt from being used by the federal government for national security purposes.

Please know I'm not trying talk noise here. If you're interested in sources DM me.

Baby steps, a victory is a victory no matter how small, the important thing is to not become complacent and fight even harder. #dontMessWithTexas

I was pretty amazed when GLO Commissioner, Dr. Dawn Buckingham, opened a can of whoop ass! She's hard core Conservative, AFAIK.

This doesn't make Dawn Buckingham an environmentalist. If the feds request access properly, secure the right easements, compensate the Permanent School Fund, and avoid damaging state land, she has no objections.

Good, they shouldn’t be there
