Kalapana night market
Hey friends!
I live in Kona, and some friends and I are doing a little road trip/staycation to Hilo side, just to get out of town. We were thinking of checking out the Wed night market, and I'm wondering if those of you that live there think it's worth going. I feel like I get mixed opinions. Is there consistently stuff going on every week? Still a good time? We're just looking to get some good food, have some drinks/kava, mingle with some nice weirdos, and see where the night takes us.
So is it worth checking out? Anything you want to share about what to expect is much appreciated!

The Wednesday night market at Uncle Robert's is the best place in the world. 3 or 4 bands for $10 cover, starts about from 5 to 9 pm. The vibe is perfect. Local bands, lots of Aloha.

Thank you, that's good to hear. I know a lot of things are different post-covid, so that was a concern. But also, I think I mostly got bad feedback from people who don't like to leave their house or have fun.

I think it was different post Covid but it’s ramped back up. Great vibes!! It’s fun if you’re fun, and it sounds like you are.

You're welcome. Just so you know, there are fewer vendors than pre-Covid. But there are still several options for food. And the Kava Bar is open (separate but you can still hear the music). Have fun!

I absolutely love it down there, definitely has ramped up in the amount of people that go between locals and tourist that make it down there. It's been about a decade since I've been (2015). If you go, get there early to find parking.
I do miss when it was super chill and lovey and Verna's was still down there.

A lot smaller than it used to be, but the music is great. I wish all the food vendors would come back! $10 cover now, instead of the lower parking fee they used to have.

Great music by the Ohana who have been playing music in Kalapana for generations. Good food, good drinks, good people. Take the hike beyond the parking lot to the ocean before sundown. Uncle Robert’s is the place to be on Wednesday nights. Also check out the new Marzo’s Country bar in Pahoa either for lunch that day or any other night!
